Urban Meyer Is Ohio State?s New Head Coach
2011-11-29 10:27:00
Urban Meyer’s introduced as Ohio State’s new head coach. Urban Meyer’s apparently gotten over the idea that his heart is too weak to lead a football team because as of this writing he’s the new head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Regardless of whatever issues about his ticker remain, there’s no doubt but that (Read More...)

Ohio State NCAA Scandal: What's New? And What About High School Sports
2011-06-04 19:17:00
Ohio State NCAA Scandal: What's New? And What About High School Sports? If anyone thinks the scandal surrounding Jim Tressel and Ohio State is limited - think again. The NCAA is all about M-O-N-E-Y! While most high school graduates go to college to achieve the necessary credentials to compete in our ultra-competitive global work force, others will go for no other reason than to develop their professional sports market value.
Jim Tressel Leaves Ohio State
2011-05-30 15:53:00
Ohio State head football coach Jim Tressel has, officially, resigned. He will not coach a single game at the university after their bowl game appearance in January. I know I heard that news somewhere before......
Bulls Backup Center Rumored to be Dating Miss Ohio
2011-05-13 18:37:00
Chicago Bulls backup big man Omer Asik is dating Miss Ohio...that's the rumor. Miss Ohio Lindsay Davis who is an American model who has been internationally published in magazines such as Ralph and FHM. The 5'4" Lakewood native was crowned Miss Ohio U.S. International in 2010, and was also a finalist in the Miss Ohio USA pageant for both 2010 and 2011....
#1 Ohio State Beats Talor Battle and Penn State in Big Ten Championship
2011-03-14 00:14:00
The surprising Penn State Nittany Lions stuck around for as long as they could, but the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes proved to be too much to handle in a 71-60 win for their third Big Ten Tournament Championship in the last five years. William Buford led the way with 18 for the Buckeyes and Talor Battle paced the Nittany Lions with 24 points on 9-of-20 shooting....
#1 Ohio State takes down Northwestern
2011-03-11 20:07:00
By the end of overtime Northwestern was down to six healthy scholarship players. Jared Sullinger had already managed to foul out Davide Curletti and Luka Mirkovic and it was left up to John Shurna to try and tame Ohio State's 6'9 man-child. Unfortunately, everything Shurna did seemed constitute a foul in the eyes of the referees and Sullinger managed to finish off the Buckeyes' 67-61 victory in overtime. It's not that Northwestern didn't get a few calls, because the Wildcats certainly did. Alex Marcotullio's three was probably after the shot clock expired, but it was a frustrating end nonetheless. Once again Bill Carmody's team took Ohio State to the final buzzer, and once again they came up just short....
Northwestern Almost Gives #1 Ohio State the Boot from Big Ten Tournament
2011-03-11 19:11:00
Earlier this college basketball season, NU took the #1 (and then undefeated) Ohio State Buckeyes down to the final minute, and lost by just one in Evanston. And today the Wildcats had a lead on the #1 in both polls Buckeyes, but couldn't close the deal. They lost 58-57, despite out-rebounding the Bucks by eleven. A day after Northwestern senior Juice Thompson put the point in point guard (breaking the Big Ten Tournament single game points record, the offense was stuck in neutral. Still, they once again took the #1 Buckeyes to the brink.  Some of the scoring decline was to be expected given the shift in style of play, but a lot of the problems came from failing to...
Living life as the undead in "Zombie, Ohio"
2011-02-18 03:50:00
Scott Kenemore is a local writer (he lives in Logan Square) who has quite a thing for zombies. He is described as a "zombie expert" and has spoken on the subject on The Fox New Channel, the Alan Colmes Show & Martha Stewart Living Radio among other media outlets. His newest book, "Zombie, Ohio" chronicles the story of Peter Mellor, a college professor who discovers that he has been the victim of a murder plot and turned into -- you guessed it -- a zombie.  What follows is a clever narrative that takes place inside the mind of a man who is slowly being transformed into one of the living dead.Scott took some time from promoting his new book to talk...
Northwestern falls to #1 Ohio State
2011-01-30 02:44:00
So close, yet so far. That's going to be the story of the Northwestern season in 2010-11. Once again the Wildcats had a chance for a breakthrough victory and they fell just short. Ohio State's Jared Sullinger hit a free throw after Northwestern was unable to get a shot up on their final full possession and the Buckeyes escaped with a 58-57 victory.Northwestern's (13-8, 3-7) final chance came on a 40-foot heave by Drew Crawford, but it will be the second-to-last opportunity the Wildcats had that Bill Carmody and Alex Marcotullio will keep wishing they could've had back. Marcotullio thought he had a back door lay up to JerShon Cobb, but David Lighty swiped the ball away and Ohio State...
