Chicago, it's not too late for an Iraq War vet parade
2012-02-04 17:40:00
Since I wrote my “letter” to Mayor Rahm  (below) about an Iraq War Vet Parade, on December 28, 2011, St. Louis has held a parade for Iraq War Vets, and supposedly nineteen other cities are thinking of having a parade, including Chicago, according to MSNBC. Also, since I wrote Mayor Rahm has okayed restarting the... Read more »

The upcoming US-Israeli war maneuvers are being touted by both governments as the world's biggest ever! And certain transglobal warmongering chaos-creators actually seem happy over this dramatic turn of events which the US government in collusion with most of Congress and the business and weapons industries will soon remind us of the heady days when Dubs Bush lied us into war in Iraq and his case turned out to hinge on the credibility of Colin Powell's U.N. presentation. And on Americans wanting to believe in their president's motives in spite of all evidence not supporting our trust. So who do you think will play the 'Colin Powell-respected military leader' role in 2012 as Washington stirs itself into a tizzy over Iran's intentions (so they say) and imagines it has convinced the American people of some very deluded, fevered visions of the 1% Gang who are apparently "riding again" and wanting to force We the People into yet another Vulcan hellishness of an illegal, vulgar war--a...

CNN, Fox and all the other mainstream media channels have announced and confirmed that the war in Iraq is officially over. The war began in 2003 and now it has finally come to an end, it is almost hard to believe, but at the same time it is about time. Thank you Barack Obama for (Read More...)

Dec 18, 2011: Brief Astro-Notes on US Iraq War Withdrawalby Jude CowellHow Maliki and Iran Outsmarted US Troop Withdrawal peeks underneath our military tent but with little face-saving as we clear out as per Iran's instructions, some are saying. As the last of US troops arrived in Kuwait this morning "around daybreak" after a necessarily secretive journey under cover of night, transit Saturn 27Lib17 was in 10th house (World Stage) and heading toward local Midheaven (MC 10Lib22) but America's natal Saturn 14Lib48 arrived at MC first. Will the US troop withdrawal be seen by the world as a "fall from grace", the most karmic of implications for any 10th H Saturn? (ex: Richard Nixon was born with Saturn in 10th H.) As part of the process, I should imagine, especially after the interminable 8-year reign of Wussy Bush and Shotgun Cheney with their imperilist dreams of global conquest.(For like most bullies, they don't go to much physical effort themselves, y'know, since they can bribe, i...
'Your Moment of Zen': End of Iraq War flag ceremony (Jon Stewart video)
2011-12-16 21:55:00
So many mixed feelings sweep over me as I watch the flag ceremony. You know? Never wanted either war, Afghanistan or Iraq, knew they'd be Vietnam-esque and they are of the quagmire variety of collective experiences...brutal and soul-shattering.And so our national soul is soiled once again and the stains are deep. 'Old men start wars for young men to fight' is as true a maxim today as it was whenever someone first strung the words together and said, Hmmph!Happily, it is with this post that I again have a chance to say, Welcome Home, US Soldiers! I'm very glad you've come ashore and I wish you all safe passages to calmer waters! Bless you and your families, JudeNow that things are shifting like the desert sands of Iraq, it is my personal opinion that George Bush, Dick Cheney, and other crony war profiteers of a globalist persuasion owe the American people a very large amount of money for starting two wars and to somewhat make amends for their vast mismanagement of our public fund...

PTSD raises heart disease risk in Iraq war vets
2009-08-05 18:10:00
Veterans who come home from Iraq and Afghanistan with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health diagnoses are hit with a double whammy: They also have greater risk factors for heart disease, according to a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association. PTSD related to military service has been linked to heart disease in the past, but, to the authors? knowledge, the present study is the first to examine the association for veterans of the current Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Given the time frame of the recent wars, the authors of the study did not look at heart attacks or other events, but examined risk factors for heart disease instead. PTSD and other mental disorders, such anxiety disorder, more than doubled the risk of tobacco use, for example, which is a well-known risk factor.
An Overdue Iraq War Post
2009-06-09 23:13:00
(And I also posted here.)Sorry I haven?t had anything to say on this for a little while, but as noted here? The House is about to vote on another supplemental spending bill for continued and escalated wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (without any exit strategy for Afghanistan whatsoever -- having refused to include that amendment).?Here are three reasons to join with the peace movement in asking your representative to vote No: This bill funds illegal and immoral wars; it funds the IMF; and it bans the release of torture photos and videos from the Bush-Cheney years. The third item pertains to the so-called Lieberman-Graham Amendment, which, I?m happy to note here, has been dropped from the supplemental (oops, not so fast ? definitely not a shining moment for Obama based on this).Update: Tee, hee, hee...I just checked Patrick Murphy?s web site, and at the moment there is no indication of how he will vote, but I?m inclined to believe that he will support the supplemental based on prior votes...

