The largest changes were Australia increasing reserves by 100 tons (t) and Canada decreasing reserves by 70 t. Facebook's IPO Morality Tale: If The Green Shoes Fit, Wear Them?
2012-05-23 19:05:00 Facebook's reversal of fortunes in such a short span of time has played out almost like a modern-day morality tale. The fall-out of the social network post-IPO, after such an enthusiastic build-up was telling. While it lined the pockets of some (namely investment bankers), it deprived the 99 Percenters (or Dumb F*cks as Zuckerberg so adroitly labeled them back in 2004) full-disclosure, resulting in a subsequent short-fall on their FB investment.

MLPs = Good Returns in All Markets: Darren Schuringa
2012-05-22 22:03:00 The Energy Report: Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs) have really grown in the past few years. Why is that? Darren Schuringa: MLPs’ growth is really two fold. First, the sheer number of partnerships doing initial public offerings has accelerated. In 2000 there were 27 MLPs, and today there are 85 listed. The second half of the growth story is simply strong performance. The total returns of MLPs over the past five years have averaged 14.2% relative to the S&P 500, which has been flat to slightly down over that same period. Red Sox News & Notes - 5/22
2012-05-22 15:02:00 The Boston Red Sox have been at .500 once this season and that came on April 30th when they beat the Oakland A's to even up their record at 11-11. And after their offense and bullpen bailed out Clay Buchholz on Monday night in an 8-6 win over the Baltimore Orioles, they are now at .500 for the second time this season at 21-21. Since Josh Beckett's meltdown three starts ago which prompted a team-meeting the Red Sox are 9-2. The main reason for the run is that all three facets of the game have been clicking. Part of that equation was Buchholz who looked as though he had put his bad starts from early in the season in the past. It looked as though Buchholz would have a good game based on his first two innings. But after his team had given him a 2-0 lead in the 3rd, he promptly gave it back in the bottom half as he lost the command of his fastball. He allowed a leadoff single to Wilson Betemit then walked Nick Johnson. Red Sox killer Robert Andino then reached on a bunt single tha...

2012-05-21 16:39:00 Three starts ago, Josh Beckett was booed off the mound at Fenway Park and people were questioning his commitment to the Boston Red Sox given his comments after that start. He responded in his next start by throwing seven shutout innings. But one start does not mean things were completely better. I think after his latest start, we don't need to question Beckett about anything anymore. Beckett came out yesterday and threw seven more scoreless innings before being touched up for a run in the 8th. But with the Red Sox enjoying the lead, the bullpen finished off the 5-1 win to give the Red Sox their eighth win in their last 10 games. More importantly, they moved back to within one game of the .500 mark at 20-21. Why people are still asking about Beckett's velocity is beyond me. He's not 21 anymore and throwing gas like he used to be. He's now consistently in the 91-94 MPH range and when he had a changeup and nasty curveball yesterday, it really shouldn't matter how fast he throws. ...

2012-05-18 15:05:00 One of the players, indirectly or directly responsible depending on your point of view, who played a role in Wednesday night's loss for the Boston Red Sox to the Tampa Bay Rays, was a big reason why the Red Sox were winners on Thursday night. Obviously Clay Buchholz didn't balk in any runs last night so we are talking about Cody Ross. It was Ross who misjudged a fly ball the other night that allowed the Rays to get the winning run. On Thursday night, he was huge at the plate. After falling behind 0-2 with the bases loaded in the 1st inning against Rays starter Matt Moore, Ross got the count in his favor and eventually worked in a walk to force in a run. In the 3rd inning, his home run put the Red Sox up 3-0 after Marlon Byrd had homered in the 2nd to make it 2-0. And with the Red Sox holding on to a 3-2 lead in the 8th, Ross knocked in two runs with a single to give them a little more breathing room. It turned out they would need those two runs. 2012-05-17 15:02:00 Two mental errors, a balk by Clay Buchholz and a misplayed fly ball in right by Cody Ross, plus some good Tampa Bay Rays pitching was the difference for the Boston Red Sox in their 2-1 loss last night. We all know that Buchholz has this fascination with throwing over to first base when runners are on base. With runners on first and third in the 2nd inning, Buchholz double clutched his pickoff throw to first base and a balk was called forcing in Carlos Pena from third with the game's first run. Buchholz did get out of the inning by striking out Jose Molina. The 6th inning proved to be the deciding factor in this game. Matthew Joyce led off the inning with a single that went off the heel of Buchholz. Pena followed that with a single and Red Sox skipper Bobby Valentine had seen enough and summoned Andrew Miller from the bullpen. Red Sox News & Notes - 5/16
2012-05-16 16:22:00 When Josh Beckett last walked off the mound at Fenway Park, the Fenway Faithful let him know what they thought of his pitching performance that night. After that start last Thursday, he then watched the other four fellow starters all put up quality starts and picking up the wins. So on his 32nd birthday and the way starters compete with each other plus the way he was perceived after his last outing, you just knew Beckett would come out and silence his critics. And he did exactly just that as he dominated the Mariners lineup for seven innings in a 5-0 win for the home team. He allowed four hits, all of which were singles, and two walks while striking out a season-high nine. Beckett threw just 93 pitches, getting 11 swings-and-misses. His fastball velocity got as high as 94 MPH but he was consistently around 92-93 with great command and location on it. He also mixed in his curveball and cutter along with a nasty changeup. What Lies Ahead for Junior E&Ps: Bruce Edgelow
2012-05-15 22:00:00 The Energy Report: Bruce, what major changes do you see under way for junior explorers and producers (E&Ps)? Bruce Edgelow: Juniors have begun to transition from drilling moderately priced individual vertical wells to drilling much more capital-intensive resource plays. For example, in 2000 the cost to drill and complete one well in Pembina was ~$330,000. By 2010, the cost had ballooned to ~$2.75 million (M) due to horizontal drilling and more complex completion techniques. This trend is expected to continue as resource plays become increasingly dominant and as larger budgets, bigger … [visit site to read . . . → Read More: What Lies Ahead for Junior E&Ps: Bruce Edgelow

Red Sox News & Notes - 5/15
2012-05-15 14:02:00 Jon Lester had made two starts at Fenway Park in 2012. And he hadn't fared too well in them going 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA (10 ER/8 IP). That all changed on Monday night against the Seattle Mariners as the offense backed up his 119 pitch complete game effort in a 6-1 win. For one, he was the first Red Sox starting pitcher to make it into the 9th inning let alone pitch a complete game. And he did it looking like a version of his former younger self. He had great command and location on all of his pitches. He had gotten in trouble in previous starts when he got cutter happy. He barely broke out the cutter, instead relying on on his fastball, curve and changeup. Obviously all of his pitches were outstanding but his curve was second to none last night. With all of his pitches, he got 14 swing and misses. Lester had great life on his fastball as he kept it consistently at 93-94 the entire night. He set down the first 11 batters he faced before Ichiro Suzuki reached base on an infield sin...