Northwestern ALMOST GIves #1 Ohio State their First Loss
2011-01-30 02:24:00
Well, it's going to happen sometime. Just not tonight. I'm speaking of course about the #1 team in all of college basketball, the Ohio State Buckeyes finally losing a game at some point this season. Heading to Northwestern seemed like a cakewalk for the Bucks as the Wildcats have suffered two awful losses already to the Illini and Wisconsin. And they would be sans their best player in John Shurna. But it didn't end that way. NU took the lead on more than one occasion late in the first half, and trailed by just two at intermission. Perhaps most stunning was the fact NU had +6 rebounding margin for the first 20 minutes. Apparently, Thad Matta's halftime speech wasn't...
Live: Northwestern vs. Ohio State
2011-01-29 23:35:00
No John Shurna, NCAA Tournament hopes dwindling, the #1 team in the nation, Ohio State, in town. Pretty depressing times to be Northwestern right now. That said, maybe the Wildcats can make things interesting. Check it all out here and come talk about the season, polls, etc. tonight. The game is on ESPN2!...
Can #1 Ohio State Go Undefeated this Season?
2011-01-29 17:48:00
Tuesday night's game between top-ranked Ohio State and No. 12 Purdue - freshman phenom Jared Sullinger vs. the Moore/Johnson combo - had the makings for a classic Big Ten battle. Instead, it was a one-sided affair in favor of the Buckeyes as they embarrassed the Boilermakers 87-64....
#1 Ohio State Sings Along with Miley Cyrus (Music Video)
2011-01-23 16:43:00
Some artistic endeavors are beyond explanation; if you call this art. Or Miley Cyrus' original song "art" for that matter. However, when you're undefeated and I the #1 team in college basketball, I guess you're allowed to get away with stuff like this. Behold the Ohio State Buckeyes singing "Party in the U.S.A." It's a song that OSU freshmen phenoms Aaron Craft (the first player appearing in the video) and Jared Sullinger mess around with from time to time. Fresh off the Buckeyes come from behind victory over the #22 Illini, caught up to Craft on the Assembly Hall court and asked him all about it; specifically if fans of their opponents heckle him and his teammates by bringing...
Illini Second Half Choke vs. Ohio State Not Shocking
2011-01-23 05:43:00
There wasn't much you could say about the Illini and their fall to top-ranked Ohio State on Saturday afternoon. It was certainly disappointing. It was certainly a let down after building a lead. The one thing you really can't call it, and we all know it deep down inside, was all that surprising....
#1 Ohio State Stays Unbeaten; Survives Illini in Champaign
2011-01-22 23:40:00
To paraphrase Dean Martin's timeless lyrics and apply them to college basketball: "Everybody loses a ballgame sometime, everybody gets defeated somehow." And on paper, it appeared Ohio State's trip to Assembly Hall meant "that sometime was now." We know that OSU is the #1 team in the Big Ten (after all, they're #1 in nation), but many experts (including ESPN's Dan Dakich) believe Illinois to be the second best team in the conference. So it makes sense that a road game against the Illini would logically be the hardest game left on the Buckeyes' schedule....
Rapid Reaction: Ohio State 73, Illinois 68
2011-01-22 22:02:00
It's the return of the sad Illini face, boys and girls. The Illinois Fighting Illini suffered their first home loss of the season on Saturday, taken down by the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes 73-68. Dubious officiating, unfortunate bounces and, most importantly of all, terrible shooting plagued the Illini all game and ultimately led to their demise....
Ohio State vs. Illinois Hoops: Will Karma End A Good Run?
2011-01-22 16:06:00
No. 1 Ohio State will travel to play the Fighting Ilini on Saturday. It was six years ago that the shoe was on the other foot: Illinois was undefeated but lost their perfect season against the Buckeyes. Will today be a case of what goes around, comes around?
Ohio State to assume #1 Position in College Hoops Polls
2011-01-17 02:07:00
The great American poet Cornell Haynes once posed this existential query: "What does it take to be #1, two is not a winner, and three nobody remembers." In slightly more recent history, another local wordsmith named Kanye West stated "number one can't put nothing above that. You deserve a verse from me, we're going to party like it's our anniversary." Today, the Ohio State Buckeyes, among favorites to win the Big Ten, now looking like serious contenders for a national title, are living these lyrics. With the Florida State upset over Duke, the polls will later today deem the Buckeyes the new rulers of college basketball....
