Ultralyd can be said to operate in a sonic landscape that has as much in common with modern contemporary music as wiith drone metal. While their vinyl only release ?Renditions? on The Last Record Company label in 2009 and their contribution to our recent ?Twenty Centuries Of Stony Sleep? compilation can easily be described as belonging to the former, ?Inertiadrome? introduces a more rhythm based, rough edged sound. What you get is an instrumental album of ensemble playing, practically free of soloing, largely driven by Olsen´s relentless drumming and Brandsdal´s monster heavy bass. Hana and Møster´s unorthodox guitar and sax treatments are filling the gaps while a bleak and futuristic sounding production gives it a distict sense of doom. Oil on canvas. The Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia. In his recent study of art displayed in contemporary American homes, David Halle discovered that landscape pictures are the first in popularity in all various social classes he surveyed. Importantly his study shows further that almost all the landscape pictures he sampled are about "a sedate and tranquil nature" with few or no human figures, and that people's general reason for preferring landscapes to other genres is "above all the tranquillity of the subject matter," because "they are 'calm', 'restful'; they offer 'solitude' and 'quiet'; they soothe." (David Halle, Inside Culture: Art and Class in the American Home (Chicago, 111.: The University of Chicago Press, 1993), pp. 59-72) Without doubt, as Halle himself has c...

Big landscapes
2008-07-30 16:00:00
Both images of Jell's Park lake are multi-photo panoramics stiched together with autostich. Note the exposure "banding" because I had the camera on automatic (which meant the light meter re-choose the exposure for each photo). I haven't figured out a simple way to post process this out. Setting the camera to use the same exposure across all the photos in the set is of course the preferred approach. However sometimes you are more intent on framing and just pressing the button, I'm sure you know what I mean!

Erawan Shrine in Bangkok
2008-05-29 19:40:00
The Erawan Shrine (in Thai called "San Pra Phom) is located beside the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel area and it's close to Central World, the Police Hospital, Gaysorn Plaza, BTS station, etc. Many people and travelers visit the Erawan Shrine in order to pay the homage to the Pra Bhom and they also make wishes about love, money, family, etc.I had a chance to take some photos because I attended my training course in the Marriott Hotel on Sukhumvit Rd so I had free time in the evening to take photos from this place.I will continue posting some photos from The Erawan Shrine : )For more information please see from these following links:http://en.wikipedia.org/w-iki/Erawan_Shrinehttp://www.tha-ilandguidebook.com/erawanshrine-.htmlHave a nice day.Cheers,DSM

ABC Wednesday - P = Playing in The Fun Park at Night Time
2008-05-07 12:04:00
My ABC Wednesday was named as "P=Playing in The Fun Park at Night Time". I took those photos at the Coca Cola Festival held in Bangkok last month.I used very slow shutter speed about 4-30 seconds and rested my camera on a tripod so that I would get nice and sharp photos with beautifully moving light. You can take the photos like mine by using either a compact digital camera or a DSLR. The only thing you need is a tripod because you can not steadily hold your camera for long time. If you use the tripod, you will get the sharp of the stable objects and you will also capture the moving light at the same time. Please visit http://mrsnesbittsplace.blogspo-t.com/ and say hello to our ABC Wednesday friends : )
Manufactured Landscapes
2008-05-05 23:48:00
Manufactured LandscapesPlotPhotographer Edward Burtynsky travels the world observing changes in landscapes due to industrial work and manufacturing.ReviewEdward Burtynsky photographs the impact humanity has made on the landscape. He claims to have no agenda and simply wants people to witness the terrible beauty of industrialisation and draw their own conclusion whether their consumer goods are worth this much ecological damage. However, as she proves in the stunning opening tracking shot, documentarist Jennifer Baichwal isn?t quite so passive. Yet there are moments when Burtynsky and Baichwal indulge in eco porn, as they capture soulless workplaces across China with a dismayed wonder that contrasts starkly with the celebratory montages of the Constructivists of Soviet Russia. VerdictA beautiful-looking documentary that would have benefitted from a more passive stance.Source: EmpireOnline

The Giant Swing Series (Part 1)
2008-04-29 08:38:00
The Giant Swing was originally constructed in 1784 in front of the Devasathan shrine by King Rama I. During the reign of Rama II the swing ceremony was discontinued as the swing had become structurally damaged by lightning. In 1920 it was renovated and moved to its current location in order to make space for a gas plant. The ceremony was again performed until 1935, when it was discontinued after several fatal accidents. The last renovations were done in 1959, and after 45 years of exposure to the elements the wooden pillars were showing signs of serious damage. A major reconstruction began in April 2005. Six teak tree trunks were used. The two used for the main structure of the swing are over 3.5m in circumference and over 30m in height. The remaining four are used for support and are 2.30m in circumference and 20m in height.[1] The swing was taken down in late October 2006 and the work finished late December of the same year. The rebuilt swing was dedicated in royal ceremonies pres...

Create photorealistic landscapes with Terragen
2008-03-25 14:55:00
Terragen is one of those unfortunate tools that get very little exposure in spite of the results it can achieve. Wikipedia describes it as being popular among "amateur artists" which is so inaccurate. Terragen is a 3D landscape generator and if used with skill can create some truly breathtaking scenes. The truth is: you need little skill to work with this program. Take for instance the following scene, which I created in 3 minutes flat. I know it isn't that great, but considering that I used... ...
