Why Choose Modern Humanism?
2006-09-14 14:54:02
Modern Humanism is not simply an alternative to mainstream religious belief. Modern Humanism should be seen as an evolved and educated decision made by those who see the world as constantly growing and changing. As our society and culture evolve, so should our beliefs. Just as we no longer bleed people to treat their ills, we should no longer cling to beliefs that are neither designed for or appropriate for the modern world. Laws and rules and perspectives designed for Middle Eastern shepherds and nomadic tribes cannot hope to be applied to the modern world and modern life without adjustment. While those belief systems carry core philosophies and parables which can inspire and influence us as people, the specific tenets and proscriptions designed for the people they were written about and for are not likewise written for us. We all need purpose and direction. We need a reason to get up every morning and a passion to experience life. Philosophy and belief help us put life into a dige...
Atheism and Modern Humanism.

Atheism is a funny thing.  The mere mention of it can bring up a whole host of beliefs(especially interesting due to the fact that the very nature of Atheism is the rejection of a belief).  It is a term that is not only reviled but massively misunderstood by many, especially in the United States, which lists those of Atheistic persuasion at less than 2% of the population(removing Agnostics and the spiritual but not religious). Researchers found that Americans rank Atheists below gay and lesbian people, recent immigrants, Muslims and other minorities in “sharing their vision of American society.” That’s pretty interesting considering the massive furor over gay marriage and the so-called homosexual agenda, the huge national upheaval over immigratio...

A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship. The life or condition of a person in a religious order. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. Philosophy: Love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline. Investigation of the nature, causes, or principles of reality, knowledge, or values, based on l...
