Six Questions About Miami Dolphins Draft Pick Jonathan Martin
2012-05-11 16:01:00 Earlier this week, we introduced a new series looking at the Miami Dolphins' 2012 draft class. Basically, the Kansas City Chiefs ask themselves six questions about every draft prospect leading up to the draft. These questions come from Michael Holley's book "War Room," which followed three NFL executives, the New England Patriots' Bill Belichick, Atlanta Falcons' Thomas Dimitroff, and the Chiefs' Scott Pioli, as they prepared for the draft several years ago. We are using those six questions to look at the Dolphins' draft picks. Related: Six Questions About Miami Dolphins Draft Pick Ryan Tannehill The questions, which are answered below about second round pick Jonathan Martin, are: What will this player's role be as a Chief? | Will the role change from year one to year two? | How many downs can he be expected to play? | Which current player on the roster will he beat out? | What's his value on special teams? | Does he have positional versatility? Let's take a look at Mar...

Miami Dolphins All-Time Top 100 Players: 13. Mark Clayton
2012-05-11 14:01:00 Mark Clayton was a 5'9" wide receiver from Indianapolis. He played college ball with the Louisville Cardinals. Miami picked him up in the eighth round of the 1983 NFL Entry Draft. Clayton was used sparingly in the offense as a rookie, appearing in 14 games and catching six passes for 114 yards and his first career touchdown, a tiebreaking 14 yard catch from Dan Marino in the fourth quarter. Miami eventually lost the game to the Buffalo Bills, 38-35. He also completed his only career pass that day, a 48-yard touchdown strike to fellow "Marks Brother," Mark Duper. Clayton's real value in his rookie season was as a punt return specialist. He totalled 392 yards on 41 returns, scoring a 60-yard touchdown in a week 12 37-0 victory over the Baltimore Colts. Miami finished 12-4, AFC East Division Champions. Wood-Strock-ino combined for an NFL second lowest 11 interceptions on the season. In 1984, Clayton led the NFL with 18 touchdown receptions, earning his first Pro Bowl invitation. He w...

Brandon Marshall Wishes Miami Dolphins Luck, Takes Another Shot at Quarterb
2012-05-11 00:42:00 Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall was back in Florida today, promoting his youth football camp at his alma mater, Lake Howell High School, in Orlando. In the publicity rounds, Marshall was interviewed on 740 The Game, during which, the trade that sent him from Miami to the Chicago Bears, as well as his time in Miami came up, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Izzy Gould. Marshall understands why the Dolphins traded him back in March, landing two third round picks in return. "It doesn't make any sense to pay a guy $2 million and only expect him to have 60 or 65 receptions, or 70 receptions, in this new offense," Marshall said. But, being the guy that he is, Marshall couldn't just leave him comments there. He had to get in another dig at the Miami quarterbacks, "Also, if you don't have a quarterback, it doesn't matter who you have out there. You can bring Jerry Rice back, in his prime, and he's not going to be effective." Marshall was vocally ...

May 2012 Miami Dolphins Approval Ratings
2012-05-10 21:13:00 After three days of voting, we can now take a look at the first ever Phinsider fan approval ratings for Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, general manager Jeff Ireland, and head coach Joe Philbin. These approval ratings will become a monthly series on the site, and we will track how the ratings change for each member of the team's leadership. Since this is the first month in which we are doing these approval ratings, we don't have anything to compare them to, yet. But, each month, we will see what the trend is for each of these guys. The trend for the Dolphins right now seems to be going up, so it will be interesting to see how each of the Dolphins' top guys come out on the approval ratings. I am excited to see that at least 1,192 votes were cast for all three members, with Stephen Ross' rating having the most with 1,539 votes. Thank you for taking the time to vote in these polls. First up, we had owner Stephen Ross. He came out with a 55% approval rating, with another 24% se...

Miami Dolphins Early 2012 Odds
2012-05-10 19:00:00 I just turned and checked my calendar (okay, I checked the calendar on my phone, but either way, it still works), and saw that today's date is May 10. Yep, the 2012 NFL season is getting close - only 4 months until games start. Better see if the Miami Dolphins are favored in their upcoming games. Which games you ask? Well, the first 15 of course. You see, despite it being way too early for this sort of thing, Cantor Gaming - which operates several of the Las Vegas sportsbooks - released the odds for the first 16 weeks of the NFL season yesterday. You know, just to beat the rush of guys trying to get their bets in before the Week 1 action begins. And, because it's what we like to do here, we take the way too early betting lines, and discuss them anyway. Week 1: Miami Dolphins at Houston Texans -6.5Week 2: Oakland Raiders at Miami Dolphins -3.5Week 3: New York Jets at Miami Dolphins -1Week 4: Miami Dolphins at Arizona Cardinals -2.5Week 5: Miami Dolphins at Cincinnati Bengals -2.5W...

