Chicago Would Eat Hard-Core Bill O'Reilly For Lunch
2009-12-15 04:48:00
For as much as O'Reilly mercilessly lambastes anyone who has an opposing opinion, he has the nerve to get upset when a TV show takes a swing at him?

Hot Doug's Gave Me the Worst After-Lunch Food Coma
2009-10-23 14:30:00
Doug himself (Photo: Ian Merritt, http://blog.idmphotography.com)-I've been trying to go to Chicago's famous hot dog restaurant Hot Doug's out on California and Roscoe almost since I moved here two years ago. Hot Doug's usually requires you to wait in line outside, though, and for someone with utterly no patience for food-waiting, it never worked out. Finally, we had a quiet day at work yesterday, so four of my co-workers and I piled into a car and made the drive from the South Loop up to Hot Doug's. Yes, we had to wait in line, but it wasn't too bad (plus it was time spent not working, which is my favorite thing to do besides orgasms). I got myself the...
HOUSEWIVES LINNETHIA 'NENE' LEAKS & GRETCHEN ROSSI LUNCH IN BEVERLY HILLS
2009-09-22 16:43:00
"Nene makes it rain!" At least that's what one of my friends who attended one of her ATL club appearances told me said (and did).  Yesterday, Linnethia (government, but she's not hood) and Greg were spotted lunching at Villa Blanca in Beverly Hills with Real Housewives of OC star Gretchen Rossi and her boyfriend Slade Smiley.  It's good to see that the ladies from different installments of the Bravo series get along.  If you missed the Atlanta housewives' alter-ego photos, head over to [FREDDY-O] to check them out. imagery| bauer-griffin

Lunch at Simmzy's Pub in Manhattan Beach, California
2009-08-10 08:01:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Walking through the streets of downtown Manhattan Beach is a favorite pastime of ours. The area has a nice beachy upscale feeling and some of our favorite coffee shops, eateries and such. When new establishments come to town we check them out as soon as we can. One such place we observed is Simmzy's Pub, a relative newcomer. I remember this space housing a Japanese restaurant not long ago. We noticed crowds every time we passed by Simmzy's and that only increased our wish to visit it in the near future. We had lunch there last week and here is the verdict.Rate and Review : Lunch at Simmzy's Pub in Manhattan Beach, California
Weekday Lunch at Hank's Bistro in Lawndale, California
2009-08-06 19:21:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: I have not been to Hank's Bistro in several years prior to this last visit. We used to go there for good Persian food all the time. A lunch time meeting with a friend in the area reminded me of this restaurant and the decision was made to have our mid day meal there. We met around noon on this weekday. The restaurant is located on the corner of Hawthorne Blvd and Rosecrans in a mini mall. The signs for the restaurant have faded a bit and the inscription with the name was hard to read. The Persian lettering was more obvious.Rate and Review : Weekday Lunch at Hank's Bistro in Lawndale, California
Quick Lunch at Yokohama Sushi in Culver City, CA
2009-08-01 10:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In the midst of running a million errands today, I stopped for a quick lunch at Yokohama Sushi in Culver City. It is located in the mall at the corner of Venice and Overland. You cannot see it from the street however. It is well hidden in a passage way between the Starbucks and Best Buy (generally speaking). I walked in to ask if they had lunch specials, they showed me some combinations that looked good and my mind was made up.Rate and Review : Quick Lunch at Yokohama Sushi in Culver City, CA
Lunch for $7.50 or less: Norwood Park edition
2009-07-20 19:00:00
It's Munch Time! Or lunch time, fine if that's what you want to call it. Welcome to another edition of Lunch for $7.50 or less. In honor of July's designation as National Hot Dog month (read more about our hot dog social media experiment and to submit your hot dog photos, go here) lunch today is, naturally, a hot dog. It's the perfect budget lunch for us working-class folks. It's got most of the food groups represented (meat, grains, veggies--hey, relish and sport peppers are veggies, right?), it's fast, it's delicious! But of course there's always the debate: Which Chicago dog is top dog?...

