London: Israeli Sniper Awarded Silver
2012-04-23 22:19:00 London: Israeli Sniper Awarded Silver: Yes, it would have been glorious if Sergey Richter secured the gold, but either way earning the silver metal is quite a feat in my honest opinion. Richter scored 597 points out of a possible 600 in the early 10-meter air rifle standing competition. But after scoring a perfect 100 points in his first two final sets, he missed a shot and scored 99 points in the third. His fourth set was perfect, but his fifth left him at a disadvantage. Still, once in the finales Richter was able to add 104.1 points to his score and win the silver medal. (Ynet News) For those wondering, Edmond Piasecki from France won the gold. Ynet does mention a few other Israeli?s who also competed (although none scored as high as Richter).

2012-04-04 00:22:00 An Israeli sniper is attempting to win the gold in this year?s 2012 Olympics (which are being held in London). Sergey Richter has come a long way in his journey, and has even convinced fans to help raise funds online (hat tip: Life in Israel) when government funds were unable to cover most of his expenses. Hopefully he is able to secure the gold for Israel, although I have a feeling if he does he will end up training a few good men (and women) in the Israel Defense Forces. ;-)

London Hotels during the Olympics? Consider hostels and camping!
2012-03-27 16:31:00 By Tom Meyers— Finding affordable hotels in London during this summer’s Olympic games is turning into a sport itself, as many hotels are pumping up their rates 100 percent or more during the event, which takes place July 27 – August 12, 2012. All is not lost for Olympic-bound Cheapos, however. Here are a few suggestions for cheap-ish places to sleep in London during the summer games: Bunk it at the Clink. Youth hostels If you don’t mind sleeping in a dorm room with other visitors, there are several hostels in London that still show availability during the game dates. The Generator Hostel, which boasts a party-vibe (complete with bouncer and thumping music) and a Bloomsbury location, still has dorm rooms available for $70, and private quad rooms (with shared bath) for a not-so-cheapo $314. These rates are for August 1-3, 2012, and are about twice what they cost for the first week in July. The Clink 261, located near the Generator in the King’s Cross neighbor...

Golf opportunity of Olympic proportions
2011-03-28 18:54:00 The LPGA is preparing for the most-important unofficial, small-field, two-round golf tournament anywhere in the world. The HSBC LPGA Brasil Cup is just one ingredient in the recipe that can make the sport’s return to the Olympics a success. Tim Maitland reports. Angela Stanford at 2010 LPGA Brasil Cup A 27-player, two-day tournament is not normally associated with the start of something big in the wide world of golf, but the HSBC LPGA Brasil Cup could be the veritable small acorn from which a giant oak tree grows. Prize money of just US $720,000 might not seem much, but the event is the closest thing to a fully-fledged global tournament in the nation that will provide the stage for golf’s re-entry into the Olympics in 2016. As America’s leading female golfer Cristie Kerr put it when she committed to making her first trip into South America, the Olympics is “the biggest single opportunity that women’s golf has...
2012 London Olympics: "Game On" Says David Howman, World Anti-Do
2011-03-02 14:00:00 Looks like WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) is getting down to business as they strike a "landmark agreement" with the UK Border Agency regarding the trafficking of performance-enhancing drugs. They are going to "share information" as the two agencies have discovered that the same individuals dealing illegal recreational drugs have their hands all over the performance-enhancing drug market. That's the focus in Jacquelin Magnay's recent article, "2012 London Olympics: Landmark deal for war on drugs," at The Telegraph (telegraph.co.uk). In a comparable Australian agreement, sports suspensions for drugs:

He has performed admirably for seven years for the Cleveland Franchise. ...

Now THIS Is What the Vancouver Olympics Are Missing...
2010-02-19 15:35:00 I'm an unabashed Olympics fan. I cry when people win, I cry when people fail, I cry at the overworked stories of kids growing up homeless and penniless on the slopes of Vermont with just a pair of skis and a dream. From the figure skating, hockey and half-pipe to the surprisingly enthralling curling competition, I'm hooked. There are people, however, who think these Vancouver games are a snooze. There are those who complain about the lack of suspense in tape-delayed events and those who want more action, fewer heart-wrenching stories told with a soft focus lens. This clip, my friends, is for all of us. The lovers, the haters, even the Canadians. Back in 1992, Ski Ballet may have...
Shani Davis: "I wouldn't change a thing about the winter Olympics
2010-02-18 07:48:00 Chicagoan Shani Davis contributed to America's medal count Wednesday with a gold in the 1,000m speedskating race. "I didn't wear my Sox hat today," he said. Davis was among six Americans to medal in today's Olympic competition with his winning time of 1 min 8.94 seconds, becoming the first man to win back-to-back 1,000-metre Olympic speedskating gold medals.""I am always trying to be really cool and calm," Davis said of his winning time in a press conference Wednesday, "but I was really peeping those times tonight."Davis spoke to how these Games will help the perception of speedskating, and how the sport is going to grow because of how much attention there is on the Games in Vancouver. "It has an instant effect,"...

(saw it last night) Shani Davis: from South Side of Chicago who credits...
Cold And Bumpy Road So Far For Vancouver 2010 Olympics....
2010-02-17 01:32:00 To me the things that always stand out about any Olympics is normally the pageantry and desire and heart of the athletes during competition all simply to hear their national anthem played with a medal around their neck. The Vancouver games of 2010 are not off to such a majestic start. Between no snow, pillar malfunctions, problems making ice, top name athletes dropping out of competition and a death......It's been a rough start of the Winter Olympiad....
Team Canada Defeats the USA In the Chicago Blackhawks' Mini-Olympics
2010-02-15 20:51:00 Photo Courtesy of Blackhawks Blog (http://nhlblackhawks.wordpress-.com/)Sunday night after the Blackhawks' 5-4 shootout victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets, the second episode of "Blackhawks TV" aired on WGN. One of the highlights was a Canada v. USA "Mini-Olympics," the perfect send-off for the guys before the long Olympic break. In the first challenge, Canadians Andrew Ladd and Jonathan Toews took on Americans Dustin Byfuglien and Patrick Kane in the "Popsicle Challenge." BRAIN FREEZE!!!!! And for the second and final challenge, Americans Adam Burish and Kane tried to salvage a win for the States, taking on Canadians Brian Campbell and Kris Versteeg in the "Skate 'N Shoot" competition. Once you get past the slo-mo, homoerotic dressing and hair-flipping scene, you'll be hard-pressed...

The Olympics have begun--or so we think

2010-02-10 21:34:00 U.S. Alpine Speed Skier Lindsey Vonn, 25, announced this morning at a press conference in Vancouver that she might not be able to compete in the Winter Olympics. Vonn is one of the few world-class, four event ski racers and the only American woman to have won two World Cup overall titles. Last week Vonn was in Salzburg, Austria for pre-Olympic training when she injured her right shin skiing. According to Vonn it was the first run of the day and she fumbled over her skis and hyper extended her leg. She continued to say she did not break any bones, however, the muscle is severely damaged.
