Spielberg reportedly approached her on the set of Memoirs with an offer for a part. 2006-12-19 09:22:01 Clint Eastwood is being courted to star in the planned $40m adaptation of Iris Chang’s novel ‘The Rape Of Nanking‘. The veteran Hollywood star is one of several stars already offered roles in the film, with actresses Meryl Streep, Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi all in the running. The film will apparently be directed by Simon West and follows the story of the titular massacre carried out in China by Japanese troops leading up to World War Two in 1938. During the occupation of Nanking, the Japanese army allegedly raped, looted and committed numerous similar atrocities, including the execution of political prisoners and wrongfully accused innocent civilians. According to Moviehole.net, the film’s central characters will be a group of foreign nationals who help to protect thousands of civilians during the massacre.