Miami Dolphins All-Time Top 100 Players: 44. Mike Kolen
2012-04-04 14:01:00 Mike Kolen was a 6'2" linebacker for the Auburn Tigers in college, and was drafted in the 12th round of the 1970 NFL Entry Draft by Miami, with the 289th overall pick. He joined the team as they joined the NFL, and as a rookie started all 14 games at right linebacker. He made around 85 tackles as the Dolphins qualified for their first ever postseason with a 10-4 record. The defense was middle of the road, statistically speaking, but the "No-Name" defense had yet to make a name for itself, so to speak. Continue reading after the jump. In 1971, Kolen started 10 of 14 games for Miami, registering around 65 tackles. Miami posted a new franchise best 10-3-1 record, advancing to Super Bowl VI. The defense ranked as the second best in the AFC, allowing 174 points, second only to Baltimore. Miami Dolphins Coaching Search Continues With Packers OC Philbin
2012-01-06 18:01:00 The Miami Dolphins are expected to continue the search for their next head coach with an interview of Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. Philbin has been with the Packers since 2003, initially serving as their assistant offensive line coach for a year. He added responsibility for the tight ends in 2004, then moved up to become the offensive line coach in 2006. Philbin took over as the team's offensive coordinator in 2007, serving in that role for the last five seasons. Since he took over as the Packers' offensive coordinator, the team has never been ranked lower than tenth in points scored and total yards for the season, along with winning the Super Bowl last season. The Dolphins interest in Philbin, and the expected interview, was tweeted by Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: @BobMcGinn Bob McGinn #Packers O-coordiinator Joe Philbin will have another h-coach shot. 2012 Free Agents: Options for the Miami Dolphins
2012-01-06 11:00:00 I no longer have my fantasy football posts to churn out on Fridays so instead I'll post weekly updates on potential free agents and once free agency begins, I will recap the signings and releases. We have plenty of time before free agency begins and plenty of players will still resign with their teams before the period. Since we have some weeks to discuss, I'll start this one slowly by listing notable free agents for each position. As we move along, I will start discussing potential targets and what the terms of the deals may be in order to land some of the players. Here is the list of notable free agents: QBs: Drew Brees: Don't expect him to be there. I list him because technically, he will be a free agent. If he doesn't receive the franchise tag and hits free agency, every member of New Orleans' front office should be fired. Matt Flynn: His recent outing against the Lions just helped earn him another few million per year. Suddenly he's the highest prospect at QB that legitim...

2011-12-23 12:00:00 This Week The New England Patriots host their AFC East Rival Miami Dolphins at Gillette Stadium on Sunday at 4:15 p.m. The Patriots (11-3) are 5-1 at The Razor, 3-1 against the AFC East and 8-2 in the conference. The Dolphins (5-9) are 2-5 on the road, 2-2 vs. the AFC East and 4-6 against the conference. The Line/Prediction As of Thursday the line on the game from Yahoo! Sports have the Patriots at MINUS 10. The over under is 48. My Prediction is Patriots 35, Dolphins, 27. Take the points (Dolphins) and take the over. I am 8-5-1 against the spread and 10 of 14 on calling the over/under in 2011. Tickets The Patriots are reporting the game as a sell out. It is the 190th consecutive sell out dating back to the 1994 season opener. The record includes preseason, regular season and playoff games. Miami Dolphins: Great? Not yet, but they have potential!
2010-10-20 11:00:00 More photos » Scott Boehm - Getty Images Browse more photos » I especially enjoyed watching the Dolphins play this past Sunday! Of course, there were the obvious reasons; great game, Miami win, etc... But also because I got to share this Miami win with some friends of mine in Denver. When you live outside of Miami, it is sometimes challenging to find other Miami fans to sit down with, have a beer, watch the game, and root for our Fins. So I left Southern California on Friday evening and rolled into Denver just in time to catch the game with some real, live Fin Fans! And how sweet a victory it was! But something else that is interesting is that when you are actually watching the game with friends, you talk about stuff more than if you just happen to be sitting next to some guy in a sports bar. You know, "stuff...

