2012-05-22 02:27:00 Today's my son's turn to go for his Learning Journey trip with his school. I packed super simple tuna sandwiches for him. I include a packet of 'fries' and a bottle of milk too.For someone who hates eating bread, I made the sandwiches small. I cut a slice of bread into 4. 2012-05-21 05:51:00 Look Hoot's going to Learning Journey? ;) My daughter has is going on a Learning Journey with her school today. The kids has been asked to pack lunch as they will not be able to buy food. As usual, my daughter wanted (boring) sandwiches. I can't resist but to make her a little owl, among the ham sandwiches and kaya sandwiches. I packed crispy seaweed snacks and a bottle of milk for her too. For those who are curious about how I keep the food cool so that they won't turn bad, especially the ham sandwiches, I have an ice-pack to make the lunch box 'air-conditioned'. I put it on the tray that comes with the box (the one in black). The ice-pack doesn't come in contact with the sandwiches so they wont turn soggy too. 2012-05-04 05:33:00 Opps! Another lunch box post. Recently, my broadband has been giving me lots of problem. It kept dying on me. :( It's frustrating to type the recipe half way through and not being to continue. So here's another quick post on what I prepared for my daughter today before the line drop again. It's one of those that didn't go as well as it was planned. Well, at least it's still looked like a frog. Ribbit! Ribbit! ;) I'm using Pandan Bread here for the green colour and with kaya (my daughter was thrilled cos she love kaya). The eyes are from fish cakes. I saved a bit of it from my daughter's breakfast to do it. I secured the eyes using spaghetti. The frog's mouth is filled with scrambled eggs and the tongue using ham. The fly (yes, that's a fly on the tongue!) and the wordings are made out of cheese. So, there you have it. I'll be happy if she will just take a bite or two. I made a all 'fruit' lunch box for the little one, which can never happened; for now. 2012-04-18 05:26:00 It's another Wednesday, another sandwich day for my daughter. Starting next week, she will have her Art & Craft Enrichment in school, which is what she has been waiting for, on Mondays and Tuesdays. She will be having her lunch in school too. Which means I will have to crack my head on what to prepare for her for at least 3 days a week. As usual, she doesn't want cooked food. It's sandwich again but I managed to persuade her to bring ham sandwich for a change. She loves kaya and can have kaya everyday. So what's she will be having today will be a crabby ham sandwich. ^^ The crab sandwich itself is stuffed with shaved ham too. The googly eyes are hard boiled eggs. I have a special tool, which my baby sister's boyfriend helped me buy from taiwan many years ago. I used pokey sticks to hold the eyes and claws to the crab body. The legs are also pokey sticks. I decided to let her bring rice for lunch today but still ask her to take porridge in school during recess. :P The sides are egg, store bought tofu fishcake and snow peas. The bees and flowers are made from egg yolk. It's too light (small) and it doesn't stay well on the rice. :( I should have used cheese instead. I was a bit surprised as I didn't think she will be able to finished that much food but since she requested for extra sandwich for school, I couldn't refuse her. This sandwiches here are for her lunch though. She attends an enrichment program in school every Wednesday and won't be having lunch at home (with me). :( The sandwiches, which has kaya (her fav) for the filling, takes the shape of a fish, in case you haven't noticed. :P The eyes are from the bread crust and the scales made out of cheese. 2012-03-01 10:33:00 This is what I prepared for my daughter for recess today. The same stuff but presented in a different way. I'm using the Happy Call Pan to make this but a regular pan works too. I have added a pinch of salt and a sprinkle of light soy sauce to 2 beaten eggs. I also have chopped Xiao Bai Cai and 2 crabsticks added to the eggs. I had wanted to use ham instead of crabstick since I'm using it with the rice. Didn't realised that someone has finished. :P I used 2 crabsticks to roll with regular rice, not sushi rice and set that aside. I cooked the omelette till it's about 90% cooked. The omelette is dry at the bottom but still a bit wet on the top. I rolled the omelette with the rice roll in it as tightly as possible. To make the omelette roll fully cooked, I covered the pan and let it cook for about 5 minutes, opening occasionally to turn it so it get browned on all 4 sides. After slicing, the omelette roll, I pan fried it in the same pan only on 1 side for 20 s...

As usual we like to have 2 types of soup, plain and spicy. The first thing the server did is asked us to taste the soup first. We tried the the milky one which is the not spicy one. It was very nice, a little herb flavour.

Beijing Day 3: Lunch at Er Mei Restaurant
2012-01-16 16:00:00 It was almost 3 PM by the time we got out of the Bei Hai Park. We were really hungry at that time. There were a number of restaurants around the northern entrance of the Bei Hai Park and so we explored the area to look for a place for a late lunch lunch. I remember coming across a shop which sell roasted chestnut with a very long line. There must be like at least 50 people lining up and the waft of roasted chestnut was so fragrant. As far as I would like to try them, the line was just too long. We settled at the above restaurant called Er Mei Restaurant. Despite it was almost 3 PM, the restaurant was full. So we guess this would be a great place to settle for lunch. We had to wait for 10 minutes for a table. We took it as a good sign.
