Ron Paul wins Minnesota delegates
2012-05-21 18:12:00 When Ron Paul's campaign stated last week that Mitt Romney's delegate lead was insurmountable, Paul's staff insisted they would continue competing for delegates and cited Minnesota as their next target. This past weekend, Paul accomplished that goal, winning 12 of 13 delegates at the state GOP convention. "Victories in Minnesota and other states demonstrate that ...

Minnesota Bass Fishing in March
2012-03-30 04:22:00 What a wonderful lack of winter and early spring we have had. Could not have been more welcome considering I had to stare at the BassCat that I bought in November all winter long. This past Sunday I got out to the Mississippi River for some bass fishing. Super happy that in less then an hour from my home in Lakeville, I can be on Mississippi River for some completely legal bass fishing even in March. Fellow Gopher Bassmaster member Chong joined me out on the water. We started on a couple points leading into known spawing coves as the water was 55 degrees when we launched. The second point gave up a 3lb plus smallmouth to Chong and 2lb largie to me on a black tube. We then made a run back to some backwaters, as the main reason Chong came with was to learn a little about how to navigate the river. The water was 58-59 degrees in this area, I caught two quick largemouth on shad colored Shad Rap along a rip rap bank, the next spot gave up a couple mo...

Elder law awareness: 46-year old Minnesota man commits elder abuse against
2011-12-17 01:23:00 As a family member ages, he can become more dependent on his healthier spouse or grown children to care for him, keep him healthy, and continue to protect him as his health fails.Unfortunately, sometimes the tables are turned.According to the National Center on Elder Abuse, about two-thirds of all elder abuse perpetrators are exactly those whom the victim might have trusted most. Financially dependent spouses or adult children are the most likely to take advantage of the elder’s financial resources. Sadly, this is often due to alcohol and drug abuse.Dementia is a leading risk factor in all kinds of elder abuse, including financial exploitation. Even senior citizens who suffer from a milder form of cognitive impairment, not yet recognized or diagnosed, can be vulnerable.Elder law professionals are tremendous advocates for senior citizens who need to protect their resources, but the largely secretive and unreported nature of the crimes makes supporting the rights of t...

MFBA TBF Minnesota State Championship - Mississippi River
2011-10-24 14:50:00 This past weekend I fished the TBF Minnesota State Championship out of Wabasha, MN on the Mississippi River. I only had one day to practice which was the Sunday before. During practice, I found one good group of largemouth on Lake Pepin and a couple good groups of smallmouth down in the river on main channel rock and wing dams.On day 1 of the tournament with the wind conditions I had committed to the lake, but made a couple wing dams spots on the way. I caught small keeper smallmouth on a sand drop and had some short strikes on my favorite Yellow Magic popper. Enough time wasted, I headed to the lake. My first stop produced 2 short smallies on topwater. I then headed to my largemouth area, I quickly got a chunky bass on a Red Eye Shad. I then started working the area with my jig and got a fish close to 3lbs, then another good'un on Tube Craw and another on a Phenix vibrating jig. I let that spot rest, got another keeper largie on a mo...
NFL 2011-2012 Week 2 Preview: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Minnesota Vikings (-3)
2011-09-15 06:37:00 Online Betting Overview The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were beaten by the developing offensive juggernaut in the Detroit Lions in week one. The Bucs could have given up a lot more points in that game if it had not played better defense in the second half. The fact that the Buccaneers were able to identify the issues it was having defensively with the Lions and adjust at half time says a lot about the development of Tampa. The only problem for the Bucs was their inability to pick up points in the second half. The Detroit defense is aggressive and angry and it seemed to overwhelm the Tampa offensive line at times. The Minnesota defense is equally as aggressive, but the Vikings are more calculating on defense. They think about things a lot more than most other defenses do, and that may be a problem for Tampa. Even with a solid defense on the field, the NFL betting lines are still a little shaky in Minnesota because of the offense. As expected, running back Adrian Peterson was a domin...

NFL 2011 Preseason Week 4 Preview: Houston Texans @ Minnesota Vikings
2011-09-01 06:13:00 Online Betting Overview It is déjà vu all over again for the Houston Texans as many football experts are picking this to be the year that the Texans replace the Indianapolis Colts as the top team in the AFC South. Many of the same experts said the same thing last year and the Texans did not make the playoffs. The Colts are an easy target right now. They just lost pro bowl cornerback Bob Sanders to the Chargers and starting quarterback Peyton Manning may not be able to play in the first week or two of the regular season. But the Texans have a lot of areas to address before it can sit atop the AFC South and call itself a division champion. There are reasons why Houston missed the playoffs last year. Some of those reasons are being addressed in this preseason, but others are being glossed over. The Minnesota Vikings are probably Donovan McNabb?s last chance at being a starting quarterback in the NFL. His reputation took a beating in Washington when head coach Mike Shanahan continuall...

Minnesota Government Shuts Down
2011-07-07 09:28:00 From online.wsj.comMinnesota encountered its second government shutdown in six years on Friday as Democratic Gov. College Football 77 in 77: #77 Minnesota Golden Gophers
2011-06-17 22:16:00 At the 2010 Big Ten Tournament, I made a joke about how much I wanted to punch the University of Minnesota mascot, Goldy in the head. I'd love to watch his trademark head swivel around, except in this case put into motion by the force of a right-handed uppercut. Three days before the 2011 BTT, a fan did just that. So when I saw Goldy Gopher again in Indy, I gave him a hug and told him "I feel your pain." Because both the college football and the college basketball program have been dealt swift punches to the head this past year. No more reason to inflict additional pain- they have plenty enough in Dinkytown already. Before being fired,...

