And then I hear a funny noise in the back...Oops, punctured tyre.. No problem I have done this before... A Smart does not come with a spare tyre, but with a handy electric pump. I park on the emergency lane. 30 ton truck racing 2 inches past you. You "pump it up" and drive off..Oops... puncture too big.... I barely make it to the next gas station. All flat again. No problem.. I have a can of tyre glue filler (how do you call that stuff?), made for just that. Except that there is no tool to get the valve off the tyre. No way to fit the glue tube onto the tyre.Well, this is a gas station, so I ask the pompista. Nope. "No tools." He points at the gas station at other side of the highway: "Ask there". 2009-05-10 01:00:00 Anja and I changed our plans for the last few days of our trip. We left Tuscany early and head up to Maranello. Maranello is situated in a corridor of towns hosting various sports car manufacturers. This is the home region of Lamborghini, Bugatti and one special firm we paid a visit to: Ferrari. The hotel we checked in to was dirt cheap, really big and next to a warehousing complex for truckers. The hotel interior was covered in pictures and paintings of various sports cars and most of the clients were middle-aged men who were dragging their wives from car factory to car factory to race course in this part of Italy. Despite the industrial-sounding nature of the area, there are some lovely villages, wineries and we found an amazing restaurant were the staff spoke German. After a week of us needing to speak Italian because the various waiters and waitresses couldn't speak anything else, this was like finding water in the dessert. 2009-05-10 01:00:00 We had a 14 hour journey from Tallinn via Copenhagen down to Tuscany in Italy on Monday. The town we eventually stayed in near (and I use this phrase loosely) Siena was really quiet on Monday night and not a lot of shops looked open or inviting. I noticed that everything was a bit expensive as well and I was starting to think that if we wanted a holiday in a small city where no one wanted to speak in English and everything was really pricey then we could have gone to Monaco instead. Things turned around during the week and despite the town being a good 2 to 3 hour drive away from anything of interest, we managed a day out in Pisa and a lovely day at the beach in Principina a Mare. We also managed a 50% success rate in finding restaurants where people could speak anything other than Italian. Anja and I can speak in 7 different languages between us so hats off to the Italians for not being remotely trained in any of these during all their years of schooling. Most restaurants loo...

2009-04-06 05:25:00 My sympathies go out to the victims and families of the Earthquake which occurred in the town of L’Aquila in central Italy early Monday morning. It breaks my heart that so many people died or were injured. The destruction appears to be massive. We in California are not exactly strangers to Earthquakes. I know all to well how devastating these larger quakes can be, even in the most modern of cities. I can only imagine how terrified the people must be who live in that area , but I can certainly understand their hesitation to return to their homes…or whats left of them. I wish there was some way I could help out. I contacted some of my friends who live in Rome, and while they felt the shaking, they report to me that there was no damage in the Rome area and that they are all fine. My friend who works for the Rome marathon, said he felt the vibrations, but fell back asleep and didnt think anything of it until the new morning when he saw people walking in the street...

2008-09-30 23:32:00 Giovanni Hoffer was born in Lecco (Italy)in 1972.In 1991 he took his French horn diploma at Milan?s Conservatoire ?G.Verdi? under the guidance of Master Michele Berrino.He began his career playing with the main italian orchestras, including the Scala Philharmonica, the ?G.Verdi? Symphonic Milan, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, the R.A.I. Orchestra in Milan, the Italian Swiss Confederation Orchestra. He also played in many international tours (Japan, Australia, South America), working with world famous directors like Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, George Pretre, Eliahu Inbal and many more.At the beginning of 2006, after the encounter with Lele Veronesi, he started the Hofferquattro project.
