Richard Grenell, gay conservatives & the GOP
2012-05-24 19:18:00
in 2004, in the decision that would (indirectly) launch my blogging career, Log Cabin passed up an opportunity that Richard Grenell yesterday seized with relish–the chance to articulate the role for gay conservatives within a party whose  entire agenda we do not support. By failing to endorse George W. Bush (and making a spectacle of ...
GOProud, Log Cabin deliver stern warnings to Mitt Romney
2012-05-13 00:04:00
What Log Cabin Executive Director R. Clarke Cooper giveth in one release on Thursday, with his strong statement on Obama’s fundraising pitch to the gay community, he taketh (partially) away in another that very day with a threatening language  directed against his own party’s presidential nominee: Marriage equality has captured the nation?s attention, and the response to ...
Romney?s Adversarial View of Russia Stirs Debate

The New York Times By RICHARD A. OPPEL Jr. Published: May 11, 2012 WASHINGTON ?Mitt Romney?s recent declaration that Russia is America?s top geopolitical adversary drew raised eyebrows and worse from many Democrats, some Republicans and the Russians themselves, all of whom suggested that Mr. Romney was misguidedly stuck in a cold war mind-set. But ...

R. Log Cabin Republicans underwhelmed by Obama support
2012-05-09 22:21:00
The leaders of two organizations for gay Republicans responded to President Barack Obama's support for same-sex marriage Wednesday with backhanded compliments and criticism of the timing of the president's decision. "It is good to see that after intense political pressure that President Obama has finally come around to the Dick Cheney position on marriage equality," said ...

Let's Just Say It...The Republicans Are Weapons of Mass Obstruction !!!
2012-04-28 18:05:00
Since the Clinton presidency, the Democrat base has hewed to the center-left on issues from welfare reform to fiscal policy. While the Democrats may have moved from their 40-yard line to their 25, the Republicans have gone from their 40 to somewhere behind their goal post. (taken from the article Let's Just say it: The Republicans are the Problem)Everybody is talking about this article, everybody is blogging about and everybody thinks it is the most truthful, spot on article since sliced bread that talks about the Republicans and what they have done to our country with their Weapons of Mass Obstruction. Republicans really are more broad-minded (than Democrats)
2012-04-26 19:06:00
Maybe it’s that because at least starting in college, we have to confront the biases of our professors, listening to, engaging with and responding to their arguments that we develop the appreciation of opposing arguments. Yesterday, Bruce alerted me to a poll (which I had also noticed) showing how (compared to Democrats) broad-minded Republicans are: ...
What gay Republicans (should) expect from the state
2012-04-24 22:39:00
Consistent with conservative principles as articulated by the Republican Party at least since its founding — and particularly in the post-Civil War era as well as in the last third of the preceding century (roughly synchronous with the rise of Ronald Reagan), we should favor laws which do not distinguish based on race, religion, sexual ...
Inside look at the Republicans? anti-Obama war room
2012-04-23 12:21:00
While Republican candidates battled it out in their primaries and caucuses, the Republican National Committee (RNC) was preparing for the general election battle against President Obama. Political Punch got an exclusive look inside the committee's anti-Obama attack machine, and the space they call "the war room."

“Occasionally,” writes Tina Korbe, a woman who feels Howard Dean’s party patronizes those of her sex . . . Log Cabin to back GOP nominee this year?
2012-03-21 18:54:00
If there is a Log Cabin/GOProud division among gay Republicans and conservatives, this blog clearly falls on the side of the newer group, in large part because we have doubted the commitment of the older organization to the Republican Party and its Reaganite principles — and because we have seen its leadership (at least prior ...
Where was liberal outrage when female Republicans were slurred?
2012-03-07 19:33:00
Even though I have some serious concerns about Michele Bachmann’s stands on social issues, I believe we should counter her with arguments rather than insults. Some liberal personalities — as well as a good number of gay activists — have preferred instead to address her on a regular basis which the kind of slur Rush ...
Democrats trying to blackmail lobbyists into not donating to Republicans?

That’s certain the impression I got when I read this article that a liberal, yes, a liberal friend linked on Facebook: Democrats on K Street are warning their corporate clients: Give to Republican challengers in the 2012 election, and you?ll regret it come tax reform time. Lobbyists are getting that message from allies of powerful ...

Even New York Times writers Helen Cooper and Jennifer Steinhauer dub political the president’s decision yesterday to make three recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and one to a new “consumer” agency: President Obama touched off a fierce election-year confrontation with Congressional Republicans on Wednesday, defying their deep opposition to appoint Richard Cordray ...