2008-12-30 10:26:00 (Artist credit: Christian Lassen)I think I may be having a relapse in my bronchitis :-( Was feeling all gung ho last evening but my roommate started getting sick about two or three days ago and now I feel like maybe whatever she had has been passed on to me too. :: sigh :: I don't feel downright awful, but it's been hitting more more in the last few hours. I decided that before I'm down again for the count, to put fingers to keyboard and get at least a New Year's message out :-) The Sea Shepherd crew has been quite busy in the Southern Ocean. In their first week out, they caught up with the whalers and put them immediately on the run. That's pretty impressive - to catch up with them so quickly. I do recall last year, Captain Watson had mentioned something about the possibility of bugging the Japanese whale ships in order to keep track of them. I wonder if he was able to accomplish that this year somehow? After all, that's one helluva big-assed ocean down there and it...
Second Favorite Football Team
2008-12-29 16:16:00 Let?s say that you are forced to cheer for a professional football team other than the team you currently support. Who would you choose? Here are my personal criteria in picking a "second favorite" team:1. They cannot be in the same division as the Pittsburgh Steelers.2. They cannot be the Dallas Cowboys or New England Patriots.3. There has to be some type of personal connection.Based on these factors, if I had to choose a second favorite team, the winner would be the Miami Dolphins. Besides not being in the AFC North and not being the Cowboys or Patriots, the Dolphins certainly meet item #3. Former Dolphins superstar Dan Marino is from Pittsburgh and played for the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. In addition, the Dolphins have had a player from my high school since 1997 (Jason Taylor from 1997-2007 and Lousaka Polite this season). Plus, the always entertaining former Steeler Joey Porter is a current member of the Dolphins. Overall, how can you not support a team that was ...

The team?s outstanding play has put us in playoff contention as we head into the final game of the regular season. As a result, the National Football League has authorized us to make plans for a possible post-season game to be played at Dolphin Stadium on Saturday, January 3rd or Sunday, January 4th. Our players and coaches have appreciated our fans? support all season long and the home-field advantage they have provided will be even more critical in the post-season. Top 5 Miami Dolphins Moments of Past 15 Years
2008-06-05 06:16:00 So a couple of days ago I was watching the classic Dolphins/Jets game from 1994 on NFL Network and I got to thinking (which I try not to do too much). And what came from my thinking was deciding to take a break from all the recent Dolphins news and take a trip down memory lane. So today, I present to you all the top 5 moments (in-game moments, that is - not as in when the Dolphins drafted "X" player or traded for "X player) of the past 15 years, in my own personal opinion. And that's the fun of this. Some you might agree with. Some you probably won't. But it makes for a fun debate and is something to help past the time until this weekend's mini-camp, which the media is able to access (meaning we'll have some good reports on what is going on). So let's get into my top 5 moments of the past 15 years: Number 5: Dolphins vs Raiders, Week 2 2001 Some might be wondering why an early season game is up this high. Well the Raiders were coming off of a...

2008-05-24 04:00:00 Add Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter to the list of whiny crybabies that feel the New England Patriots weren’t punished enough, got away easy, a league conspiracy, etc. Porter in comments made on ESPN’s “NFL Live” says the Patriots should have an asterisk put next to their name. It amazes me that people who play or ...

Paw Prints: Thomas Signs Deal With Miami
2008-05-23 22:00:00 The Miami Dolphins website is reporting that the team signed sixth round draft pick Donald Thomas to a multi-year contract. Thomas was a four year letterman at UConn where he played in 34 games, including 15 starts at guard over his final two seasons. Thomas originally started his college career as a defensive lineman and moved ...

