Have you thought of your mobile translating words for you? Yes now Marathi words can be translated into English using a mobile phone. This service is now live and Marathi words can be translated into English via cellular text messages. This text message based mobile translation service was launched at the 85th 85th Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Sammelan in Chandrapur. This was conceived and created by Nashik-based Sunil Khandbahale and was made to target tier 2 and 3 cities where people are not much fluent with English language. This was another initiative by Khandbahale who already runs a web service that translate Indian regional languages into English and vice versa. Khandbahale says, “Since number of people using mobile phones are significantly high as compared those having access to the Internet, the service could be useful”. We have created a very easy-to-use and intuitive mobile site with all available payment options.“ The mobile site is not only intriguing but also helps users to book tickets, browse bus schedules, choose seat layouts, fares and also make payments using credit/debit cards, COD or net banking. India Post Launches Its New Mobile Money Order
2012-02-02 13:38:00
India Post has decided to unveil its new mobile money order service with a pan-India launch. Some months ago the news was out as India Post tied up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Linited (BSNL) to start the plan on the mobile money order service. BSNLwill be acting only as the technological partner and its not mandatory for users to be a user of BSNL. The plan ensures that there will selected post offices with mobile phones equipped with the application. Once the sender comes to these post offices to deposit money, they will need to give provider’s details. This in return they will get a 16 digit transfer code on his or her mobile and can then send the recipient with a SMS. Right now the services are available in two states- Bihar and Punjab given the fact that the number of immigrant workers are many. This information was revealed by Manjula Prasher, secretary (Posts), chairman of the postal services Board and director general of India Post while the National Postal Policy 2012...

Mobile Service Black Out As Spat Between Reliance & Etisalat Continue
2012-01-27 09:06:00
Around 1.7 Million Indians are suffering owing to the behavior of two Telecom Giants. Reliance Communication & Etisalat DB. Etilsalat’s customers are facing disruption of services since Friday owing to Reliance Communication disconnecting its services for the company. The Base Stations used by Etisalat are provided by Reliance under a US$ 2 billion, 10-year deal signed in 2009. However, citing long overdue payment for service, Reliance claims it was left with no other choice but to put a break on the tenant. Etisalat DB (EDB) is a joint venture between the United Arab Emirates’ Etisalat and India’s DB Group is not new to finding trouble. With 1.67 Million subscribers, Etisalat is ranked No. 11 in the Mobile Operators List in India for GSM. But owing to this week long disruption, we wonder how long will people wait, till they simply opt for Mobile Number Portability & hop on to someone who pays his dues & offers better service? We tried to analyze, what could have ...

Snapdeal.com Is Now Mobile! Late To The Party?
2012-01-24 07:45:00
Snapdeal.com is one India’s fast growing e-commerce sites. This growth is reflected in the amount of media spends that the company is currently doing. You must have seen the ‘YamDude’ ads on television. They are going all out to acquire more traditional customers rather than netizens. The company has now launched its mobile site which will help their customers to get all the exciting deals on the go. It should be kept in mind that this is not an app but WAP portal. As we all know that apps rule the roost on mobile then why would Snapdeal launch a mobile site? The rationale might be the fact that smart phones are not that prevalent in the country as of now and hence a WAP site has more advantages than an app for their TG. The most important advantage of the mobile site is the fact that it can work on any Internet enabled phone and hence can target more people than a standalone app for platforms like Blackberry. Android and iOS could. Some of the salient features of this WAP p...

