BELFAST (Reuters) - Two bombs planted by militant Irish nationalists, including one packed with enough explosives to have killed anyone within a 50-metre (yard) radius, were defused in Northern Ireland on Saturday, police said. The 600-pound (270-kg) bomb, roughly the same size as one used to kill 29 people in the town of Omagh in the single deadliest attack of Northern Ireland's three decades of violence in 1998, was left in an abandoned vehicle in the town of Newry. ...

Never Mistake Intelligence for a Bull Market: George Ireland
2012-04-10 02:00:00
The Gold Report: Your grandfather was a mining engineer. Your father founded a coal company. You are a geologist, worked with Cliffs and ASARCO and are on the boards of several mining companies. How much of your success at Geologic Resource Partners do you attribute to your business acumen and how much to your relationships in the industry? George Ireland: Having grown up in a mining-oriented family, the dinner table conversations from an early age steeped me in the lore and intrigue of business. Based on that early interest, I have built up quite a book of relationships and a broad knowledge over the years, but I attribute a lot of the opportunities that have come my way to . . . → Read More: Never Mistake Intelligence for a Bull Market: George Ireland

So, Ireland is at peace Bertie…Bollocks!

Another reason why you did nothing for the hundreds of thousands of pounds for ‘yourself’. Yes Bertie, you were paid to do nothing and you excelled at it!============================-============================Is- this the peace that you were bladdering about in the USA when you addressed the Joint Houses of Congress? Did you know Bertie that while you were being accoladed by those who, like yourself, are totally divorced from reality, that there were decent people terrified in their own homes in this ‘great country of Ireland’ because YOU and your inept government have abandoned them? You would better serve your country Bertie if you had stayed at home and tended to the mess that is now Ireland. Is this the ‘peace’ that you were talking about? From Sunday Independent Gangs turn ordinary lives into a living hell How can you expect a child to go to school when his mother is to scared to cross the road to go to Mass, asks Jim Cusack By Jim Cusack Sunday May 04 2008...
A greedy Ireland
2010-11-02 20:09:00
It is the 3rd of August 2007 and in Ireland it still raining! Where is the nearest mental home??? I want to see the men in the white coats! The biggest event of the Irish summer season is the Galway Races. This is where the wealth and the power in Ireland is congregated, for a full week, into the various commercial marquees, to talk and work the floor, in a classic networking emporium that suits the Irish business psyche the best. The politicians will mix with shakers and movers and every conversation will have a motive for taking place. There is drink and food in abundance, the opportunity to meet anybody who is anybody, and deals will be done in a haze of alcohol and gambling, probably to be regretted when the implications are realized back at the office a week later. The Galway Races are, however, still a wonderful mix of the sophisticated socialites and the rural dwellers and farmers, young and old, who are there for the craic which in this case means drink, gambling and sex, not n...
Notre Dame to play the U.S. Naval Academy....in Ireland
2010-09-22 10:12:00
Not exactly a home game for either squad, but it seems like Notre Dame and Navy will facing off in Dublin's brand new Aviva stadium come 2012. Apparently the University is more serious about its ties to the Irish than mascots of stereotypes and color schemes, because 50,000 seats in recession-ravaged Ireland to play American football and televising it live to the States doesn't necessarily seem more lucrative than the average Notre Dame game. At least Navy will play something that heavily resembles rugby for the local audience. One of the not so fun parts of Justin's wedding was our friend Brittny--a resident of the nation--relaying to us the horror stories of Ireland's economic collapse. So maybe it would be nice to do something to stimulate the Irish economy, even it's a one-time event that will nothing to address their systemic issues.

Steve Kmetko, image by Getty Images via Daylife By BOB ANDELMAN We all want to be part of a community. A place where we belong, a place where people are like us?and like us. In the online world, of course, nobody can see what color you are, what sex you are, how old you are, or smell whether you?ve taken a bath in the last week. And yet we still migrate to places where there are people like us. That?s what Steve Kmetko and the founders of a new online site, MyQmunity.com are hoping. They just launched the first local version of MyQmunity here in the Tampa Bay area and plan to take it nationwide in the months ahead. Kmetko, the long-time E! Oh, I almost forgot: MyQmunity.com is an online resource connecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community to local events. And why is Kmetko here to promote it? Newsflash: he?s ...

Ireland Acts On Clergy Sexual Abuse. India Does Not Act On Sathya Sai Baba
2009-11-27 00:37:00
My readers may well have a keen sense of déjà vu as they read the piece on Ireland. Inescapably one thinks of Sathya Sai Baba, his key officials in the international Sathya Sai Organization and successive local, state and central governments in India. All have have profoundly covered up in regard to both allegations of Sai Baba's (and some of his servitors') longtime, serial sexual abuse of boys and young men, and many other gravely serious wrongdoings. Ireland's Justice Minister, Dermot Ahern, appears determined to act strongly. The Guardian reports, "Ahern said there should be no hiding place for the abusers even if they wore a clerical collar. "The persons who committed these dreadful crimes ? no matter when they happened ? will continue to be pursued" "Even if they wore a clerical collar"?!