Losing night for Chicago in Ohio
2010-12-31 03:38:00
Whether it's a close loss or a blowout the result is the same - a loss. Both UIC and Loyola suffered tough defeats on Thursday night in Ohio.UIC dropped a 71-69 game at Youngstown State. It was another one that came down to a last-second play and unfortunately the Flames weren't able to make them all down the stretch. While Paul Carter hit a clutch jump shot to give UIC a 69-68 lead, the Penguins got two points from Vytas Sulskis free throws and Robo Kreps couldn't make a floater on the Flames' last real chance. This continues a disturbing trend for the Flames, who already had suffered close losses to Akron, Valparaio and Northern Illinois. While Howard Moore's team did...

Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith Discredits Jim Tressel Rumors
2010-12-26 03:16:00
Tis the season for rumors and innuendo! Hark the herald bloggers sing of what could be, might be but probably isn't. Earlier today, according to Chicago Now's Daily Sports Tab two sources that are very close to recruiting at prominent universities confirmed that Jim Tressel will no longer be the head football coach at Ohio State University after the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas. Despite Tressel's phenomenal record in Columbus (well, his record vs. everyone not in the SEC anyway) this story was believable considering that 1.) The number one public relations rule for releasing "bad news," do it at times when most people are likely to distracted by the weekend 2.) Big changes like this often occur at times of crisis...
Jim Tressel Leaving Ohio State
2010-12-25 22:01:00
On Christmas Day, two sources that are very close to recruiting at prominent universities confirmed that Jim Tressel will no longer be the head football coach at Ohio State University after the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas. Ohio State was rocked by the suspensions of five key players, including top running back Dan "Boom" Herron and Heisman-hopeful quarterback Terrelle Pryor, for the first five games of the 2011 season earlier this week. The sources indicated that Buckeye recruits have been informed that Tressel will not be back as coach, and have been allowed to look for other options....
Quarterback Terrelle Pryor & Four Other Ohio State Buckeyes Suspended B
2010-12-24 18:33:00
So you want another example of how $$$$ have corrupted the deeper meanings that once brought pride to those who achieved great things in sports? How one's sense of value and perspective get bent out of shape when financial rewards take precedence over expectations and "rules" of the game. You don't have to look any further than today's ESPN report of Terrelle Pryor...

Ohio State Suspends Pryor, Additional Players for 2011 Games
2010-12-23 19:34:00
Ohio State suspends QB Terrelle Pryror and additional players for five 2011 games.
It's Probably a Good Idea for Ohio State to Limit Terrelle Pryor'
2010-12-16 01:49:00
When you're named Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year not once, but twice and yet still uninvited to Big Ten Media Day on both occasions, it really says something about your University's interest in having you talk with the press. Such is the case with Ohio State Buckeyes QB Terrelle Pryor. And despite all the substantial efforts by Ohio State marketing and public relations professionals to limit Pryor's access and/or augment his public persona, he's still getting as much publicity from his verbal gaffes as he is from his play on the college football field....
When Ohio Mascots Attack II: Cincinnati Bearcat Arrested for Disorderly Con
2010-12-05 09:08:00
What the hell is going on with mascots in the state of Ohio? Especially those named "B___cat." Remarkable coincidence, back in week three of the college football season, Brutus, Ohio State Buckeyes' mascot was viciously attacked by the Ohio Bobcat mascot. It was a classic moment, and now the University of Cincinnati mascot has been arrested for snowing snowballs at fans during the Cincinnati's blowout at the hands of Pittsburgh. The Bearcat got removed from the game by security, much like the Bobcat mascot. Except he allegedly resisted his dismissal, and was therefore arrested. Judging by what happened last time, this is soon to be a media sensation. Hey guys, whatever happened to just making the crowd life and...
Ohio State Brutalizes Michigan in Football Portion of Border War Weekend
2010-11-27 23:51:00
Assuming that it was planned and not just coincidence, "Michigan-Ohio Sports Rivalry Weekend" is a very clever and exceedingly marketable idea. I'm referring of course to the Detroit Red Wings defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets on the eve of THE GAME (In which the Michigan Wolverines were crushed by the Ohio State Buckeyes) in college football. The only similar set up coming to mind is the annual November clash Florida St. and Florida used to have, where the college basketball teams play each other on Friday night and college football on Saturday. Of course, given the varying schedules of the leagues involved, it would be hard to pull this off every year. The Wings took the NHL portion of the...
