The people voted by phone or internet like in American Idol and they had footage of the girls hanging out and doing beauty pageant things together. I don't watch these things, but it's obviously a sign of decline in popularity. Being on TLC doesn't help dispel this notion. There's a good essay in there somewhere I wish I had the time to write.