ABTFO: End of Iraq War Now Has a Date
2009-02-27 19:11:00
President Obama announced a definitive end to the Iraqi combat troops--19 months out. The catch? Residual troop presence--non-combat troops--will still be a whopping 50,000. Am I thrilled? Yes. To have any progress at all and a clear deadline is a good thing. Is it exactly what I was hoping? More immediate withdrawal, small troop presence? Nope. I'll take what I can get, though.Don't forget the Cost of War (CostofWar.com). $600 Billion U.S. so far. $341 Million a day. Not that on August 31, 2010, U.S. cost will be zero. But the difference between 50K troops and 160K troops is a major reduction in cost. And, at hem, human life cost, which cannot be quantified. Here's what it looks like in part:American Military Casualties?4,252 (from AntiWar.com)American Military Injured?31,089 (from AntiWar.com)Iraqi Civilian Casualties?90,000 to 99,000 (estimate from IraqBodyCount.org)Another Beautiful Thing From Obama (ABFTO): his promise to end the war against Iraq kept. Imperfectly, but kept.

Latest Weapon Against US Troops In Iraq
2008-11-18 04:02:00
Armor-piercing grenades, Russian-made.It's interesting that I have never even heard of this weapon before. It looks like a bottle rocket or a gigantic Molotov cocktail. After you throw it, it opens a parachute so it can land in the right direction for it detonate properly and detonate its armor-piercing weaponry. This weapon has killed a number of US troops this year.It is typically thrown from crowds in Baghdad, and it is almost impossible to figure out who threw it. There is considerable blowback from the weapon, which is often tossed at short distance, so in the video you can see the throwers running away as soon as they throw the thing. It's interesting that this is first I have heard of this weapon.Al Qaeda in Iraq is reportedly utilizing this weapon a lot. The news segment on the video highlights the Dora District in South Baghdad, which is sadly still an Iraqi Al Qaeda battleground. I thought we had cleaned this shits out of there. There has been some horrific abuse and ethn...
VIDEO: Danse Macabre! Il Funerale di Saddam
2008-11-17 23:10:00
This is an Italian translation of my post, Video of Saddam's Funeral. Translator: Paolo from Trieste. Enjoy.
Saddam Da Morto
2008-11-17 19:29:00
Updated November 18. This is an Italian translation of my post about the famous video of Saddam's body in a casket after he was hanged. It was secretly filmed by 2 Shia mortuary workers and then placed on the Internet, where it caused a stir. Translator: Paolo from Trieste. Charles Krauthhammer Wrong On Obama Again. Forgot About Iraq War
2008-09-12 23:27:00
In his latest column, conservative columnist Charles Krauthhammer writes that Senator Barack Obama's rise was not based on any policy position but on this... Obama's meteoric rise was based not on issues -- there was not a dime's worth of difference between him and Hillary on issues -- but on narrative, on eloquence, on charisma. Charles, I'm chuckling.  You forgot that the many issue Barack Obama gained notice for was his opposition to the war in Iraq.   If you need a reminder, here's a 2002 interview on the war on Iraq: In fact, Obama, who was then in the Illinois Legislature, showed a great grasp of the issues surrounding the Iraq War at that time.
Bush declares significant progress in Iraq war
2008-07-31 17:36:00
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush declared progress in the Iraq war Thursday, saying terrorists “are on the run” and a generally improved security environment should permit further U.S. troop reductions. Standing on the Colonnade outside the Oval Office of the White House, Bush also announced that effective Thursday, the duration of troop tours in Iraq will be cut from 15 months to 12 months. Bush said this reduction “will relieve the burden on our forces and it will make life easier for our wonderful military families.” “The progress is still reversible,” Bush acknowledged. But he added, “There now appears to be a degree of durability in gains.” Full Story Here: Bush declares significant progress in Iraq war You can’t deny it, Iraq has shown great improvement, and it’s about time too. We have put in a lot of time, money, effort and, not to forget, many American lives to make this happen. I never made any secret of the fact ...
Iraq War: If The Surge Is Working, Bring The Troops Home!
2008-06-24 13:39:00
I just ran over this Washington Post article which reports that the "surge" is working, but the Bush Administration does not have a plan for the period after the surge. It's as if they were expecting to just keep the troops there, lending credence to Senator John McCain's view that we're going to be i n Iraq for 100 years. I can only hope we get Senator Obama into the White House as President. While Iraq forces may not be able to act independently of American forces, perhaps they would be left with no choice if we took the lion's share of the troops out.

