Either you fret over every difficulty they have, or worse, they actually lose, and that's just awful beyond comprehension. Perhaps this series with the Royals can serve as a pretty severe counter-example, as the White Sox endured two games--and 24 innings--so grueling, so fraught with lead-changes and drama, so taxing to their bullpen, that just for it to be friggin' over, let alone to accumulate a hectic, 12-inning, 10-7 win in the process, seems like a relief.

Whitworth, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced today that seven Kansas City, Mo., residents have been indicted by a federal grand jury for their roles in a mortgage fraud scheme that involved the purchase of a $605,000 house in Parkville, Mo. Lloyd Claerhout, 26, Scott J. Schirmer, 32, William R. Wonder III, 31, David E. Twitty, 27, Cameron D. Bennett, 34, Jennifer R. Hernandez, 37, and Katherine S. Sartain, 53, all of Kansas City-North, were charged in a two-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City. The federal indictment alleges that each of the defendants participated in a conspiracy to commit bank fraud from July to October 2007. In addition to the conspiracy, each defendant is charged with one count of bank fraud. Burnett, Gil Meche, Randy Wolf, Paul Byrd, Joe Blanton, Erik Bedard, and Aaron Cook. Gammons notes that the Cubs tried to sign Meche in the winter of '06 (as did the Jays). The Kansas City Star's Bob Dutton spoke to Meche as well as a club official. It doesn't seem that the Royals will shop Meche, and he wouldn't necessarily waive his no-trade clause for Chicago anyway. Dutton's club source indicated that Meche is expected to be a big part of the next winning Royals team. Meche earns $11MM this year, $11MM in '09, $12MM in '10, and $12MM in '11.
