Gather Your Coupons: General Mills Catalina Deal at Jewel
2009-12-09 04:30:00
Mashup Mom reports that there's a "spend $15, get $5" Catalina deal advertised in tomorrow's Jewel-Osco ad, and it's already active. Looks like frozen vegetables and plenty of other stuff will be completely free, with the help of the GM coupons on Coupons.com right now.
Chicago Grocery Deals -- Not Jewel, Not Dominick's
2009-12-02 22:32:00
Aldi is always a great bargain place to shop, especially if you don't want to bother with coupons, since they don't take them. But this week Aldi is advertising some price cuts that merit notice. I'll also mention a couple deals at other area groceries while we're at it. 1. Canola or Vegetable Oil, 48 oz. $1.99 (wow, it was on sale for $3.99 at Jewel and I listed THAT as a deal)
Thanksgiving Week Deals at Jewel-Osco
2009-11-19 07:27:00
Jewel-Osco has lots of the regular Thanksgiving goodies on sale this week, as well as some non-turkey-day-related groceries. Here are the best sales and deals, along with coupon match-ups.
Jewel Catalina Deal: All This for About $4
2009-11-05 21:19:00
I slipped out to run a few errands including, of course, Jewel General Mills Catalina runs. I didn't find everything I wanted in stock, but I did end up getting 10 cans of soup, 3 boxes of Kleenex, 16 rolls of paper towels, 5 pounds of flour and two cans of frosting for about $4.
Jewel General Mills Catalina Deal: New Sale Prices, Scenarios and Coupons
2009-11-04 22:19:00
Thanks to the folks on Couponers Wanted, you can read the whole list of every single item included in the "buy $30, get $15 coupons" Catalina deal at Jewel-Osco right now. However, that list doesn't tell you the sale and Preferred Card prices for those items, which you need to put together transaction scenarios. Lucky for you, I did a little research today. First, I got the Jewel Wednesday insert, which has a full page of new Preferred prices for this deal on the back (which are supposed to start tomorrow but my Jewel had a lot of these sales already running today). Then, I stopped into my local store to look for some of the pre-card prices. Here are the ad items, with preferred prices, with pre-card price and coupon match if I have it. Note that some of the pre-card prices I saw on the tag myself, some are from the ad and some gathered elsewhere online; none are guaranteed so watch how they ring up.
Ice Cream Moneymaker at Jewel
2009-10-31 03:19:00
I just read on Mashup Mom that if you buy 6 cartons of Breyer's ice cream at Jewel right now, you'll get three $5 Catalinas. Because there's a "buy 1, get 2 free" sale going on, those 6 cartons will only cost you $12-$13. Moneymaker! There's also a $.75/1 coupon in the 10/18 RedPlum.
Jewel Deals and Coupon Match-Ups 10/22-10/26
2009-10-22 05:00:00
First off, it turns out the expected ConAgra Catalina deal has been cancelled. Can you believe that? Do these guys think they can just stop paying us to buy groceries? This is being reported on the forum CouponersWanted. It's funny because the whole back page of today's flyer is obviously set up for a Catalina deal -- it's almost all ConAgra products in shaded boxes, except there is no actual Catalina offer telling you how much you are supposed to buy. THURS-SATURDAY ONLY boneless skinless chicken breasts $1.88/lb. tomatoes on the vine $1.29/lb. Ritz crackers or Saltines 11-16 oz. $2 (buy 10, use five $1/2 printables if you have access to more than one computer, and get $10 back from the...
All This for $7.50 at Jewel-Osco
2009-10-09 22:30:00

Grocery Deals at Jewel for the Week of Oct. 8
2009-10-07 17:35:00
See the regular grocery sales below, but first I want to tell you about this special deal Jewel has going on this week. It's a "spend $10, save $3 instantly deal" for a whole mess of stuff. Some of these things end up at a ho-hum price (like a 4-pack of Angel Soft toilet paper for $1.75, when I've seen it plenty of times for $1) but some look like stock up prices indeed. Here are the best items I see in this grocery deal, with coupon matchups. All the prices are assuming that you spend $10 and get the $3 instant savings: 70 cents: Duncan Hines cake or brownie mix, 10-pack Playtex disposable globes 70 cents (there is a $1/1 Q on Coupons.com specifically for...
