Hong Mi Korean Restaurant on No. 3 Road, Richmond
2012-01-26 16:00:00 Polly and I chanced upon this new Korean Restaurant Hong Mi on our usual meeting. We were looking for a place for lamb hotpot since the weather is cold now and we just drove out from Lido as we were told that they dont serve lamb hotpot during lunch hour. As we pulled out from the mall where Lido is and wanted to go to Aberdeen Mall, we saw that a new Korean restaurant has taken over Kim Ga Nae (also a Korean restaurant) used to be. So, we decided to check it out.

Beijing Day 3: Lunch at Er Mei Restaurant
2012-01-16 16:00:00 It was almost 3 PM by the time we got out of the Bei Hai Park. We were really hungry at that time. There were a number of restaurants around the northern entrance of the Bei Hai Park and so we explored the area to look for a place for a late lunch lunch. I remember coming across a shop which sell roasted chestnut with a very long line. There must be like at least 50 people lining up and the waft of roasted chestnut was so fragrant. As far as I would like to try them, the line was just too long. We settled at the above restaurant called Er Mei Restaurant. Despite it was almost 3 PM, the restaurant was full. So we guess this would be a great place to settle for lunch. We had to wait for 10 minutes for a table. We took it as a good sign.

Midtown Manhattan Magic at Bann Restaurant
2012-01-09 05:10:00 Most restaurants can get at least one thing right - that signature dish, five dollar happy hour drinks, or even a special molten chocolate dessert. Unfortunately, not too many get it all right. I have found an exception straddling the border between midtown and Hells Kitchen (350 W. 50th Street) in New York City. Enter ...

Why did Lincoln Park's three-star restaurant fail a health inspection?
2011-12-30 14:40:00 Lincoln Park became the Food Nexus of Chicago earlier this year, when Michelin declared not one, but two neighborhood restaurants worthy of its coveted three-star rating, putting our fair city on par with food havens like San Francisco. In fact, Lincoln Park’s Alinea and L2O are the only Chicago restaurants to achieve this distinction. Restaurant Magazine even... Read more »

Kin Dee Restaurant - Local Food in the Jungle!
2011-11-20 10:26:00 During my recent holidays in October 2011 when my parents visited from the UK, we had the chance to try quite a few new restaurants that had been "on my list". On the day we visited Kin Dee, the weather was not so nice, one of those low season days that has no sun. The rain seemed rather patchy, we figured that if we just drove north we might find a rain-free area! So we had no particular plan for where to eat.. just drive and see where we end up. The east coast seemed rather wet just north of Phuket Town so we headed further and drove through heavy rain with kids moaning about hunger in the back of the car ... we though to head over the bridge into Phang Nga and eat at Samchong Seafood which is a favourite of ours. But as we reached the far north of Phuket I remembered Kin Dee, although could not remember exactly where to find it! We kept eyes open for a sign .... and finally just before the Tha Chat Chai police checkpoint we saw "KIN DEE LOCAL FOOD" - did a u-turn just before the ...

Steal this restaurant's dessert idea for Thanksgiving
2011-11-16 20:21:00 For my money–especially when you’ve snagged one of their ubiquitous coupons, Sweet Tomatoes is the best buffet restaurant around. Restaurant at Cape Phromthep
2011-10-31 14:02:00 So, hopefully most people know where Cape Phromthep is? Right at the south tip of Phuket on the west side, touted by many guidebooks and websites as the place to watch the sunset. We have been many times in the past for the sunset, for nice views, and I finally hiked down the path to the end of the cape earlier this year - first time I had done that after living here for more than 10 years! There is also a restaurant here. I had not really paid it any attention before, but saw a review here that caught my eye. Looked like a great view and (important!) the review did note that the restaurant is not too expensive! So it was added to the "things to do on holiday" list. The restaurant has been there for years, I guess for 10 years or more.. but again, something new for us after all this time!Cape Phromthep has a big car park, from which you climb some steps up to a big open area with views, a shrine, a lighthouse and firedancers at sunset! The entrance to the restaurant is to the right ...

Pho 78 Vietnamese Restaurant on No. 3 Road, Richmond
2011-10-14 16:00:00 I was craving for Vietnamese dry mix noodles with lots of shallots and sweetish soy sauce. So, I got the boys to agree to go to Pho Lan for lunch. However, I'm not sure if Pho Lan has that dish or not. Anyone has suggestion of where can I this the dish? Anyway, when we arrived at Pho Lan's parking lot, it's full. So, we tried to park at the Richmond Center parking lot and walk over. Just becareful not to be caught doing that. Unfortunately, the parking lot is full too despite it's size. So, I have no choice to find another Vietnamese restaurant.

Yellow Door Restaurant in Phuket Town
2011-07-17 10:19:00 A couple of weeks ago (June 26th to be exact) was our 10th wedding anniversary, so we were heading out for dinner. We asked the kids where they'd like to eat and they chose Dairy Hut - a place we've been going to regularly for years in Phuket Town just round the corner from the Bangok Phuket international hospital. It was still a bit early so we drove past Dairy Hut and headed towards Rang Hill, thinking maybe to veto the kids suggestion and eat instead at Tunk Ka Cafe. The road heading up Rang Hill from this side is not well known and is much narrower than the usual route up Rang Hill which starts just north of the old town. BUT before we reached the hill, my wife said "Ooh, whats that?" - a small restaurant with a yellow door, it looked interesting .... The signs are all in Thai, the restaurant is called "???????????" - Yellow Door. We had a nosy inside, checked the menu, the prices looked very reasonable, so we chose the Yellow Door for our anniversary meal! Note that the photo...

