Mobiles Will Match PC’s Computing Power Within This Year: Qualcomm
2012-05-14 08:41:00 Mobile components maker Qualcomm, has claimed that smartphones will soon possess processing power that desktop computers had four-years ago. The company behind world’s widely used processors in mobile phones apparently is in direct competition with world’s largest computer chip maker Intel Inc. Currently, the fastest processor in a smartphone is Intel’s own, titled ‘Medfield’ found in Lava’s XOLO X900 which runs on Android OS. Though this processor is clocked at 1.6 GHz, it’s still a single core CPU. However, Qualcomm has plans to launch its new processors in single, dual and quad-core versions with integrated multi-mode technology to support 4G technology. In the computing world, the added number of cores process data more quickly & efficiently. However, the Operating Systems (OS) too must be built to support such multi-core processing. Hence OS makers like Blackberry, Android, have to re-tune their OSes to work with such multi-core processing power-horses. ...

Google Could Score A Cool $ 5.8 Billion From Mobiles Alone. Time To Shift F
2012-01-23 09:55:00 Google’s Ad revenue from Mobiles alone could come close to US$ 6 Billion reveals a new research from Cowen. Jim Friedland, an analyst with Cowen speculates that Google generates about US$ 7 per Phone and Tablet per year through the search and display advertising last year. These advertisements are displayed in mobile apps on both Android and iOS (iPhones and iPads) & also alongside search results. These analyses coincide with CEO Google Larry Page’s announcement last Thursday that “Google’s mobile ad revenues program was standing at a $5 billion annualized run-rate”. Joining the dots, we can see that Google hopes doubling of revenue from last year’s US$ 2.5 Billion to this year’s 5.8 Billion Dollars. Well, last year, the estimated total number of smart phones was pegged at 509 Million. This year the figure is expected to almost double at a whopping 914 Million by end of 2012. Payments From Mobiles Set For A Revival
2011-11-18 07:37:00 In the world of NFC based payments, Indians are still struggling to get the very old technology of Mobile-To-Mobile soft currency to stand on its feet. The progress is so slow that recently My Mobile Payments Ltd (MMPL), a Mumbai-based mobile payment service provider received the RBI’s approval to launch financial services on mobile phones. Aptly titled “Money on Mobile” (MoM), it is an Electronic Prepaid Payment instrument for mobile-phones & is expected to be launched next month. Challenging Google, MoM is basically an e-wallet or m-wallet. To use it, people have to first approach a top-up agent. MMPL has roped in Retailers and Kirana (grocery) stores across the country to act as “Loading Points”. These agents will take your hard cash & in-turn, press some digits, to convert it into mobile credits. These credits can be redeemed at any place that recognizes it. MMPL claims it has tied up with over 36,000 retailers across India and currently has a presence in ov...

2011-09-30 09:18:00 Yahoo is all set to implement a road map that aims at improving its service in India and snatching away market share from rivals. Yahoo has struggled to gain foothold in the country after losing out to Google and Microsoft. Not many people use Yahoo services, but Yahoo India is ready to change all that by introducing a plethora of new features. Just yesterday we reported that Yahoo unveiled the Flicker application for Android users. Flikr has been one of Yahoo’s safe bets as many appreciate and use the service. Over the years, a great number of features have also been added to Flicker to make it compete against Picasa and Facebook photos. Another great feature advanced search feature, Search Direct, that was launched earlier this year in the west, will be available to the Indian users early next year. Mobiles With High Speed Internet To Usurp Netbooks?
2010-09-23 15:04:00 What is the difference between a mobile phone and a laptop? While the answer was quite obvious some years ago, the lines that distinguish the two are wearing thin each day. The mobile phone is taking on the mantle of becoming the next generation computing device. The innovations in the field of technology are not as much on laptops and computers as on the mobile phone. The handheld device has come a long way from just being able to make a call to a complete gadget that takes on other tasks with ease. Talking about the internet, it has come a long way from dial up to broadband to wifi. Nowadays, you no longer need to sit on your laptop while juggling various other tasks. Internet on the mobile phone was introduced as GPRS in the early part of the last decade. Viewing stripped down versions of websites and that too with a slow speed was indeed unattractive. The only beneficiaries were sites delivering wallpapers, videos, sound clips, etc. Today, you can surf the internet on your phon...

According to the chart below by Nielsen ratings, 64% of the mobile social network users are below the age of 34 years. 2009-12-23 13:55:00 Imagine thinking of gifting your girl friend something that she loves, and immediately you recieve an SMS from a nearby gift shop who have amazing discounts at their store. Well, wishful thinking and a very premature strategy at this point of time where value-added services are looking to bag the front seat. Ybrant Digital might not have thought about a mind-based advertising, but they have certainly given it a thought for location-based advertising on mobile. In their tie-up with LiveVana Innovations and Lepton Software, Ybrant Digital has devised their innovation to offer a mobile advertising platform for mobile service providers. Advertisers and telcos using this platform will now be able to send ads and discount coupons to subscribers.Location-tracking technology will hence be used in mobile networks to target consumers with location-specific advertising on their mobile devices.