2011-12-02 03:10:00
Washington (Dec 1) At his weekly press conference, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) reiterated that Republicans stand ready to work with Democrats to extend the payroll tax break and unemployment insurance, but reaffirmed that it must be done in a fiscally-responsible way to protect Social Security and avoid compounding the crippling debt problems facing our nation. Speaker Boehner also highlighted House action on three additional jobs bills this week, and urged President Obama to call on Senate Democrats to act on these, and more than 20 other bipartisan, House-passed jobs bills awaiting action.BOEHNER: REPUBLICANS READY TO WORK WITH THE PRESIDENT TO FIND COMMON GROUND ON JOBS, PAYROLL TAX BREAK EXTENSION:?Republicans told the president back in September that we are ready to work with him to find common ground on jobs, including an extension of the payroll tax cut and extending unemployment insurance. And that offer still stands. The key question is: how do we pay for it??When ...

Why Santorum is not catching fire with Iowa Republicans

Republicans Fighting Their Own Right-To-Work Measures?
2011-05-10 19:30:00
-By Warner Todd Huston The Associated Press is reporting that resistance to right-to-work laws is coming from a surprising source in many states where the legislation has been lately introduced. It seems that Republicans themselves are divided on the efficacy of right-to-work laws and are busy obstructing other Republicans that are for such laws. AP notes that only one state, New Hampshire, which has newly introduced the bill, has seen it pass the legislature but even that state still might find the thing vetoed by a Democrat governor. In several other states Republicans are bickering over the law stalling passage....
GM Exec: Reporting GM's Failures Hurts... Republicans?
2011-05-05 18:00:00
-By Warner Todd Huston In an odd turn of events, former GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz thinks that anyone that criticizes GM is not only "mis-informed" but insists that those "foaming ideologues" that criticize the car giant are "damaging the Republican Party." It is interesting that an executive in the company derided as "Government Motors" is trying to direct attention away from his minders in the Obama administration and toward the opposing party, and just before a general election at that. It is also interesting to see Lutz defending GM as the "future" of the car business. Lately GM has not been turning out the sort of products that puts the company at the head of much of anything....
Kinzinger Statement on House Republicans' FY 2012 Budget

From the office of Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R,IL)... Washington, D.C. - Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-11) today issued the following statement in support of H.Con.Res 34, the House Republicans' "Path to Prosperity" plan: "America stands at a critical crossroads - Should Washington wade deeper in the red and follow the President's budget proposal? Or, should we chart a new way forward under the House Republicans' budget resolution? "It's no secret that we cannot continue down this reckless trajectory. Our nation's total debt has already hit an all-time high of more than $14.2 trillion and is alarmingly close to reaching the federal debt ceiling. We've kicked the can down the road for too long and now, there's no more road left....
Republicans Attempt to Blindside the Gays in IL

Call your Illinois Senator at 217-782-3944 to stop this insane bill- SB1123. The Illinois GOP is trying to blindside the state with an amendment to an innocent-sounding bill that supports blind people. The new law proposed in Amendment 001 would exempt religious and private adoption agencies from the Human Rights Act in Illinois, a law that prevents discrimination based on race, religion, disability, gender identity and sexual orientation. So if a religious based organization, which accepts state taxpayer funds, doesn't want to let a black couple or a gay couple adopt a baby, it doesn't have to. Illinois Republicans have a plan for a balanced budget in four years- Gover
2011-03-18 15:30:00
Illinois Republicans went all in Thursday by providing their proposals for budget cuts that could get Illinois back to solvency. Senate Minority leader Christine Radogno provided a senate Republican plan that would cut $5 billion in education, health care and state employee pensions. Radogno says her plan will create a $4 billion budget surplus within four years without having to borrow or make the tax increase permanent. Governor Quinn called the GOP plan "farfetched." Interestingly, he also said: "We are not going to go backwards. The apostles of, you know, Draconian cuts, ends up hurting your economic growth and jobs. I'm not listening to them."
Republicans In Wisc. Pass Curbs on Gov't Unions
2011-03-10 06:43:00
-By Warner Todd Huston After all the huffing and puffing, we find that Wisconsin's Republicans have a spine after all. They have taken a step that they have many times threatened and divvied up the budget bill with the provisions to scale back some of the collective bargaining "rights" once had by the state's government employees and gone ahead and passed the thing. On Wednesday night, the Wisconsin Senate -- minus the fleebagging Democrats that have run off to Illinois -- separated from the budget bill the part of the previous legislation that eliminates some, but not all, of the collective bargaining capacity of government workers. Even though the past legislation could not be passed without a quorum because of...
Illinois Republicans Donating to... a Democrat?

-By Warner Todd Huston This is why Illinois politics is called "the combine." It's because all too often there doesn't seem to be a whit of a difference between Republicans and Democrats -- not always, but all too often. They even donate to each other's campaigns. RepublicanNewsWatch.com has the latest examination of the sort of one-hand-washing-the-other-styl-e of politics that has destroyed Illinois. In this case it is the story of all sorts of Republicans donating many thousands of dollars to the campaign of Susan Mendoza, the liberal that ran (and won) for Chicago City Clerk....