Lunch With A Legend
2009-06-25 17:19:00
Len Kasper and Ernie HarwellWGN Radio's Judd Sirott and I had a memorable afternoon on Wednesday as we met up with one of our all-time heroes, Hall of Fame broadcaster Ernie Harwell, for lunch. I called Ernie last week and he was more than happy to get together to talk some baseball and broadcasting and go down memory lane. At 91, he's in great shape physically and sounds like he could jump right back into the booth without missing a beat. He and his lovely wife, Lulu, welcomed us into their home after we had lunch and Ernie told stories about his career, asked us questions about our routines and how we do things these days and at the end...
A Tasty and Healthy Lunch at the Zoo? Yes, It's True.
2009-06-22 22:25:00
Photo by Caitlin Murray GilesI have had my fair share of disgusting lunches at the zoo (both Brookfield and Lincoln Park). And for that reason, I usually pack our lunches when we make an excursion to visit our animal friends. But my chaotic morning left no time for packing sack lunches so we found ourselves in need of sustenance at the Lincoln Park Zoo around noon today. Our hungry tummies made a happy discovery. We decided to eat at the newly-opened Cafe at Wild Things and it was a surprisingly pleasant experience. First, we loved the quiet, uncrowded, al fresco setting with a great view of the lions and seals. The masses don't seem to have discovered this little oasis...

Lunch at Salonika Gyros, Pittsburgh, PA
2009-05-01 01:00:00
I came across some pictures of delicious chicken on my laptop the other day. It brought back memories from one of my past trips to Pittsburgh. Salonika Gyros is a fast food Greek restaurant that looks like a typical pizza shop, but also has a bar in the back. It is located at 133 6th St, in the downtown Pittsburgh area. When I recently googled this restaurant, I came across this. So according to the Pittsburgh City Paper, they were voted the 3rd Best Greek Restaurant in Pittsburgh by their readers. I thought that was cool, until I noticed that P.F. Chang's was voted as the 3rd Best Chinese Restaurant. I chucked for a bit. Anyway, this gyro place was also featured here earlier this month.During one of my past visit in Pittsburgh, my buddy and I made a trip to Salonika Gyros. He's talked a lot about this delicious chicken and rice special they offer during the weekdays, while supplies last. Therefore, we decided to head over for this lunch special. Here it is! Lunch Box #14
2009-03-18 03:41:00
This is my last lunch box I prepared for my son. He doesn't want to bring lunch box to school anymore. :(I suspect that he prefers to bring money to school so he can buy and eat whatever he likes. Noone to stop him. :/ Hmm ... I don't think I'll stop making lunch box for him. I'm just going to let him have some freedom and fun buy food from the school canteen, then start making lunch box again. This lunch was made according to my son's request. Noodles, lightly stir fried with sesame seed oil and oyster sauce. I added Kai Lan, carrots and fish cakes to it too. I actually wanted to do something with the carrots but run out of time, so I just had to leave it as it is with the hole in the middle. :Phttp://feeds.feedburner.com/w-okkingmum

The TV Addict Lunch Break: Ricky Gervais, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, Jason Dohrin

Laugh: At Ricky Gervais and his new comedy-partner-in-crime Elmo in these hilarious out-takes from his recent visit to Sesame Street. Stephen Merchant, be afraid… be very afraid. [Watch] Applaud: NBC, for recognizing the greatness that is FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS by starting negotiations with DirecTV for not just one, but two-seasons of the best show that you — yes YOU — aren’t watching. [Source: EW] Discuss: Whether or not the Parent’s Television Council finally has the right to be incensed with FAMILY GUY following Sunday’s hilarious, albeit somewhat borderline inappropriate episode that included Stewie eating a bowl of cereal with horse sperm instead of milk and a horse licking Peter’s bare behind. [Source: B&C] Learn: That if you’re anything like this TV Addict, the CW’s BODY POLITIC just became the fall’s most anticipated new series thanks to today’s announcement that FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS’ Minka Kelly and VERONICA M...
Lunch Box #13
2009-03-04 17:08:00
This is one of the older lunch box I did for my son. He had requested to buy his lunch from the canteen. I guess he just wants to follow his friends. The lunch box here has spinach packed rice cake. I dip a little light soy sauce and pan fried it. Carrots and sausage are steamed. I 'stick' the sausage with melted cheese. You must make sure the sausage is dry for the cheese to stick. My son asked my to pack some furikake to season the rice. : So that's what's in the bottle.http://feeds.feedburner.-com/wokkingmum