Jewel-Osco Grocery Deals -- 9/24-9/30
2009-09-23 23:39:00
Aside from the Kellogg's $1.50 each deal, Jewel looks kinda humdrum this week to me. Maybe that's just because my stockpile is now so full that I don't need much. Thursday-Saturday only Dannon yogurt cups 48 cents (use $1/10 from 9/13 SmartSource to get 10 for 38 cents each) Jewel canned tomatoes or vegetables 58 cents large hass avocados 88 cents 2 Liter of 7-Up, Dr. Pepper, A&W or Squirt 89 cents All week beef roast or pork loin $1.99/lb. pork chops $1.49/lb. Lean Cuisine Cafe Classics, Spa Cuisine, Casual Eating Classics or Paninis $1.88 (use $1/2 from 9/13 RedPlum, $2/3 from Sept. All You magazine, or $1/3 from June All You) Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Pints $3 (not sure if...
Last Chance for Kellogg's Fuel for School Rebate Moneymakers at Jewel
2009-09-23 22:21:00
The only big deal that stands out this week at Jewel is a new Kellogg's promo: Buy 10 of selected items (mix and match) and you get them for $1.50 each. Remember that Fuel for School Rebate, where you buy 10 Kellogg's products and they send you a $10 check? Well, it ends Sept. 30, i.e., the end of this shopping week. So if you haven't done it yet, now's the time. Buy 10 of these items at $1.50 each, pay $15, and get a $10 rebate check. Better yet, use coupons to bring the 10 items down to a buck each and it's all free after rebate. Better better yet, use coupons to bring them down to 50...

Jewel 9/17-9/23: Make Money Buying Campbell's Soup
2009-09-16 16:54:00
I'll post the rest of the Jewel deals later, but first here's a word about this week's Campbell's Catalina deal. (If you don't know what a Catalina is, read this post.) Have you noticed that Campbell's has been discounting its products all over the place lately? This $1/2 cooking soups printable coupon will really come in handy at Jewel this week, especially if you have access to multiple computers and can print a lot of copies, because there's a Campbell's Catalina deal going: Spend $15, get $5. Products include Cambell's tomato or chicken noodle @ 50 cents (w/out card 20/$15), Goldfish crackers 6.8-8 oz. @ $1.25, 2 oz. Jewel Sued for Motorized Shopping Cart Crash
2009-09-10 22:55:00
A woman filed a lawsuit today against a supermarket for injuries she says she sustained after being struck by a motorized shopping cart. Plaintiff Raquel Goffin asserts that, while she was in the TCF bank area located within the Jewel food store on North Narragansett in Chicago, she was "struck in her back by a Jewel customer operating a motorized shopping cart." Goffin alleges, among other things, that Jewel Food Stores "failed to warn the Plaintiff of the dangerous condition of the area which allowed persons to operate motorized shopping carts in the TCF counter area thereby causing a danger to the TCF customer." Goffin is suing Jewel Food Stores, Supervalue and TCF. Read the complaint after the jump....
Jewel Deals Sept. 10-Sept. 16
2009-09-10 06:15:00
Whew! Anyone else relieved that there is NOT a new Catalina deal advertised in this week's Jewel flyer? I'm just trying to squeeze in a last couple moneymaking Green Giant vegetables transactions today and then I'm ready for a break! I will also hurry up and buy corn on the cob tonight before it goes from 5/$1 to 3/$1 tomorrow. Thurs-Sat Only pork chops 99 cents/lb. peaches or nectarines 99 cents/lb. Jewel apple juice 64 oz. 99 cents All Week seedless grapes 78 cents/lb. onions $1/lb. russet potatoes $2.50/5 lbs. Free Cocoa Puffs at Jewel with Catalina and Coupon
2009-09-08 21:44:00
If you sign up for the (surely riveting) newsletter from Pillsbury.com, you can print a bunch of coupons inlcuding $1/1 Cocoa Puffs. If you can print five copies of this coupon (two per computer are allowed), you should be able to get five boxes free with the "spend $20, get $5" Catalina deal at Jewel through tomorrow. Transaction idea: 5 boxes Cocoa Puffs ($4.45 pre-card price x 5 = $22.25, $2 card price x 5 = $10) - five $1/1 coupons (if you have access to multiple computers) -------------------------------------------------------- pay $5, get $5 Catalina coupon back = free! Thanks to The Frugal Girls for the tip that Pillsbury.com has coupons! Other coupons on that site that can be used for the Catalina deal include $1/2...