Jason Taylor Mad with Bill Parcells, Tony Sparano and The Miami Dolphins?
2008-05-22 04:49:00 Folks I’m MAD...what the HELL is this new Miami Dolphins organization doing? Why is my homie, Jason Taylor upset? What is Bill Parcells and the new head coach, Tony Sparano, doing to Jason Taylor? They must be saying or doing some rather brutal things for this loyal and All Star, Pro Bowl Defensive player to not want to participate with his beloved Miami Dolphin teammates. Jason Taylor is a true gentleman and has always been 100% with the Miami Dolphins - a true warrior. Something ain't right folks. Now, I almost lost it when they relaesed Zach Thomas, another true Dolphin...now there after Taylor. I’m telling you, this mess happens every year with this troubled team and I am so tried of it. I do trust Bill Parcells, he’s a proven winner, I feel he is needed here, but what’s going on? Could Bill Parcells be antagonizing, harassing my buddie, Jason(Superman) Taylor? Well, that’s what’s floating around in my Miami Dolphin mind, somebody saying something or somebody doing ...
Linc?d Up May 20th, 2008
2008-05-20 09:36:00 The Flyers got blown out, the Phillies frustrate you, Barkley is a dope, the Eagles red zone was not so bad, there have been 100 consecutive losing seasons in Philadelphia, and plenty of news from around the NFL. Here is the photoshopped picture of DeSean Jackson flying. Thanks to EaglesFans.com for this. Lincs to check out: The Flyers ...
Lorenzo Booker The Sports Reporter
2008-05-14 10:54:00 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PEmU0FZ2h8Q Booker seems like he has a pretty good personality. He looks excited to be drafted by the Miami Dolphins in this video. Little did he know he would end up being traded to the Eagles 1 year later. If he doesn’t make it in football, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him doing some kind of broadcasting. John ...
Top Five Reasons to be a Miami Dolphins Fan
2008-05-06 00:00:00 Top Five Reasons to be a Miami Dolphins FanBy: Jennifer Jordan Being a Miami Dolphins fan comes with its fair share of heartache, with the team inconsistent these past few years. But, the same can be said about being a fan of any team (right, teams coached by Marty Schottenheimer?). ...
Jake Long: Miami Dolphins 1st Round Pick Meets The Media
2008-04-29 20:19:00 I'm still uploading videos from the NFL Draft. For more, visit my YouTube channel Zennie62 and our NFL Draft blog. Here we see Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long get selected "number one" by the Miami Dolphins, then meet the media in the Interview Room downstairs. This is more of a kind of behind the scenes video for those who've never seen the process with the media. I also included his Mom holding up his Dolphins "Number One" jersey.
Thomas Taken By Dolphins In 6th Round
2008-04-27 22:39:00 After falling further than the original projections, UConn Huskies offensive lineman Donald Thomas was finally taken by the Miami Dolphins with the 29th pick (195th overall) in the 6th round. Thomas had a good NFL Combine and it had been thought he would have gone in the 4th or 5th round today. Thomas will give the ...

Wow? A Sports Team With A Heart?
2008-04-27 19:04:00 Pro Football Talk picked up on a Sun Sentinel article that quoted Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga saying Jason Taylor “deserved” to be traded. That’s a classy move coming from a franchise that has absolutely no chance of winning. Jason Taylor has given the Dolphins 9 or 10 years of hall of fame qualty play, ...

Eagles Trade For Lorenzo booker
2008-04-27 00:22:00 The Eagles just acquired RB and return specialist Lorenzo Booker for a 4th round pick(114). Booker was a third round pick of the Miami Dolphins just last year, but did not get much playing time as a rookie. Booker is basically your typical scat back type. He is very quick, agile, and a great receiver. At ...
Miami Dolphins signs Jake Long
2008-04-24 01:51:00 The Miami Dolphins signed Jake Long to a five-year contract with $30 million guaranteed. The deal allows the Dolphins and Long to avoid a possible holdout. “It’s really important for us to know Jake is going to be on the field for us on time when training camp begins in July,” Coach Tony Sparano said. “That ...

The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders Should Have Bigger Roles
2008-04-23 13:06:00 I’m 99% sure that I’d rather go to the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders website than the website of the real team for at least the next 15 years. As everyone has pointed out, this is clearly the only hope for this NFL franchise right now. In all honesty, ownership should really start thinking about putting these ...
NFL Draft Nuggets: Chad Johnson, Miami Dolphins, Bucs Draft Philosophy
2008-04-23 04:08:00 With the first pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.. The Miami Dolphins select, Offensive Tackle Jake Long, from the University of Michigan. Yes, its only tuesday and the first Draft Pick has been signed, sealed, and delivered. I hate the early Draft signings, I really do. Talk about a buzz kill. How Goodell even lets it happen is beyond me. At any rate, good luck to the Dolphins. SBNation is 1 for 1 so far with the NFL Mock Draft. Not bad, not bad.. The St. Louis Rams are now on the clock! Marvin Lewis and the Bengals have it out for WR Chad Johnson (with good reason imo). The Redskins offered their '08 1st Round Draft Pick (No.21) and a potential '09 1st Round Draft Pick for WR Chad Johnson and got DENIED. The '09 1st Round Draft pick hinged on Ocho Cinco's ability to reach certain production plateaus. I have a feeling Chad Johnson won't see the field this season. Marvin Lewis seems crazy-stubborn-scorned enough to let that happen. Two 1st Round Draft Picks for Chad got denied, w...
