It behooves GOP to understand nature of Ron Paul?s appeal
2012-01-27 00:45:00 If the eventual Republican nominee succeeds in making clear the libertarian nature of Reaganite conservatism — and runs on that platform, he could do as well among young voters as the Gipper did in the 1980s. Bear in mind that twenty somethings today as in the Reagan era seem to have a thing for septuagenarians ...

Scientists Hope Natural Herb Will Prove Effective Treatment For Alcoholism
2012-01-06 10:00:00 A tree that is native to China, the Hovenia dulcis, or Asian raisin tree, has been described to contain a hangover remedy since 659 AD. If you can fathom how long it's been in use, you may wonder why it's taken so long for modern research to study its potential as a treatment for alcohol addiction. Well, now a multi-disciplinary team from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) are actively studying its impact; first on rats....

GOP would be wise to understand nature of Ron Paul?s appeal
2012-01-04 18:41:00 Anticipating Ron Paul finishing ahead of Rick Santorum last night in Iowa, I had outlined a number of posts on the significance of the libertarian Republican’s strength. Despite his third place showing last night, the Texas Republican still has a strong following in the GOP and among unaffiliated voters. Last night in their commentary on ...

A Light Show to Beat All Light Shows
2012-01-01 06:27:00 Space.com senior writer Mike Wall reports that particles ejected by recent solar storms are due to slam into Earth over the next few days, possibly causing super-charged northern lights displays and temporary radio blackouts in some areas, experts say. Geomagnetic storms can also trigger dramatic aurora displays, which are also known as the northern and southern lights. So skywatchers at higher latitudes may want to look up after sunset over the next few days. You know I'll be outside looking up! In case you are not far enough north to be lucky enough to catch the aurora borealis, here is a different but no less amazing display of light to help start your New Year off on the right foot. : ) [Best viewed full-screen.] Okay, and I'm throwing this one in because it is just so darn cute! Happy New Year Everyone!

Endangered Lebanese Sea Turtles
2011-12-31 13:31:00 “Surveys of the Lebanese coast carried out showed only sparse turtle nesting on developed beaches on the north coast, with more significant sites in the south, notably on a 20 km stretch of coast near Tyre, which are important for both Mediterranean nesting species. Mansouri and Kolaila beach is among these. Uncontrolled exploitation of much of Lebanon?s coast for beach resorts, industry, residences and roads has largely confined turtle nesting to a few beaches in the south which are relatively undeveloped…” More from Orange House who make an effort to save the remaining turtle life in South Lebanon. They count them, observe the hatching and do more to save them. The project combined with a hotel facility try to add a meaning to the eco-tourism.

Polymer Shown To Rehabilitate Soil After A Wildfire
2011-12-26 10:00:00 Wildfires claim hundreds of thousands of farm acres yearly, causing famines and permanent devastation to the soil that produced the farmed crops. But a graduate student at Tel Aviv University (TAU), along with his supervising professors from TAU and the University of La Coruńa in Spain, has identified an anionic polymer polyacrylamide (PAM) that seems to enable reforestation more rapidly and less expensively than current methods.

Jörgen and Mattias walking for the freedom of press
2011-12-22 18:21:00 Lost in a thick forest in the mountains of Lebanon, we ran out of water. It was getting late, and we didn?t bring any artificial light with us. So, guided by the moonlight, we were looking for a dry place to put our head. We had put in eight hours of walking that day, probably in circles, and we were deadly tired. We could sleep anywhere. Groundbreaking Research Supports Calorie Reduction As Key To Healthy Aging
2011-12-20 10:00:00 It has long been known that calorie restricted diets have positive impacts on better mental and physical health, but now a team of researchers at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart in Rome have discovered the molecule that is triggered by caloric restriction. CREB1 is the molecule and, once activated, it triggers another group of molecules linked to longevity - the sirtuins.
Jųrgen and Matias to walk across Lebanon
2011-12-17 09:58:00 Getting from Beirut to Machta Hammoud, our starting point, was piece of cake. Three bus rides and we were there. The goal was to make it to El Qbaiyat before dark, but the rucksacks that felt so light when we tried them on at home, turned into led when we hit the road. After one hour we had to stop for a beer. That’s when we met Elias. He served us whiskey, and gave us a warm bed to sleep in. The next morning, with no proper map, no GPS and no compass, we embarked on a quest through the fog into the deep forrest. ? Matias and Jųrgen walk for the cause of peace and health, from north to south Lebanon. Click here to see the first episode or read more on their site.

2011-11-25 14:05:00 The Amber of Lebanon is extremely rich in its content of very well preserved fossils and its great geologic age which goes back to the era when the flowering flowers began to evolve. The Nature of Gravity
2011-10-31 17:42:00 It has occurred to me that the action of gravity is similar to the action of matter entering a black hole, in that there is force towards the center of an object, and that force increases with the size of the object, but velocity remains constant. It appears that any clump of matter has some sort of

Snorkel Fun at Steps Beach in Rincon
2011-08-15 03:00:00 Many people come to Puerto Rico and are surprised to find that there are not that many good snorkeling spots that you can access directly from the beach on the big island. If you go to the west coast in the summer, Tres Palmas Marine Reserve in Rincon offers great snorkeling at Steps Beach. We went recently and found a healthy forest of Elk Horn coral, along with a bunch of marine critters.Continue reading this article → Snorkel Fun at Steps Beach in Rincon Are you on Facebook? Childhood Memories
2011-08-14 07:37:00 Memories... Little treasures and traps that we collect over a lifetime. Longtime readers know that I've worked hard to help Cait focus on the treasures, as I try to do for myself. That's because, as a storyteller, I'm keenly aware of the power of the stories we tell ourselves about where we've been, who we are, and where we're going. Hence my desire to carry the treasures forward. One of my favorite early memories is of going to my Italian grandmother's house in the city. I'd scramble out of the car, rush to give my grandmother a hug and then run out into her walled backyard. It was filled with glorious wonders--a fish pond, a little orchard of plum trees heavy with fruit, a huge cherry tree that rained down so many cherries they carpeted the grass, and the heavenly-scented honeysuckle vines that covered the back wall. I thought of it as my own Secret Garden. Whether I was playing by myself or with siblings or cousins, I loved that I never had to stop to go inside to eat--...
Hike Las Bocas Canyon to Cascada Grande Waterfall

Hiking, Waterfalls and Rappelling in San Cristobal Canyon
2011-06-27 05:45:00 San Cristóbal Canyon has been named one of the top 10 Natural Wonders of Puerto Rico. With that high distinction, I needed to see it for myself. It is not the easiest place to get to (being at the bottom of a 500+ foot descent), so it does require some planning and, for best results, a guide! Montaña Explora, a family-run tour company, offers an extreme adventure that includes hiking and rappelling in the canyon. It was tough, but it was so worth the effort!Continue reading this article → Hiking, Waterfalls and Rappelling in San Cristobal Canyon Are you on Facebook? Northeast Ecological Corridor ? Beaches, Turtles and More
2011-06-13 01:00:00 The Northeast Ecological Corridor is a wonderful stretch of about 6½ miles of coastline, from Luquillo to Fajardo. We had never been in that area, so after some recent guests told us about the long walk they took along the beach there, we decided we needed to see it ourselves. It really is a wonderful, natural place.