Kopitiam Restaurant (Phuket Town)
2011-07-04 10:43:00 We took a little walk around in Old Phuket Town last month, mainly looking to buy a guitar for our daughter, but also just to enjoy the old town with it's old buildings and interesting little shops. Thalang Road is the center of the old town, and over the last couple of years especially now that all the ugly overhead wires have been hidden, the area has become very pleasant and more popular with tourists, especially Thai tourists - if you walk down Thalang road or the little side street called Soi Romanee you'll always see young Thai snapping photos of each other in front of old doorways! Lots of small cafes and restaurants have opened on and around Thalang road over the last few years and there are also some older establishments. On this walk we decided to try out Kopitiam on Thalang Road. There was a table full of Phuket locals sitting outside, always a good sign for good food...Kopitiam coffee shops are found commonly in Malaysia and Singapore - the word comes from Kopi (Malay ...

Deli Steak Restaurant
2011-06-26 10:33:00 We recently found a restaurant that suits us very well - close to home, close to school, I drive past it on the way home every evening, it's a good price, location is pretty quiet, food is tasty. And much as I dislike the phrase.. Deli Steak "ticks all the boxes". It should be clear from this blog that we don't go for fancy restaurants very often, and normally when we eat out, it's for Thai food. If you want a steak, you normally have to pay "farang price" / "tourist price". And I know there are some very good steaks in Phuket, for example at La Boucherie in Patong, or at Norbus in Rawai, or at the Pacific Club in Karon. And some people like to eat such food when on holiday, though for me, part of travel is to experience the local food - though that does not mean you have to try oddities like fried grasshoppers or soup made with congealed blood - up to you. I am still trying new foods even now - there seems to be an endless variety of Thai food. BUT for sure I like non-Thai food,...

Lunch Buffet at India's Tandoori Restaurant on Rosecrans Ave in Hawtho
2011-06-10 00:34:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: It seems like the proprietors of India's Tandoori restaurant do understand the importance of good online reviews. Their Yelp page is quite impressive with over two hundred reviews and an average rating of over four stars. That many people cannot be wrong, I always say, so I decided to give them a try. Since the initial visit I have eaten there at least ten times. It is usually during lunch time for their buffet. The restaurant is located near the intersections of Rosecrans and Inglewood avenues. In a standard run of the mill strip mall look for their sign. Parking is plentiful at one of the many available spots nearby.Rate and Review : Lunch Buffet at India's Tandoori Restaurant on Rosecrans Ave in Hawthorne, CA

The National Restaurant Show
2011-05-26 01:03:00 This past weekend I had the chance to eat my way through the National Restaurant Show. Luckily while touring the show I walked several miles on the show floor which hopefully off put some of my epic sampling. I had the chance to see all sorts of new bar and restaurant technology along with new food and products from different suppliers from around the world. One of the coolest things about the National Restaurant Show is that it is held every year in Chicago. I've been fortunate enough to go before I ever wrote a food blog as my Dad works for a packaging company and has gone every year as long as I can remember. I once purchased...
Next Restaurant: Duck Press
2011-05-12 18:20:00 The very first time I had something served to me table side was in France. The "show" was amazing. A poussin was baked in a pot with bread used to seal the dish so no steam or juices escaped. I didn't know what century it was but I knew it was pretty cool. In today's world, most people get their food while in line or at a faster paced restaurant. The theatre of dining is reserved for very few restaurants. When I served at Avenues in The Peninsula Hotel, we offered champagne off of a cart. For the first timers, it was a fun experience probably because they tasted all of them! Last week, I dined at Next and got...
Vermont Restaurant Week
2011-04-30 04:12:00 Vermont Restaurant Week starts today, April 29, and runs through May 5, 2011Vermont's annual restaurant week is a great way to eat at some of the state's best restaurants at a deep discount. The event, organized by Seven Days newspaper, includes dozens of restaurants with prix-fixe menus showcasing their chefs greatest dishes. Each meal(appetizer, entreeī and dessert) is priced at $15, $25 or $35 per person. Moreover, ten percent of the proceeds from event will be donated to the Vermont Foodbank. This is a very popular event featuring very popular restaurants, so reservations are a good idea. To find participating restaurants, go to the Seven Days Restaurant Week web page and find the red box with the "Choose a Restaurant" headline on the right side of the web page. I did not count all the restaurants but it looks like more than 75 are participating and they range in location from Middlebury to St. Albans. You can find the list here. The event has a Facebook page too if you...

9 reasons why I love and hate Mcdonald's Restaurant
2011-04-10 22:19:00 On a late night, or should I say early morning since it was three a.m., I had to really use the bathroom. In the cab, hurled over from too much drinking, I spotted a big, yellow, golden arch. After adjusting focus, one arch became four. After a few seconds and some more adjustments, the two lovely golden arches came in contrast. I asked the cabbie to pull over and wait as I used the restroom inside. I rushed out the cab and went straight to the bathroom ignoring everyone around me. There was but one task on my mind. I needed to pee so bad!...
Deserted Division Street development reborn as apartments, restaurant
2011-04-08 23:03:00 If you've been in the 1800 block of Division Street in recent years, you've surely noticed the unfinished building at the northwest corner of Division and Marion Court. Two years ago, it was marketed as a nine-unit building with two-bedroom / two-baths ranging from the $390s to $790s. By August 2009, developer Joseph Annunzio had defaulted on his $5.5 million construction loan. According to an email I received this afternoon, Summit Design + Build has relaunched construction at 1846 West Division. "The biggest challenge was taking over the aging structure which was left untouched and exposed to the elements for nearly two years," it says. "Upon completion, which is schedule for late spring, the sleek steel, concrete and glass...