Mobile VAS Is Huge Business, Confirms IAMAI. Are Mobile Companies Listening
2012-01-18 05:46:00
Value Added Services (VAS) will comprise a third of revenue generated for Mobile Telcos confirmed a report by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). IAMAI, which routinely offers eye-openers for the industry, has set another ball rolling for them with the revelation that Mobile VAS market in India could be a market worth Rs. 671 Billion by 2015. We tried to look at the claim & observed the following: It’s not how many, but what you offer, matters. While there are routine services like Caller tunes or Call-back tunes, the companies need to allocate resources to offer new & unique services to the customers. Topics such as security, medical assistance, one-click approach, education, etc are must, if these companies want to increase adoption of such services. Wackiness helps. Some companies like Vodafone have started offering Cooking Tips & Matrimonial leads though Value Added Services. Jokes, Stock market updates as passé. If one wants to really up the game i...

The Future Of Healthcare Via Smartphone’s: Mobile Health Care Anyone?
2012-01-18 05:44:00
The mobile phone has brought about a lot of changes. First it changed the way we communicate with others over telephones. It made the office wireless. Then with the waves of smart-phones launched, it added more and more functionality to the device. With always on 3G, Wireless Sensors, and Cameras added to the mobile phone, it began to get a lot of other uses. Mobiles began to be used for E-Commerce and have now become a separate branch called M-Commerce. They changed digital photography and videography. They changed the way Social Networks operate. They even changed the way we spend our spare time, with a myriad of apps and games available on most smartphone platforms. Mobile phones have another use-case: Mobile Health Care. The average person visits his doctor once or maybe twice a year for a general checkup. At that time, his doctor examines his Blood Pressure, Heart Rate and other variables. If, during the year, his heart rate was abnormal, the doctor has no way of knowing. This...

Mobile Ad Network Vserv Eyes Emerging Markets. To Open Operations In Singap
2012-01-13 09:30:00
Mumbai-based mobile ad network Vserv is planning to setup office in Singapore by February end. Adserv offers AdWrapper which comes in handy to insert advertisements into a developer’s mobile application. We had recently witnessed something similar for videos.  The platform is vital even for low end phones connected merely through GPRS  / EDGE & not the flailing 3G. The strength of Vserv’s AdWrapper lies in implementing ads without changing source code. Even more, the application offers free Ad mediation & House Ads along with exhaustive App analytics. Thus the business analysis is also taken care of automatically. No need to go to a third party. Presently, the company is active in the J2ME or java apps sphere. We think, this strategic growth could also fuel expansion in other platforms that are doing well. Why the urge for an Ad-Network agency to open a Brick and Mortar office? While Adserv may be doing quite well, the results of business development have been pas...

The Teledensity of the country now stands at 76.18%. Teledensity is the measure of the number of telephones in use for every 100 individuals living within an area. The increase in this particular quantity can be used a measure to define the development of the country. Normally developed countries have a teledensity of more than hundred which means phones outnumber people. Our Teledensity shows that we are inching closer to being a developed nation soon. This is a hope...

2012-01-06 12:39:00
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today announced a new twist to the Customer norms. It has mandated setting up a Toll-Free Number to address queries of mobile users irrespective of their service provider. In a move that will have a huge impact on how customers are dealt with by the service providers TRAI has also issued directives to setup a unified Customer complaint Center. Since tracking has never been a reality in mobile related complaints, TRAI has also asked Telcos to set up a web-based complaint monitoring system. Further, the service providers will also have to publish bulletins that will contain time frames specified by the authority for various complaints and various procedures related to services like Mobile Number portability (MNP), amount to be deducted, consumer’s rights etc. So how does it work? We feel, the coming year will witness a heavy growth of mobile computing. It has already begun very well. Despite poor hardware, Aakash sales have skyrocketed. With the aim of providing computers i.e. one-laptop-per-child, now moving to tablet wars, expect a massive surge in Tablet sale. Blackberry proved once again that Indians are a price-sensitive bunch by completely exhausting the Playbook stock once the price was halved. With 3G catching on, albeit slowly, & 4G just around the corner, high speed internet will be now readily available. Since, even trains & highways are now connected; we can expect people to work extensively even while traveling. People are now able to watch full length movies & download legal music on their phones & tablets. Hence even entertainment is gaining mobility. Wit...
