A concert, a coup and Brazil's bid for the Olympics
2009-09-23 18:42:00 Juanes, the Colombian rocker, held a concert for peace in Cuba. Some say it was the biggest gathering in Cuba since Pope John Paul II visited the island in 1998.Is Juanes following in...

Is Oprah's Chicago shutdown really about the 2016 Olympics?
2009-09-07 04:18:00 Many have said that it's awfully selfish of Oprah to shut down a portion of North Michigan Avenue for more than 48 hours and disrupt countless Chicagoans' commute fresh off a holiday. But was it really her idea or could there be more to this behind the scenes? Let's mull over the evidence, shall we?...

Wireless and the London Olympics
2009-05-06 23:45:00 There is currently much ongoing debate, and some might suggest ensuing debacle, taking place to ensure that there is sufficient radio spectrum available for the London Olympic Games to be held in 2012. However, Wireless Waffle has uncovered the official Government plans for the use of the radio spectrum for the last Olympic Games held in London in 1948. Interestingly, these were before the main legislation relating to the use of the spectrum, the Wireless Telegraphy Act of 1949 were brought into power and thus predate any previous attempt to specifically control radio use in the UK. Let us step back to 1948... Much of London was still in ruins and rubble strewn streets were not uncommon. The budget for the games was £600,000, a figure which today would just about pay the salary of the organising committee for about a month. Food was still being rationed (indeed rationing did not end until 1954), King George VI was on the throne and Frankie Laine, Perry Como, Al Jolson and the An...

Euro Tour ships Mickelson back to the US. Are Mickelson, Woods Olympic hope
2008-11-17 21:26:00 Click here to listen.Phil Mickelson has dropped out of the 2009 Race to Dubai because he said he doesn?t have enough time to dedicate to both the European and PGA Tours. With second-rate performances at the two opening Euro Tour events in China, Mickelson may have felt his chances of making an upward move were slipping deciding instead to get out early and ?save face?.Add Sergio Garcia?s leapfrog into second place in the World Rankings and that Tiger Woods may return for the 2009 PGA Tour season and Mickelson is probably more concerned with defending interests here at home than the struggle to climb atop yet another ranking system. One slip at a time Phil, although Mickelson insisted, "I really don't think about the world rankings right now very much."Go ahead Phil. Keep asserting that you?re not losing any sleep over your drop in the World Rankings and I?ll bet that, eventually, you?ll start believing it too!As Barry and I watched the final round of the Barclays Singapore Open, it...