General Mills Catalina at Jewel -- There Is an Overlap
2009-09-08 21:12:00
Two mildly exciting pieces of news about the "spend $20, get $5" Catalina deal running on certain General Mills products at Jewel-Osco right now: 1. There is some other Catalina overlapping it, because in addition to my $5 coupon, I got two $1 coupons today (all good on anything you want to use it on). I don't know what triggered it, but my purchase consisted of Progresso soup, Grands and Green Giant boxed vegetables. 2. There are $1/1 Pillsbury rolls coupons on some cans of Progresso soup, which make the Grands only 25 cents each. I found just one can today with the coupon, but then I also noticed I had one sitting in my coupon file from the last...
A Quickie: CVS and Jewel Transactions
2009-09-05 06:57:00
Tonight I was only going to stop by CVS -- and that only because I had one of those free chocolate coupons that was expiring today. (They've been giving them out every Friday, but only untli 11:59 p.m. EASTERN TIME, so too bad I just thought about it now at 11:26 p.m. Central.) But then at 8:30 I started making zucchini bread as our breakfast for tomorrow's block party. And then I noticed that the hubs had used up the eggs this morning cooking breakfast. The nerve, eh? Cooking breakfast for all of us while I lay there, unsuspecting, in bed. So off to CVS and Jewel I went, with the baby in the Bjorn and pushing a stroller only...
Two Transaction Ideas for Jewel Catalinas
2009-09-04 05:48:00
I finally got the time to sit down with my alarmingly thick folder of coupons and work out a couple Catalina transactions for Jewel. Here are two I will try tomorrow if I get the chance, and hopefully I will leave the store with many bags of groceries for under $4 (after rebate): 1. Kellogg's Transaction That Will Qualify for Fuel for School $10 rebate 2 boxes Pecan Sandies ? pre-card price, $6 with card 2 boxes Fudge Shop cookies ? pre-card, $5 with card 4 boxes Special K Crackers ? pre-card, $12 with card 2 Morningstar products $9.34 pre-card, $7.34 with card --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- pre-card price = def. over $25, out of pocket $30.34 MINUS COUPONS    -     &-nbsp;    &n-bsp;    &nb-sp;    &nbs-p;     -;     - -  1.00 $1/2 cookies from...
Jewel-Osco Deals for 9/3-9/9
2009-09-03 05:06:00
Coupons: The Jewel flyer is new and different this week -- it has a bunch of manufacturer's coupons printed on the back page. These should be usable ANYWHERE, not just Jewel; however they are only good for the one week so they are not as valuable as the ones you get in the paper. The $2/2 Miracle Whip and $2/2 Oscar Mayer Meat Wieners are particularly good for using at Dominick's this week -- Dom's has Miracle Whip for $1.99 with in-store coupon with a limit of 2, so if you stack it with this manufacturer's coupon, you should get it for $1 a bottle. And since most of the Oscar Mayer Qs out there are for $1/2, you'd be better off using this...
Forget a price war: Jewel and Dominick's could make money by just comi
2009-09-02 00:23:00
As local grocery store chains lower prices in an effort to lure more shoppers, many South Side residents spend billions of dollars elsewhere because their communities lack sufficient retail outlets as Natalie Moore of Chicago Public Radio explains. In The Chicago Reporter's new cover investigation, Kelly Virella documents how race and gentrification may drive the decisions retailers make when locating new grocery stores....

Jewel Paper Goods Catalina: Coupons Inside Diaper Boxes
2009-08-25 07:18:00
I did the "spend $20, get $5" Catalina at Jewel tonight, buying one Big Box of Huggies for $18.99 and one box of Kleenex for $1.49. After my $3/1 Huggies coupon (it said Natural Care on it but works for any Huggies) and the $5 coupon that printed out for my next order, I paid $12.48, which is pretty darn good for that many diapers and a box of Kleenex.  Some of the Huggies boxes are marked with a sticker saying "$20 worth of coupons inside." You definitely want to select one of these boxes. The coupon book inside includes a $1/1 for Huggies wipes, which would bring the price of a box of Huggies wipes at Walgreens down to...