Wynn - breakfast / lunch buffet 2008
2009-01-31 04:12:00
Wynn breakfast buffet. We got here for breakfast, but when we were leaving, it was lunch, so we could try out breakfast and lunch both. Price was $12.57 per person for breakfast. They had a promotion for new players, if you join the players club and earn enough points, you get 2 free buffets. I received free play, too. I had never made a card here with my name before, so I made it to get the free play and buffet. The last time we were here at the Wynn buffet was back in 2006, and it was dinner. So this was actually our first time trying the breakfast and lunch buffet. It was actually very good. I loved their breakfast items. All this quality food for $12.57, that is a bargain.CLICK HERE and HERE for 2006 dinner buffet pics.Did you know, they are all fruits and vegetables?fruit salad, yogurt, grapefruit, sausage, egg benedict, and dry breadfrench toast, ham, eggs, sausagepastries and yogurt with lots of strawberries and granolaThe croissant was very good. Lunch Box #8
2008-11-28 00:41:00
My son has been snacking a lot in his tuition center. His excuse was he is hungry. I said it was an excuse because he took a full meal before he goes for his tuition and his tuition is only 1 1/2 hours long. He is just looking for excuses to eat tibits. So now I have to prepare tea for him too. Sigh! I'm going to make the kitchen my bedroom one of these days.Anyway, this is a quick and simple tea. Bread with ham and cheese.I fitted the bread in the muffin cup. I use a 6 cup tray. Add some (Mozzarella) Cheese, some (shaved) Ham, some more Cheese and sprinkle on some Parmesan Cheese. I baked on 180C for 5 minutes. Remove the bread from the muffin cup. The results will have the bread looked like a flower or a cup with all the ham and cheese inside.Hopefully, no more tibits or excuses.http://feeds.feedburner-.com/wokkingmum

I did not cook much last week and had some vegetables left in my fridge. I'm trying to finish whatever is left before I buy some more. All I need was some fish paste to settle this simple lunch box for my son. Some of the ingredients, such as carrots and fish paste, are being used twice differently. By doing this, I can have an extra dish.I added some grated carrot to some fish paste for one of the bacon nuggets and stuff cut-out carrot to make it more fanciful.Heart-shaped rice and long beans sandwichCarrots stuffed with Fish PasteBacon Nugget with Spring OnionsAnother set with grated Carrotshttp://feeds.feedburner.-com/wokkingmum
The Best Title Character From A Beatles Song To Have Lunch With
2008-11-20 16:39:00
Two things combined this week to get me thinking about today's nomination. First, I learned that there really was an "Eleanor Rigby," who may not have picked up the rice in the church where a wedding was, but who did do some cleaning, as a scullery maid. The proof that Eleanor Rigby actually existed also proved the existence, yet again, of the "X Market," a term I coined to describe a market in which cornflakes have significant value and, apparently, in which people will likely pay as much as $1.5 million to own a piece of paper on which is written "E. Rigby," and which was owned by Paul McCartney. Why? I don't know. I don't know why there is a market, at all, for this receipt:I suppose I glad that there is a market for it and that some idiot with too much money is going to pay $1.5 million for it and that the $1.5 million will go for charity, but it still befuddles and depresses me a little that we live in a world in which it can be claimed that there is an economic crisis on ...
Lunch Box #6
2008-11-07 09:22:00
This is a simple lunch box for my son today. It is similar to lunch box #4 except now the rice is shaped into cubes. :P The sides are blanched Broccoli seasoned with a pinch of salt and Teriyaki Chicken, which was a mistake. I should have use boneless chicken instead as this is messier to eat. Must remember the next time I do this again.Cubed Rice Teriyaki Mid-joint Wingshttp://feeds.feedburner.co-m/wokkingmum
Lunch Box #5

This is my son's lunch box yesterday. His favourite, Japanese and Mango.Again, I didn't use the usually Japanese short grain rice, just normal Thai fragant rice and I did my own sushi vinegar using the following ingredients:1 1/2 tablespoons rice vinegar1 tablespoon caster sugar1/2 teaspoon saltThe ingredients I used for the maki are (Japanese) Cucumber, Avocado, (sweet) Tamago, Kani, Tobiko and (Japanese) Mayonaise.Want my son to eat a lot and fast? Serve him maki. ;)http://feeds.feedburner.com/w-okkingmum
Lunch Box #4

I managed to get the Sakura Denbu that my son loves so much on Sunday. Needless to say, I used it on my next cooking for him. :)I made tri-colour rice balls using regular rice. I just add 1/2 a cup more water to make the rice more moist so it fluffy and sticky. The one in green is coated with seaweed, white is plain and pink, Denbu of course.A friend told me that NTUC has this chicken nuggets that came in various shapes. I bought a box last week and had include that in the lunch box. I didn't find it tasty and of all the shapes, I could only recognize the heart. Hmmm ... luckily, I bought only 1 box. :) The little blue bottle contains tomato sauce for the nuggets. The veggie is just blanched Kai Lan with sesame seed. I'm using a Maggie soy sauce with sesame seed oil for the the seasoning.Everything was wiped off by my son except for the veggie and 1 of the seaweed rice ball which were finished off by my daughter. Seaweed and Kai Lan are a few of her favourite veggies. ;)In case, yo...