Leaked: U.S. Plans To Keep 50 Bases In Iraq

By now it’s pretty clear that the U.S. government is incapable of keeping secrets. So not surprisingly, our plans for future involvement in Iraq have been leaked. U.S. Government Remains on Sidelines as 111 Countries Agree to a New Global
2008-06-04 20:35:00
The United Nations reports "New global ban on cluster bombs will save millions of young lives".Unfortunately the United States of America is not one of the 111 countries agreeing to ban a weapon that has long been a civilian killer.Forgein Policy in Focus calls the decisin by the U.S. government a "A Cluster of Fallacies". Read the article to see the reasons that our government officials offer. It is beyond discouraging.Children in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Laos, and Iraq are still seeing the destruction that these horrible weapons cause. Many of these explosives remain on the ground--having not yet detonated. A child, playing in the field, runs near one, and--BOOM--there goes a limb, or a life.

Bush insider re-confirms the existance of the Iraq war propaganda machine.
2008-06-03 00:00:00
Scotty McClellan, Bush's ex-press secretary has a new book out where he reveals some pretty big bombshells from his days working next to Bush, the absolute biggest that Bush authorized the leaks against Valerie Plame: It's pretty clear that Bush has committed treason by declassifying information that exposed a CIA operative. Of course McClellan was part of the press propaganda machine that led up to the war, wrapping the American flag around the invasion effort. Contributing to the hysteria was corporate mainstream media, the so-called "liberal media" you always hear about. Well, we now have former MSNBC reporter, Jessica Yellin, revealing the pressure she received from senior producers to make her stories more palatable to the war effort: She clarifies these remarks on her blog: First, this involved my time on MSNBC where I worked during the lead up to war. I worked as a segment producer, overnight anchor, field reporter, and briefly covered the White House, the Pentagon...

A Night on the Town Ends with Respect
2008-05-29 21:01:00
I went down to Water Street with my cousin last night, and we made our way to a few popular spots. At our last stop I ran into an old friend who I used to play basketball with during our younger days. My friend has recently returned from a 14 month tour in Iraq. Now, granted, there is much we don't agree on politically. However, we were able to sit down and have a wonderful conversation on topics all across the spectrum. He was interested in the time I spent in Thailand; I was interested in the time he spent in Iraq. We shared stories and, by the end of the night, exchanged numbers. And when we shook hands to go our separate ways, I felt an overwhelming sense of respect for my friend. This is why--in the end--America is the greatest country in the world: friends (and enemies) can engage in discussions and debates on any topic under the sun.I am glad when those discussions can be respectfully meaningful, and I look forward to seeing my friend again soon.
McMore of the Same Votes 100% with Bush in 2008
2008-05-28 06:27:00
When John McCain started preparing himself to run for president in 2008, he knew his votes in the senate would be very important. According to the Congressional Quarterly, when John McCain bothered to show up to vote in the senate, he voted with President Bush 100 percent of the time. CQ determines which pieces of legislation fit with the president?s goals and other literature to determine where the president would stand on the bill. John McCain was voted the most absent senator in 2008, but when he did bother to show up, he voted with the president 100 percent. Granted McCain was campaigning during 2008, but there were many other senators also campaigning for president. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joseph Biden, and Christopher Dodd were all serving in the senate while running for president but did not miss as many votes as McCain did. McCain lost his status as a ?maverick? Republican in the senate when he took his firm position along side President ...

Iraq War–Six Trillion Dollar Bush Gift To World!
2008-05-26 09:00:00
The Bush initiated invasion of Iraq has been a major factor that has trebled the price of oil, according to a leading expert, costing the world a staggering $6 trillion in higher energy prices alone. Dr. mamlouh Salameh, an adviser to such organizations as the World Bank and tue UN Industrial Development Organization, told the British newspaper, The Independent, he estimates without the war in Iraq, the price oil would now be no more than $40 a barrel. Goldman Sachs predicted recently the price of oil might possibly rise to over $200 a barrel which means the era of inexpensive oil is now over. Dr. Slameh, told a parliamentary group last week that three years prior to the war in Iraq being launched, Saddam Hussein had offered the United States a deal that would have opened up 10 new giant oil fields on “generous terms” in return for lifting the sanctions against his country. Dr. Salameh believes the American government had a different view which entailed occupying Iraq a...