About an hour later, Dr. BadVibes, Berserko, Turbo Tu-Tone, Rock Krusher, Buttons McBoomBoom, Nightshade, and Squeeky Kleen came back, dressed from top to bottom with the most intimidating attire Big Boss has ever seen. The boss is impressed.Big Boss: ?Great job on makin? all those get-ups, boys.?Berserko: ?Gee thanks, Uncle Big Boss. I knew you?ll like ?em?Big Boss: ?(mahh) But there?s only one thing wrong with them.?Krusher: ?Yeah? What?s that??Big Boss: ?(mahh) Why are there price tags hangin? from the sleaves of your gangsta suits??Squeeky: ?Sorry, Big Boss but the sewing machine broke down and I have make due with these Roaring Twenties costumes we stole from Show Stop Costumes.Big Boss: ?Why didn?t you fix it??Squeeky: ?I didn?t have time. Jewel-Osco -- Sales 8/20-27
2009-08-20 04:37:00
There are reports out there of a new Con-Agra and Kellogg's Catalina deal -- apparently it started today at Shaw's which is part of the same chain as Jewel, so it may be working at Jewel as well. I haven't seen any advertising or confirmation of that, though, so buy at your own risk. If you try it and it works, though, PLEASE report your results in the comments here. As for the real, published Jewel sales this week, I'm underwhelmed, but maybe I'm just jaded these days. There is a new Catalina offer that could net you some really cheap Huggies diapers -- scroll way down to the bottom of the post for that one. THURS-SAT ONLY Jennie-O...
Jewel-Osco Unilever Catalina: The Final Reckoning
2009-08-13 17:52:00
I spent $10 (+$9.50 tax) on all the groceries in this picture. At full price (not that I ever would have paid that) it's $400 worth of groceries and laundry- detergent (13 bottles!). It's hard to believe, but it's possible for anyone to do this by combining coupons with careful exploitation of a Catalina deal. This Catalina deal is now over, but don't worry, there will be more! To learn how Catalina deals work read my Wise Bread post, "Advanced Grocery Deals: Catalinas."  Here are all the transactions I did: 1. bought 2 packs Klondike bars, 5 boxes Cascadian Farms granola = $32.25 pre-card price paid $16 + tax after Preferred Card and coupons, received $15 Catalinas cost = $1 + 47 cents tax...
Wednesday Flyers -- Jewel Osco 8/13-8/19
2009-08-13 04:23:00
Whew! I'm typing this after my very last run for the Unilver Catalina deal and frankly, I don't want to see the inside of Jewel for a long time. But for those of you without shopping fatigue, here's a rundown of this week's sales: First off, there's a list with pictures of the participating products in the Kraft $25 Free Groceries deal that are on sale this week. Particularly good deals are Mac & Cheese for 49 cents and 8-oz. cheese bricks for $1.69. Items I've noticed coupons for: DiGiorno pizza for one ($2.50) $1/2 6/14 SmartSource; California Pizza Kitchen for one ($2.50) or 12-inch ($6) $1/1 CPK product 5/17 SmartSource and $1/1 CPK pizza printable; Capri Sun ($1.99) -- I...
Last Day of the Unilever Catalina Deal at Jewel-Osco
2009-08-13 03:04:00
You can to do the Unilever Catalina deal through the end of today at Jewel-Osco. Even if you don't have a single coupon, you should really get over there if you haven't already, because you can get free ice cream and pasta sauce without any coupons at all. And since time is so short, you might even want to get bold and do the deal three times in one transaction, which Queen of the Urban Jungle showed was possible. I have done it myself successfully once and failed twice -- both failures due to my inability to keep track of $90 worth of pre-card prices....
I Just Made $7 Buying Shampoo at Jewel-Osco
2009-08-03 22:45:00
So, it worked! I went to Jewel-Osco today and combined the two Catalina deals currently running. I spent $20 on Dove shampoo and conditioner, and the coupon machine printed out a total of $27 in coupons good on ANYTHING I purchase next time I shop at Jewel. Which will likely be VERY soon, like as soon as my kids are in bed tonight, cause I wanna make more money! Here's how I did it: 1. Purchased five bottles Dove shampoo or conditioner, Preferred Card price $4.99, regular price $6.99. 2. Used five $1/1 coupons from the following inserts: 5/17 Redplum and this weekend's 8/2 Redplum. 3. Pre-card total was $35, meeting the requirements of both deals to spend $30 or more. After...

Sunday Sales Flyers, August 2: Double Dip on Jewel Catalinas!
2009-08-02 17:37:00
Today is an EXCELLENT day to pick up extra Sunday papers if you ever do that, because there are FIVE coupon inserts: a special Kellogg's insert, a Procter & Gamble insert, the Redplum (aka Valassis) and two SmartSource inserts. I usually have my husband pick up extra Sunday papers for me if he goes to Menard's, where they sell them for $1 apiece. Street vendors also sell them for less than in stores, but I think they charge $1.25 now or something like that. Also, there are coupons in today's inserts that play into deals running at stores this week. I'm especially pleased to get my hands on that Kellogg's insert, even though the coupons inside are all for $1/2 which...