Red Wings Take Hockey Portion of Michigan-Ohio Rivalry Weekend

Assuming that it was planned and not just coincidence, "Michigan-Ohio Sports Rivalry Weekend" is a very clever and exceedingly marketable idea. I'm referring of course to the Detroit Red Wings visiting the Columbus Blue Jackets on the eve of THE GAME (Michigan Wolverines vs. Ohio State Buckeyes) at "The Horsehoe" of college football. The only similar set u coming to mind is the annual November clash Florida St. and Florida used to have, where the college basketball teams play each other on Friday night and college football on Saturday. Of course, given the varying schedules of the leagues involved, it would be hard to pull this off every year. The Wings took the NHL portion of the doubleheader, a critical...
Michigan-#9 Ohio State: Brutally Honest Preview of THE GAME
2010-11-26 17:22:00
This week is rivalry week in college football. That means you get a lot of awesome games with cool names like "The Iron Bowl" (Alabama-Auburn) and "The Holy War" (BYU-Utah). But only one of these rivalry games can claim an actual war in the history of the geographic region it covers. That's the Michigan Wolverines vs. the Ohio State Buckeyes, or "THE GAME," as it's called. There's a reason ESPN Classic ran a marathon of past tOSU-UM games on Thanksgiving. (Well, maybe two rivalries can claim actual battles: also Kansas-Mizzou, as they had the abolitionist vs. slave state skirmishes known as "Bleeding Kansas," in the 1850s.) Anyways, this game doesn't have the #1 vs. #2 hype that it had...

Troy Smith To Ted Ginn - Ohio State Fuels SF 49er (Niners) Offense
2010-10-27 20:00:00
Get ready for Troy Smith To Ted Ginn as the Ohio State friends and former teammates are paired again. San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Mike Singletary announced that Quaterback Troy Smith, the former Baltimore Ravens Quarterback, traded to the 49ers September 6th, 2010, will get the start in London against the Denver Broncos. The reason is that Niners Starting QB Alex Smith is recovering from a shoulder injury and backup David Carr just plain sucked against the Carolina Panthers. Smith, the 2006 Heisman Trophy winner, played with QB Kyle Boller in Baltimore and some fans wanted him to start in place of Boller. Troy is known for his speed, intellect, and leadership, but never got the break he needed to show he could be "the man" at quarterback. Perhaps this is just that. The problem for Troy Smith and Ted Ginn is one that plagues the San Francisco 49ers overall and that's lack of discipline. The 49ers under Coach Singletary have players not looking when the ball's thrown ...
Robo-Signing Victims: Sandusky, Ohio Woman Sues Bank of America
2010-10-26 01:54:00
A Sandusky, Ohio woman, Rhonda D. McLaughlin, filed a lawsuit on October 20, 2010 concerning the “robo-signing” fiasco that has lambasted Americans since the scandal began. McLaughlin claims that the foreclosure on her North Larchmont Drive home was instigated by the process of robo-signing, in which bank employees did not review the documents of foreclosure before they were signed. The lawsuit was filed against Rhonda Weston, a Vice President of Bank of America and Bank of America, N.A. itself. Other defendants in the lawsuit include Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray and Fannie Mae. McLaughlin’s attorney is Dan McGookey, a Sandusky attorney who is a specialist in foreclosures. McGookey made it clear that he thinks that this lawsuit may be only the first time one of these lawsuits have been filed in the United States concerning a private citizen to undo a foreclosure that is already completed. In 2007, Bank of America foreclosed on McLaughlin’s former...
Polls, Ohio State Realize #2 is not a Winner, #3 Nobody Remembers
2010-10-11 02:33:00
The great American poet Cornell Haynes once posed this existential query: "What does it take to be #1, two is not a winner, and three nobody remembers." In slightly more recent history, another local wordsmith named Kanye West stated "number one can't put nothing above that. You deserve a verse from me, we're going to party like it's our anniversary." Today, the Ohio State Buckeyes, favorites to win the Big Ten and contend for a national title, are living these lyrics. With the South Carolina upset over Alabama, the polls have deemed the Buckeyes the new rulers of college football. OSU fans, I hope you run these two rap references into the ground, exactly like I did in 2004-05...
Ohio State Experiences the Healing Power of the Indiana Hoosiers
2010-10-10 13:37:00
Going into the Indiana game, the Ohio State Buckeyes had plenty to worry about. How would the Buckeye's banged up secondary hold up against Ben Chappell and the Hoosier's prolific passing attack? How much would Terrelle Pryor's thigh injury inhibit an Ohio State offense that has relied on his explosive runs when their backs were against the wall? But what seemed like threats from the Hoosier squad at kickoff turned into the perfect treatment for Ohio State to smooth out their rough edges. By Hans Hetrick...
Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State well Represented in NHL
2010-10-07 22:52:00
You know what today is? Hockey's opening day, and with it time to break down all the team's rosters. In all, 57 former CCHA players are on NHL opening-day rosters. Michigan leads the way with 15, followed by Michigan State with 11. Six Ohio State Buckeyes are on NHL opening-day rosters, ranking third among CCHA schools. So the Big Ten is definitely in the hizouse here. Four NHL regulars from 2009-10 return to their squads for the new year - R.J. Umberger in Columbus, Dave Steckel in Washington, Ryan Kesler in Vancouver and Rod Pelley in New Jersey. Zac Dalpe, who left Ohio State in the spring after two seasons, earned a spot in Carolina's lineup after his first...
Did Ron Zook Cost Illinois the Ohio State Game?
2010-10-03 00:25:00
Is there any more activity over at fireronzook.com? After Saturday's "moral victory" loss against #2-ranked Ohio State, it definitely should be. While the Illini were not expected to be close, and weren't supposed to win the game, they were driving to tie late in the game, and had a chance to completely turn the college football world on its ear. That's when Zook gagged on his headset mic....

#2 Ohio State-Illinois: the Brutally Honest Game Preview
2010-09-30 16:58:00
The last three times Illinois beat Ohio State: 2007, 2001, 1999, it was in Columbus. For some reason, the Illini play the Buckeyes much better in the Buckeye state than they do at home. The last time they beat Ohio State in Champaign, Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer were at the peak of their popularity. Whenever Illinois is having a good season, they seem to beat the Buckeyes, as they have a 9-11 record against OSU dating back to 1988. Only Michigan has more victories over Ohio State during the span, posting an 11-10-1 record. However, this year is not a (as 50 Cent would say) "Champagne Campaign." There is one thing Illinois can claim over #2 OSU- a...
Ohio Bobcat Mascot Attacks Brutus the Buckeye, Gets Dismissed from the Prog
2010-09-21 01:33:00
If Ace Ventura: Pet Detective taught us anything, it's that violence against mascots is hilarious! I did a lot of tweeting last year during the Big Ten Tournament last March, and people seemed to enjoy the idea of punching Goldy the Gopher in the head. But sometimes it's not a laughing matter, and people get hurt. This is not one of those times, but this situation is a little more serious than the term "mascot-on-mascot violence" might imply. Before Ohio State absolutely pummeled and destroyed Ohio University 43-7 on Saturday, the Ohio Bobcat mascot pummeled an unsuspecting Brutus the Buckeye in the Ohio Stadium end zone. If only the Bobcat players could tackle with such ferocity. I guess the...
Ohio State Buckeyes: 2002 vs. 2010 Comparisons
2010-09-11 20:32:00
With The Ohio State University facing the University of Miami for the first time since the 2003 BCS National Championship game, the Buckeye nation has been infused with sweet nostalgic daydreams of the Buckeyes' magical 2002 National Championship team. They were a fearless, tenacious, strong-willed bunch. And while they walked a tight rope over the abyss of defeat weekly, they were easy to love and harder to forget....
Miami game extra special for Ohio State's Brian Rolle
2010-09-11 20:20:00
When No. 2 Ohio State hosts No. 12 Miami today, it will no doubt be one HUGE college football game. But for one Buckeye, 5-11, 218 pound senior linebacker Brian Rolle, this specific contest will be extra special. Rolle is a native of Immokalee, Fla., in the southern part of the state. And his cousin Antrel Rolle was an All-American corner for the Miami Hurricanes. And yes, Antrel did play against the Buckeyes in that classic 2003 Fiesta Bowl. Given this background, Brian Rolle obviously grew up a Miami Hurricanes fan. "That's the only place I thought about going, I never even thought about being recruited, I just said I'm going to Miami," Rolle told me last Saturday. Unfortunately,...
Ohio State-Miami: 2003 All Over Again...Sort Of
2010-09-10 21:17:00
12 National Titles. 9 Heismans. 113 Consensus All-Americans.  81 players  currently on NFL rosters. Ray Lewis. Cris Carter. Michael Irvin. Jack Tatum. Warren Sapp. Orlando Pace. Jim Kelly. Eddie George. Bernie Kosar. Archie Griffin. A lot of history will be swirling around Ohio Stadium this Saturday when the University of Miami Hurricanes (the U) and The Ohio State Buckeyes take the field. If it's anything like the last time these two storied college football programs crashed into each other, the 2003 Tostito's Fiesta Bowl BCS National Championship Game, there will be multitudes of fans on the edge of barstools and sofas wringing their hands, pulling their hair, and shouting at televisions.
