Bauer-Puntu Linux 12.04 is Alive!
2012-05-03 09:00:00 This post has been a really long time coming. For those of you that actually use Bauer-Puntu regularly (Thanks by the way) you know that I was not able to make a 11.10 version. Also, in the 11.04 version I found out rather late that the version of CHNTPW I had installed didn?t work anymore. Well, that?s all fixed now people! In this new version, mostly fueled by political issues in the news lately on new legislation that the US Government has been trying to push like SOPA, NDAA and CISPA, I decided to pay a little homage to those who are fighting the dirty fight for our freedoms on the Internet. I?m talking about the hacktivist group Anonymous. Now, this version of Bauer-Puntu is not intended to be a replacement for the Anonymous OS that you may or may not have heard of, but it may just be as useful to you with some of the goodies I installed in this version. Google Axes Google Talk Mobile Web App, Picasa For Linux And Others
2012-04-24 11:49:00 While it is true that Google as company has grown phenomenally over the year, the number of services that it has shut down over the last year is increasing. Google Buzz, Wave, Labs, Fast Flip, Aardvark were some its standalone services that were shut down. Now, they have announced that they have shut down a few more services, the most noteworthy among them being the Mobile Web App for Google Talk which allowed Google users to chat with each other on their phones irrespective of the operating system the phones ran. This means no Google Sync for Blackberry which was used by a majority of Blackberry users to sync contacts and chat. Blackberry users are being advised to use the BlackBerry Internet Service or the Google Apps Connector for BlackBerry Enterprise Server which Google claims are better the Google Sync. The support will end in a month. Users who already use Google Sync on Blackberry can continue using it but there will not be any future updates for it. Some were custom built jobs that were in decent working order that I just didn?t want to support, and some were a few years old, still worked okay but mainly didn?t match any hardware standard we had going. I decided to donate all of these computers, but before I called a local non-profit to haul them away in exchange for a tax deductible receipt, I made these machines available to employees. What a nice thing to do right? Before donating computers though I securely wiped the drives with DBAN. That meant that for one no company info got into the wrong hands, and two I didn?t have to support anyone?s old Windows install. Plus I didn?t have to worry about licensing issues.