Lunch Box #3
2008-10-16 11:13:00
Opps. It's another Lunch Box post. :P I'm cooking fried rice today and thought it will be a good lunch box idea. This is a rather common lunch box, omu-rice . It's basically egg over rice. I believe the authenic way is to have the rice wrapped in the egg. I wouldn't want to go through the haste of doing that for 2 reasons. It needs more eggs and the kids won't appreciate the effort of doing it. They will just cut the egg and eat it whichever way I do it. :PSo, here's my simple version of omu-rice . I'm not using over-night rice hence the rice is a bit more moist but we prefer it that way. It's softer. All the ingredients are my son's favourite except for the hon-shimeiji. ;) You decide what you want in your riceTo have the egg cover the rice, you first cook the egg. Have slight over half an egg hanging out the lunch box. Adjust the remaining to fitting nicely in the box. Spoon the fried rice into the box sitting on the egg. Flip the rest of the egg over then use a spoon ...
Lunch Box #2
2008-10-15 02:37:00
Every Wednesday my son's kindergarten give them biscuits as snack. I thought since they are having biscuits, I might as well let him bring his own. So I have been preparing little snacks on most Wednesdays for him unless he requested I do it on other days too. The school requested that parents not to prepare greasy or messy food. So the ones I prepared are mostly sandwiches and cakes.Since I'm including Lunch Box ideas here, I'm adding this too. Perhaps when he goes to Primary 1 next year, I'll add more stuff in it.What you see here is bread with Luncheon Meat (Spam for some of you) and apples.http://feeds.feedburner.-com/wokkingmum
Lunch Box #1
2008-10-13 12:12:00
Okay, call me a Kiasu (fear or losing) Mum. I'm learning how to prepare lunch box for my son who's going to Primary 1 next year. I'm trying out the ways of packing the lunch box, what I can pack and how much to pack in it.So I'm starting a new label, Lunch Box, here. It will be pretty much the same as those labelled For Kids except these will be packed in a box (obviously), which I think is a lot harder to do. I'll still make Kid's dinner for my daughter who is 'smart' enough not to be taken in by all the cute looking food. I think she find them weird and non-food like to be eaten. Yes, I'm still trying very hard to make her eat food other than her few favourite food.I have been recycling food ideas I did for my son for my daughter and so far I haven't been successful. I'll think of new food ideas when I have finished trying out the old ones.Back to my lunch box ideas. My son requested to have Japanese Curry today and so I thought why not try to let him have it in a lunch...
The Vegan Lunch Box Giveaway
2008-10-11 10:00:00
Some good books to give away today--get ready!First you don't have to be a vegan to appreciate the great stuff in The Vegan Lunch Box by Jennifer McCann. Myself? I'm not opposed to the occasional bologna sandwich (with mustard and pickles of course) but McCann's book has creative ideas for meatless menus every day of the week. Some are built around ethnic themes (Greek, Thai, Japanese, Mexican, etc.) and some around holiday themes (Halloween spiders, Valentine's Day Peanut Butter and Jelly Pop Hearts) but all are healthy and interesting--and oh so cute packed in their little bento boxes. Some of the recipes are pretty involved for a school lunch but if you were to use them as a dinner then save some for the next day's lunch it makes everything much more doable. Many of the recipes use strange things as meat substitutes (how on earth would one find non-meat deli slices for example? I'm not sure the colors and preservatives it would take to turn soy beans into salami aren't ...

Eating Out: The Lunch Room
2008-09-27 15:46:00
I don't think there's any mention of this place anywhere on the web yet... well, it only opened a few weeks ago. The Lunch Room is in the Kathu area of Phuket, close to Kathu Waterfall (coming from Patong you'd go just past the waterfall road - Soi Namtok Kathu - and The Lunch Room is on the right side). This area of Kathu is being built up rapidly - lots of new houses around here, and it's just a couple of minutes from the Loch Palm Golf Club. We live in Kathu and we know the owner of The Lunch Room pretty well - she used to work with my wife years ago in the dive shop - and her husband was a dive instructor too!The Lunch Room is open every day except Sunday and does Thai food, all day breakfasts, some excellent baguette sandwiches, burgers, salads, spaghetti, coffee, cakes... Yes, it's not on the tourist trail, but if you are exploring in the Kathu area, it's a good option for a late breakfast, lunch or early dinner. In fact not too many options around there except noodles a...