Jewel Deals This Week: A Catalina and an Instant Savings Deal
2009-07-22 23:22:00
The regular sales at Jewel this week are kind of a yawn, so let's skip straight to the awesome stuff. As far as I know, both these deals run just this week, 7/23-7/29: NEW CATALINA DEAL Products listed are Rice Krispies Treats at $2.50 (regular $3.10), Town House Original or FlipSides crackers $3 ($4.85), Keebler Chips Deluxe or Fudge Shoppe or E.L. Fudge $3 ($4.75), Dr Pepper 2 Liters $1.25 ($1.88), Dr Pepper 12-pack 4/$10, must buy 4 (less than 4, $2.75) The best part about Catalina deals at Jewel is that they usually count the purchase requirement with pre-card prices. The question here is, what is the pre-card price on the Dr Pepper. $2.75? More? I'll check when I...
Grocery Deals at Jewel and Dominick's This Week
2009-07-15 19:25:00
JEWEL-OSCO   First off, there's a good deal going this week if you want to do that $10 Kellogg's rebate as a moneymaker, freebie or close to it (depending on the items you choose and the coupons you have): Selected Kellogg's products are $1.50 this week if you buy 5. The deal includes cereals (ad shows Raisin Bran Crunch, Apple Jacks and Frosted Flakes), which is awesome because if you still have any of those $1/1 coupons from the 6/7 RedPlum, you can get the cereals for 50 cents each, pay $5 out of pocket for 10 boxes and still get the $10 rebate check for a profit of $5.   My deal idea includes both cereals and Pop-Tarts, for which I...
Fuqi (FUQI): Peter Lynch jewel?
2009-07-08 06:00:00
In his Validea newsletter, John Reese assesses Fuqi Int'l (NASDAQ: FUQI), a designer of jewelry in China,on the long-term investment strategy 0f the legendary investor Peter Lynch."The company develops, promotes and sells a range of products in the Chinese luxury goods market. The compay has 69 retail jewelry counters and stores in China."According to the Lynch model, this company would be categorized as a fast grower."The Lynch strategy suggests that investors should examine the P/E (10.82) relative to the growth rate (42.99%), based on the average of the 3, 4 and 5 year historical eps growth rates, for a company. "This is a quick way of determining the fairness of the price. In this particular case, the P/E/G ratio for FUQI (0.25) is very favorable."This methodology favors companies that have several years of fast earnings growth, as these companies have a proven formula for growth that in many cases can continue many more years...

Two More Catalina Deals at Jewel
2009-06-24 23:16:00
I saw the following Catalina deals advertised on CRT slips at Jewel-Osco: "Spend $15 on Heinz products, get $5" coupon. Runs 6/24-7/11. Products include Heinz ketchup 40 oz.; Ore-Ida Frozen Potatoes 20 oz. or larger; Classico Pasta Sauce 14 oz. or larger; Bagel Bites 7 oz.; TGI Fridays frozen snacks; Weight Watchers Smart Ones frozen products; Boston Market frozen products; Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce (use $1/2 from 5/17 SmartSource or  $1/1 blinkie if you have one); Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce; Heinz 57 sauce. Grocery Deals at Jewel-Osco 6/25-7/1
2009-06-24 23:12:00
There are three new Catalina deals at Jewel this week, which I will post about in a minute. For now, the regular deals. I put the stuff I would actually buy in red:   Buy 5 12-packs Coke or Sprite for $10, get two 14-16 oz. packs Hillshire Farm sausage free (use $1/2 Hillshire smoked sausage from 6/7 RedPlum to get it all for $9)  7-Up, Dr. Pepper and Sunkist, and Pepsi 12-packs are also 5/$10 (but no free sausage) boneless skinless chicken breasts $1.99/lb. whole watermelon $3.99 Ball Park meat or turkey franks $1.67 (use $1/2 from 6/7 RedPlum to get them for $1.17 each) (is it just me or is it scary when the most specific a company...
Smoking Deals at Jewel-Osco Through Tomorrow
2009-06-23 21:47:00
There's been a quiet saga going on in the Jewel-Osco bargain hound commuity this week. It started last Wednesday, when Jewel published a flyer announcing a ConAgra Catalina deal. Unlike past deals, which are usually "spend $25, get $10 off your next order" or if you're lucky, "spend $30, get $15," this deal was advertised as "spend $20, get $10." However, there were tags up in stores advertising it as "spend $25, get $10," so it seemed that the deal as printed in the flyer was a misprint. But I have now confirmed that Jewel switched midweek to honoring the deal as printed, and has changed their Catalina machines to print out coupons when you spend just $20 before Preferred...