Northwestern has Victorious Senior Night; Defeat Minnesota 68-57
2011-03-03 05:15:00 The at-large bid chances are long gone for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. And it took another hit tonight. They were on the bubble until they hit a three games losing streak, all against Big Ten bubble teams (Michigan State Spartans, Michigan Wolverines, Penn State Nittany Lions). Now their path to a NCAA bid is the exact same as the Northwestern Wildcats- run the conference tournament table or else. Wednesday night provided a chance to see who, if either of the two teams, could be more likely to make that miracle run. And if league standings hold, they'll get the chance to eliminate one another on the very first day of the tournament, as they're slotted for the Thursday #8...

Hack a Gopher lets Minnesota beat Northwestern
2011-01-27 04:43:00 Last season Northwestern had a serious problem with fouling opponents. It seemed like that problem had been solved this season, but against Minnesota it resurfaced and was the key as the Gophers pulled out an 81-70 victory. It was like whack-a-mole, except it wasn't nearly as fun. Minnesota attempted 46 free throws and made 31. These weren't fouls caused by the Gophers' strong paint play either. Northwestern had a number of players hack a guy standing 30 feet away from the basket. While some of that was inflated by late-game fouls, a number of Northwestern's 31 personals occurred much earlier in the game. On the other hand, the Gophers committed 13 fouls leading to 11 Northwestern free throw attempts.Forced to earn their...
Two injuries play a big part in Northwestern vs. Minnesota
2011-01-26 05:39:00 There are two questions that are going to define Northwestern's game against Minnesota. 1) How healthy is John Shurna? 2) How will the Gophers deal with the injury to Al Nolen?Thankfully we have some help in answering these. Dan Hanner over at Yet Another Basketball Blog (or YABB) ran through a number of injury scenarios in hopes of discerning some magic about how injuries affect team play. What he's got are a lot of numbers that appear to be very specific to individuals and team systems. But, as luck would have it, two of the splits he's calculated are Northwestern with an injured Shurna and Minnesota without Nolen.Adjusted Efficiency Numbers:Northwestern with injured Shurna - 118.5 offense, 102 defenseMinnesota without Nolen...

Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings: Adam's Keys to Victory
2010-12-18 19:23:00 Getty Images As the Chicago Bears get set to take on the Minnesota Vikings at TCF Bank Stadium, on Monday Night Football, it will be the 100th time the two teams have met during the regular season. The Vikings, at 5-8, are mathematically out of playoff contention, and down to their third-string quarterback Joe Webb, who, presumably, will be starting the first game of his NFL career, on Monday Night Football no less. Webb's career stats, all come in a loss to the New York Giants where he was 2-of-5 passing for eight yards, including one carry for 16 yards. It will be the third time this season the Bears have faced a team's third-string QB....
Bears Preparing for TFC Bank Stadium, or the Minnesota Vikings?
2010-12-16 23:55:00 TCF Bank Stadium When you look at the Vikings' season as a whole, it's hard to imagine a team just one year shy of an NFC Championship game, spiraling out of control the way the Vikings have. At 5-8, down to their 3rd string quarterback and mathematically out of playoff contention, the Vikings are a mess. And some would suggest that they are just one game, against the Chicago Bears, away from a guaranteed losing season. I won't blame the Bears, or the players, for the media's coverage with regard to the issue of where Monday night's game would be held, or the fact (opinion) that the entire issue has been blown out of proportion. The concerns with TCF...

Minnesota Timberwolves Getting It Together?
2010-11-21 22:35:00 Minnesota Timberwolves were on a roll in Preseason, opening up their ensuing 6-2 record by beating the champs (Los Angeles Lakers) at the O2 arena in London. But every since their preseason ended, a lot has changed for the usual defects that goes on annually inside the Target Center. I'm talking about a lot of losing, a lot of pardoning on the part of the front office, a lot of youth being wasted, and fans not charging their attention to the action taking place on the floor during one time or another. Beforehand, I thought Minnesota had a fat chance somewhere in the hidden, waiting on a team led by both Michael Beasley's scoring-punch and Kevin Love's effort on the...

Illinois Actually Loses to Lowly 1-9 Minnesota
2010-11-13 23:33:00 So. I suppose that headline really says it all, doesn't it? I mean...what more is there to say when a team that was 1-9, 0-6 in the Big Ten, and had lost to a 1-AA team, comes into your house and beats you. Well, maybe there is one more thing to say: We're not going to a bowl game, folks. It wasn't funny today. I wish I could say that all the tweets I got after the result went final saying that this was the worst thing that could have happened today were understatements, but those tweets may be true. It feels like I just watched a funeral. And maybe I did...The funeral of the Illini bowl hopes. By...
Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings: 5 Keys to the Game
2010-11-11 18:31:00 The Bears host their division-rival-Vikings for the first of two meetings this season, Sunday, at noon. The 5-3 Bears enter the game, technically, a one point underdog to the 3-5 Vikings, and they will certainly use that as motivation. It's fair to say that this game is a must-win for both teams. The Vikings, while not mathematically out of the discussion, need to go on a run now if they intend to make the playoffs. The Bears, on the other hand, would likely need to win five of their next seven if they drop one to the Vikings on Sunday. On top of that, the Chicago Bears have never, in their 90 year history, made the playoffs when they...

This law is to help prevent spread of aquatic invasive species, particularly zebra mussels. I always do this, I think...
