Harvey Milk & Billie Jean King set to receive Presidential Medal of Hon
2009-08-05 20:51:00
Earlier this week the list of Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients were announced.  Along with familiar names like Desmond Tutu, Stephen Hawking and Chita Rivera there were unfamiliar names like Pedro Jose Greer Jr and Janet Davison Rowley, and there were two very familiar LGBT Names:  Harvey Milk and Billie Jean King. The Medal of Freedom was originally established by President Harry S Truman in 1945 to recognize civilians who had "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors" for their efforts during World War II.  I am excited an happy to see Billie Jean King and Harvey Milks names listed as this...

The long and winding road, the Gipper nails Obama, with a wee bit of help from Fred Barnes.   Ronald Reagan (audio), 1964: “Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.” Your truly: The last time I checked Obama has a hack lawyer, who has never released his college or law school transcripts and never published anything, he himself, has written.   Obama has trouble understanding laws or executive orders he has signed.   Translation, if Obama is really a lawyer, he not a very good one. So this hack lawyer makes this radical economic pronouncement that somehow economic recovery is magically linked to enacting his bloated three trillion dollar budget.  Since when?   Obama has no economic credentials..   He cites no economic experts who can collaborate his theory.   In short Obama gives us no reason to believe that his private theory is true. Eric, on the clueless...

More ?Old Gray Lady? Presidential Pundit Piffle
2009-03-23 21:28:00
(I also took issue with some commentary from Sheryl Gay Stolberg of the New York Times here.)Yesterday in the Times, Stolberg tried to compare the furor concerning the AIG bonuses with other presidential ?distractions? from here, as follows?Mr. Obama is hardly the first American president to grapple with a distraction, a diversion ? an outright red herring, some might call it ? that grew bigger than itself. Ronald Reagan had the Air Force?s $7,622 coffeepot and the Navy?s $435 claw hammer, as well as an ill-fated effort to save money by classifying ketchup as a school lunch vegetable. Bill Clinton had midnight basketball and a high-priced haircut from a Beverly Hills stylist aboard Air Force One. George W. Bush was blindsided by an executive branch decision to contract with Dubai Ports World, an Arab-owned company, to manage terminals in six American ports. You mean Stolberg didn?t mention Jimmy Carter and the ?killer rabbit?? She must be slipping.I?m not sure how it is exactly that ...

Obama Sure to Win Next US Presidential Elections?
2009-02-27 07:18:00
This is what Barack Obama said during Monday’s (23 February 2008) White House summit on fiscal responsibility. “This administration has inherited a $1,3 trillion deficit - the largest in our nation’s history - and our investments to rescue our economy will add to that deficit in the short term… Today I’m pledging to cut the deficit ...
Mary Fallin Statement on Presidential Address VIDEO
2009-02-27 00:55:00
WASHINGTON ? Congresswoman Mary Fallin (OK-05) issued the following statement on President Obama?s remarks to the joint session of Congress:?Americans are understandably worried about the state of the economy and the continuing impact it has on families and businesses. I applaud the President for focusing his address on this subject and for turning his attention, at last, to the country?s unsustainable deficit. I am concerned, however, with the ?solutions? this president and his administration continue to offer, mainly a reduction in military spending and an increase in taxes on small businesses. This would weaken our military in a time of war and stifle growth during a period already defined by economic hardship.?All of this comes as House Democrats reveal their gigantic, $400 billion omnibus spending bill. While the President calls for fiscal restraint, House Democrats are unrolling legislation with over a thousand earmarks, including funding for red snappers in Florida, astronomy...
Further Thoughts on Presidential Appointements And Taxes
2009-02-04 17:06:00
First off, you’ll pardon me if I don’t shed any tears over Tom Daschle. Hopefully, he’ll be staying gone for good this time, though I doubt that’ll happen.  He’s too deep in the councils of the Democrats to stay gone for very long. Even in the unlikely event Daschle is out of the picture totally,  don’t be thinking that Government healthcare is hobbled , either. Obama will simply find someone else to head the push. Howard Dean comes to mind, his record of being an incompetent boob not withstanding. Seems something of a job requirement, anymore, anyway. Only after he withdrew his name.(Apparently at the request of the Obama White House) did we discover that the limo and driver and the taxes involved with that, were not the only problem as regards taxes and Daschle’s lobby efforts. Turns out he’d been flying on private jets, as well. That’s a grade one crime in the world of the leftist, unless you happen to be flying into ...

As a matter of routine, I take on the silliness and misinformation of ?the chattering class? in print, online and in other forms if I encounter it in my quest to provide something approximating the truth (yes, if you have any familiarity with this site at all, I know you know that already ? and by the way, I also posted here).I?m pointing out that extremely obvious fact as a setup to my comments on this opinion column from Ivan Eland (and I have to admit that Eland is one of the least likely individuals with whom I would take issue due to the fact that he seems to be more grounded in the reality-based community). However, in his remarks timed for the inauguration today, he tells us?Presidents cannot take credit or be blamed for what they inherit when they take office. If they at least try to move the country in the right direction ? as Jimmy Carter did when he proposed a top-to-bottom review of federal programs and government spending, known as "zero-based budgeting "? they deserve m...

Shame on America Sunday: Presidential Election Quiz!
2008-10-31 20:51:00
Shame on America Sunday is appearing on Saturday because Sunday is Sweetie's Birthday and I promised her no 'puting on her birthday.Another change: In lieu of my usual rants about how wealthy America is and how people should be ashamed for letting rich people hoard money while poor people have to hire lawyers to make sure they can get medical care, I am this week presenting something that should either (a) keep you from being ashamed, or (b) make you ashamed. The thing I am presenting is theShame On America Sunday Presidential Candidates' Policies Quiz. You should take this quiz to make sure that you are informed enough to vote; if you're not informed you should not vote (and you should be ashamed for not being informed and not voting) -- but taking this quiz will make sure you are informed enough to vote.So here we go; I've left out third party candidates and focused on the two that have a chance to win, Barack Obama and John McCain.
