Notre Dame to play the U.S. Naval Academy....in Ireland
2010-09-22 10:12:00 Not exactly a home game for either squad, but it seems like Notre Dame and Navy will facing off in Dublin's brand new Aviva stadium come 2012. Apparently the University is more serious about its ties to the Irish than mascots of stereotypes and color schemes, because 50,000 seats in recession-ravaged Ireland to play American football and televising it live to the States doesn't necessarily seem more lucrative than the average Notre Dame game. At least Navy will play something that heavily resembles rugby for the local audience. One of the not so fun parts of Justin's wedding was our friend Brittny--a resident of the nation--relaying to us the horror stories of Ireland's economic collapse. So maybe it would be nice to do something to stimulate the Irish economy, even it's a one-time event that will nothing to address their systemic issues.

2010-04-24 16:57:00 Steve Kmetko, image by Getty Images via Daylife By BOB ANDELMAN We all want to be part of a community. A place where we belong, a place where people are like us?and like us. In the online world, of course, nobody can see what color you are, what sex you are, how old you are, or smell whether you?ve taken a bath in the last week. And yet we still migrate to places where there are people like us. That?s what Steve Kmetko and the founders of a new online site, MyQmunity.com are hoping. They just launched the first local version of MyQmunity here in the Tampa Bay area and plan to take it nationwide in the months ahead. Kmetko, the long-time E! Channel news anchor, is the public face of MyQmunity.com, but he?s hardly alone. Joining us will also be the creator of the site, Mariruth Kennedy. Oh, I almost forgot: MyQmunity.com is an online resource connecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community to local events. And why is Kmetko here to promote it? Newsflash: he?s ...

Ireland Acts On Clergy Sexual Abuse. India Does Not Act On Sathya Sai Baba
2009-11-27 00:37:00 My readers may well have a keen sense of déjà vu as they read the piece on Ireland. Inescapably one thinks of Sathya Sai Baba, his key officials in the international Sathya Sai Organization and successive local, state and central governments in India. All have have profoundly covered up in regard to both allegations of Sai Baba's (and some of his servitors') longtime, serial sexual abuse of boys and young men, and many other gravely serious wrongdoings. Ireland's Justice Minister, Dermot Ahern, appears determined to act strongly. The Guardian reports, "Ahern said there should be no hiding place for the abusers even if they wore a clerical collar. "The persons who committed these dreadful crimes ? no matter when they happened ? will continue to be pursued" "Even if they wore a clerical collar"?!

A 'new' look at Ireland
2009-03-10 05:00:00 "No country’s stock market has fallen further during the global meltdown" says Carl Delfeld (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2924 ), referring to Ireland. Yet, in Chartwell ETF Advisor (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2924 ), he sees potential in New Ireland Fund (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/in his Chartwell ETF Advisor.irl) (NYSE: IRL (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/in his Chartwell ETF Advisor.irl))."Without question, Ireland has lost its magic; the New Ireland fund has fallen from over $20 to close yesterday at $3.30. Ireland’s real estate bubble was and is perhaps the worst in the world and has greatly impacted its banking system."Ireland's largest bank and the second largest holding in the New Ireland Fund, Allied Irish Banks PLC, reported a 57% fall in its net 2008 profits as its written-off debts soared amid crumbling property markets in Ireland and neighboring Britain. New Ireland (IRL): Luck of the Irish
2008-12-09 06:00:00 Fund specialist Richard Lehmann (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2628 ) selects an Ireland-focused position -- IRL (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=irl)) -- for his recent global spotlight. Here's the latest from The ETF Investor (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2628 )."The decline in stock markets is truly global and correlates with a global economic slowdown. "While China predicts its growth will slow to near 8%, it is a big drop from the 12% annual rate. Markets may be over reacting to the perceived slowdown, but there is no doubt economies will do less well than anticipated last year."Part of the market decline is the de-leveraging of many large funds that have to sell to repay short-term borrowing. Our investment stance at this point is to avoid loss rather than to seek gains."The best international candidate is the New Ireland Fund. The Irish economy has experienced a miracle in growth over the last few years engendered...

Regen, Regen, Regen
Techn...

Luck of the Irish: New Ireland (IRL)
2008-07-18 01:00:00 "Ireland is attracting global value hunters," says fund expert Carl Delfeld (http://www.chartwelletfadvisor-.com/), of Chartwell ETF Advisor (http://www.chartwelletfadvisor-.com/), who takes a contrarian look at the closed-end New Ireland Fund (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=irl) (NYSE: IRL (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=irl))."My ETF pick for the week is in honor of John Templeton not just because of his meeting his final summons this week at age 95 but because it highlights one of the key tenets of his legendary investment career."Templeton's first maxim was to buy at the point of 'maximum pessimism'. IRL trades at a 15% discount to net asset value."Ireland has gone from darling to outcast in less than a year in the eyes of the global investment community.
