February 3~Four Chaplains Day
2012-02-04 02:13:00
In 1948, February 3 was established by an act of Congress as the annual ‘Four Chaplains Day’. They were four United States Army chaplains who gave their lives to save other civilian and military personnel during the sinking of the troop ship USAT Dorchester on February 3, 1943, during World War II. They helped other ...

From FAS Project on Government Secrecy, we learn that over 251 certificates of authorization for drones over U.S. airspace have already been approved in 2010: The use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) within the United States is certain to increase in the years to come, as a new Army policy has recently made clear. ...

I am Uneasy About Los Angeles Military Training
2012-01-25 03:47:00
OK. So, the military will be training in Los Angeles. That link is from local news, main stream. It has a tone of, “Don’t worry, nothing to see here.” I live in a suburb town about 10 minutes (ok, an hour with traffic, Good Lord the traffic) from Los Angeles. The “tin foil hat” sites that I frequent are BLOWING.UP.  I’m not going to share those links with you. I’m just going to share my thoughts. The military has entire installations with all kinds of settings for training – as well it should. My husband, a former Marine, has trained in whole urban towns, sewers and all, for potential urban atmospheres. Those urban towns are on base. So, I immediately come to the thought of why is Los Angeles necessary? With the various conflicts around the world, people angry with the United States, and the mere names of Iran and Israel creating anxiety, there’s certainly the threat of war. With the defense act, Agenda 21, FEMA camps, and US ci...
Afghanistan: moral and military aspects
2012-01-20 08:43:00
The American invasion of Afghanistan was all the more bizarre since the Russians fled it just a few years ago. American politicians and military men universally predicted the Soviet failure, but rushed to fail on their own. The NATO contingent in Afghanistan is pathetically small—one-fifth of the number of Soviet troops who served there—and the Soviets lost. In Iraq and Afghanistan, American generals failed to convince their political leaders that saturation is a major factor in pacifying an occupied state. The lack of peacekeeping forces is especially odd on the background of huge conscripted armies elsewhere: when countries such as Russia and China pay to train their young in the mass murder called the art of war, why not use those conscripts for peacekeeping missions abroad? A lot of them would gladly accept the action for little pay. The United States lacked a goal in Afghanistan. Speaking thirty-three days after 9/11, Bush demanded of the Taliban a single thing: render Osa...

Will Lasers Really Make Effective Military Weapons?
2012-01-18 13:23:00
Given enough time and money, we can develop high-power, solid-state laser weapons that can knock out drones, shoot mortar rounds out of the air, or create diversions on enemy ships. The question is, will those weapons function consistently and reliably in battlefield environments, not just a handful

VIDEO GAMES AND ARMY GUNS

It is reported that the guns will feature a high level of authenticity including the Army's logo. What's most striking is that the move is part of an effort to recruit more young people into the armed forces via the glorification of games and guns. Nuts!

Bullying and our Military Children
2011-12-23 15:29:00
I am a mom.  Mom of a senior in high school, a 3rd grader, a 1st grader, and a toddler. My 3rd grader is a bit on the small side.  He's never been on the 'charts' and we have even been to a specialist just to be sure all is well.  All is well, medically, and his stature has been chalked up to genetics and that is a-ok with me.  However, already at 9 years old I have witnessed a few instances of the 'bigger kids' picking on the smaller (same age but some twice his size).  One instance of apparent bullying was a fellow soccer player, church friend and school mate pushed my son down and then put his foot on my son's head as if it were a ball.  I yelled.  Dad of fellow-soccer player just watched.  I went into  mother-bear mode.  Aforementioned Dad went into "ha ha, isn't that kind of funny mode." What kind of parent are you? Equip your kids.  Talk about it.  Make teachable...

THE RE-EDUCATION OF INDONESIA
2011-12-22 23:34:00
In an attempt to reclaim "lost" youth and restore "moral values," authorities in Indonesia are corralling dozens of punk teens and forcing them to give up their rebellious ways. The effort includes shaving the heads of many of the detainees, ridding them of their punk attire, and forcing them into a strict regimen of religion and military drills. Despite the clamp down, The Guardian reports, many of the teens are still rebelling and sticking to their punk ethics. Here's what one young man had to say about fighting the power:
