June 2009 US Game Sales Sink 31%
2009-07-19 19:02:00
Gamespot reports that US game sales are down 31% when compared to the same month last year, with Activision’s multi-platform Prototype the lead title for the month. Believe it or not, things got worse in June. According to figures released by NPD this afternoon, overall US retail sales of non-PC game software, hardware, and accessories shrank by 31 percent to $1.17 billion, down from $1.7 billion the prior year. The results, the poorest monthly showing since a dramatic 41 percent drop-off in September 2000, were much worse than the 20 percent decline many gloomy analysts were expecting. “The video games industry realized a significant decline when compared to June 2008, the fourth consecutive month of year-over-year declines,” said NPD analyst Anita Fraizer in a statement. “The first half of the year has been tough largely due to comparisons against a stellar first-half performance last year, but still, this level of decline is certainly going to cause some ...

Flowers closes promising June
2009-07-02 06:02:00
White Sox prospect Tyler Flowers ended the month of June with a .338 batting average, 4 home runs, and a .443 on-base percentage. Flowers was voted to the teams Futures Game at the All-Star Game this month, and is hitting .360 in his last ten games.Flowers' plate discipline combined with his power makes his a candidate to be promoted before the season is over. His 51 walks to just 68 strike outs, along with 11 home runs and 17 extra base hits is extremely impressive for a young prospect like Flowers....

June is over
2009-06-30 14:01:00
The boring June is over! On this very last day of June... instead of finishing strongly, we were unable to close higher and infact mercilessly sold down near closing. This could mean funds already undressed? hahaha STI though was held up by invisible hand... this could be to squeeze index shortists over at the futures market. Broadbase market looks weak and were unable to clear resistance. I choose to square off my long and turn short right here. It has been bugging me for much of the day. All the resistance levels were screaming at me. As i see the falling market, charts after charts, they seems to be ready to plunge down. It is indeed ugly and i do not like the fact it doesn't trade higher today. Lower highs is very obvious and i thought i saw some head and shoulder patterns potentially forming... once those breakout, i think ripe for coming off.Hum ji is tan bo jiak one. No care, i will just short one position and take it from there. Technically, it is a sell signal, t...

Mississippi River - Bassmasters Weekend Series Tournament #2 - June 28, 200
2009-06-30 09:11:00
Yesterday was my 2nd Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament, I was able to get two days of practice in for this event.  It sure would be nice to get some more time so I could expand my water and areas, but there is only so much time.  Based on my practice, I had one really strong area that I felt good about and a couple back up areas, plus some stuff that I had fished in that past that I felt could produce a few bites in a pinch.I drew boat #15 and a heck of a nice co-angler named Sam.  We arrived in my starting area and were the only boat there, I shut down a little short and used the trolling motor to get into position and as we approached I saw a surface swirl.  All ready with my Yellow Magic Popper in hand, I started firing casts towards the area the fish were boiling and they started biting pretty fast and furious.  A mixture of smallies and largemouths were biting, as well as some white bass and a walleye.  Once the topwater fizzled I switched to a ...

Kylie MinogueCrikey is Australian-born Kylie Minogue attractive, despite how annoying her 2002 smash hit ?Can?t Get You out of My Head? was. Though I hadn?t heard of her until seven years ago, Kylie reached fame in Australia in the late ?80s with her role in a soap opera, and then as a singer. Kylie has sold over 60 million records and has a bronze statue in Melbourne, Australia, which is bowed to by horny teenage boys. Some of Kylie?s critics say she is a terrible singer, and that she uses her fame, revealing costumes, and sex symbol-status to cover up her lack of talent. I can?t agree or disagree ? the few times I caught part of the boring and highly unpopular show American Idol I thought singers were good when the panel claimed that they sucked. I do think Kylie?s music sucks though I?m also not her target audience. I was her target audience seven years ago when I considered purchasing a plane ticket to Melbourne, as well as a small rug to protect my knees on the concrete.Kylie wa...

Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)
2009-06-26 19:10:00
Mega popstar Michael Jackson has died after suffering from a suspected heart attack, however the cause of his death is unknown until the results of the autopsy are known. The King of Pop suffered a cardiac arrest at his home, in Holmby Hills, and was taken to the UCLA medical centre, where he was pronounced dead. His family confirmed Michael’s death, at the age of 50, after doctors worked for more than an hour to try to revive him. No matter whether we liked him or not, we have to admit that he was a very talented artist, an excellent composer, dancer and singer. He sold over 750 million records worldwide and won 13 Grammy Awards, I guess. The star is dead, the myth is born.

June Board Meeting
2009-06-23 15:48:00
I'm sure the Board won't be shy about telling us what we should think about this month's Board meeting (Wednesday June 24), but maybe we can take an independent look and make up our own minds. For example, the agenda for the June board meeting includes lots of retirement resolutions - is there anyone who's not getting a resolution, I wonder, or anyone on the two pages of names who is an unexpected or last-minute retirement? There are also several resolutions calling on the PBC to build or modernize several schools.  (Again, let us know if you see anything out of the ordinary.)  I assume these resolutions are entirely nonbinding, but still noteworthy if the PBC listens to the Board....

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING: MAKE IT OR BREAK IT (9PM ABC Family) This Stick It-esque drama about young gymnasts with dreams of the Olympics may mine every teen sports movie trope there is (showbiz mom and dads; catty competition; down-on-her-luck protagonist defies odds and scores huge), but it manages to do so with a naturalness that’s a relief — I don’t I could take another broadly drawn teen drama. Blackhawks may go to the Shore this June
2009-06-22 19:53:00
The biggest lack of depth on the Blackhawks prospects chart appears to be at center. With that as my only compass entering the tangled forest that's called the 2009 National Hockey League mock draft, I choose center Drew Shore as Chicago's first-round draft pick. The Hawks get the frightening chance to agree with me on Friday when the two-day draft begins in Montreal. Shore is an all-American boy from Denver with an altar-boy face that will look perfect next to Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. Shore, 18, has been playing on the U. S. National Team's Development Program and is headed for Denver University. He had 14 goals, 23 assists in 54 games in 2008-09. Since budding pro athletes are now critiqued for how adeptly they crawl out...

Kids Get Into Brookfield Zoo Free: June 29, 30 and July 1

Yesterday we squeezed a couple hours at the Brookfield Zoo in between rainstorms, and I'm happy to report that my family zoo membership has now saved us $102, meaning that it did pay for itself in two visits, as promised. But I'm also happy to report that they'll be letting kids in for free on three days later this month to celebrate the zoo's 75th anniversary.
