Bears go thud in the night at San Francisco
2009-11-13 06:33:00
The Bears defense rose to the occasion, but the offense turned in its worst performance of the season, Jay Cutler in particular. Cutler threw five interceptions. Two came in the red zone. Two others resulted in San Francisco's only points, the 49ers beating the Bears for the 7th straight time at Candlestick, 10-6.   Instead of passing to set up the run against the San Francisco's 19th-ranked defense, the Bears tried to establish the run against the league's #1 rushing defense. The result was 41 yards rushing and a 2.0 average.   The Bears did little to stretch the 49ers defense. Their two biggest pass plays came on screens to Matt Forte, who had 8 catches for 120 yards. A...

How will the Bulls cope without Tyrus Thomas for a month or more? 4. Patrick Kane is the Blackhawks as ... 5. Busy week in sports: Bears, Bulls, Hawks, Fire all in action. Hello from San Francisco: An Eco-Friendly Excursion to Muir Woods and a Son
2009-08-31 05:11:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: After a late night of exotic entertainment at Asia SF, our day got started very early. Although it was raining I decided to capture a few photos of the area surrounding our hotel, The Handlery Union Square Hotel, which is located on downtown Geary Street. I walked just a few steps east to Union Square, the heart of San Francisco's shopping, hotel and theatre district. Big shopping venues such as Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus surround this historic square. Luxury stores such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Chanel, Prada, Armani and Hermes are also represented.Just west from The Handlery are two historic theatres: the Geary and Curran Theatres. The Moscone Convention Centre and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art are close by as well. Before our excursion to Muir Woods I embarked on an hour long walk to check out some of the streets surrounding Union Square and had a delicious waffle breakfast in a little...

Dave does San Francisco !
2009-07-29 04:39:00
Coming to the San Francisco Bay Area March 5th-7th, 2010 ….Well actually, he’s doing the city of Tiburon in Marin county, which is just a stones throw from San Francisco Bay…. , but just the fact that he’s coming to my neck of the woods to do a weekend clinic…. is awesome! Friend and fellow racewalking fanatic Lizzy has been kind enough to host one of Dave Mc Governs world famous racewalking clinics here in the San Francisco Bay Area March 5th-7th at her home in Tiburon,California. The $175.00 fee covers all 3 days of clinics and includes Friday nights pasta dinner. And of course I’ll be there. You can download complete information and the registration form here . I’ll be posting more in the coming weeks, including info on nearby lodging. Who’s that handsome guy in the black shirt? Carmel Clinic 2007 If you liked this post, please share it!
GOOD LUCK SAN FRANCISCO MARATHONERS!
2009-07-23 20:55:00
I’d like to wish all my friends and all those people coming in from all over the world, a warm welcome to the city by bay, and the best of luck at the San Francisco Marathon on Sunday! They’re predicting near perfect SF weather for the start of the full marathon, but remember that no matter how cool it is at the 6 am start, by the time you reach mile 20 it usually starts to get really warm. Id be doing one of the events myself, but I’ve just been too short of breath lately to train properly. I may go downtown this weekend to check out the festivities though. Too bad they put the Expo way out in the boonies this year or Id check that too. Next race for me will be in 2 weeks in Nevada… maybe I’ll see some familiar faces out there in the desert. Have a great weekend! If you liked this post, please share it!
New York to San Francisco in a 100-Year-Old Car
2009-07-13 01:17:00
From The New York Times: http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com-/2009/07/12/new-york-to-san-fra-ncisco-in-a-100-year-old-car/   New York to San Francisco in a 100-Year-Old CarBy Robert Peele After a month of babbitts, bees and bad vibrations at least from the steering wheel — Emily Anderson and her rebuilt 1909 Maxwell DA arrived in San Francisco last Thursday, completing her re-enactment of Alice Ramsey’s groundbreaking journeya century earlier. While the first half of the trip was beset by frequent mechanical troubles, the second half went much smoother, according to Ms. Anderson. Smooth, of course, is a relative term for a vehicle running on century-old technology: transmission problems that began in Kimball, Neb., required her to drive the rest of the trip with no first gear. Mountain passes were particularly tricky, said Ms. Anderson, who called Carson Pass, near Lake Tahoe, the most difficult climb. “We got to within a half mile of the summit,” she said in a ...

Chicago Cubs v. San Francisco Giants 1:20 CT/2:20 ET CSN
2009-05-05 18:23:00
Admit it, this is a lot better than a week ago While Cubbie Nation attempts to recover from the shock of discovering that Ryan Theriot is now a power hitter, the Cubs prepare to take on the Giants once again. On the upside, most HRs hitters don't steal a ton of bases. Perhaps if Ryan begins to see himself as the next post-1998 Barry Bonds, he'll also imagine a bum knee and will quit trying (and failing) to steal bases. All we can do is pray and wait. And while we're waiting, I would like to take this opportunity to mock those in my fantasy league who made fun of me for taking Theriot with my final pick. ppppbbbblllllllt! Today it's Sean Marshall (0-1) against Tim Lincecum (2-1). Normally, I would say that we're not going to hit anything today, but with the new-and-improved Power Theriot, all things are now possible. The game is on CSN, but for those unfortunate souls living outside beautiful Chicagoland, we'll make sure to let you know when to shower Theriot with roses. Lin...

Keeping the streak alive ---photo by oscar alexander At the 3:00 minute mark comes the advice I live my life by: "Albert, you pierced the toast. So what?" So Zambrano is on the DL. So what? He hasn't been that great lately, anyway. And how do we know that Randy Wells isn't the next Cy Young? We'll never know if we leave him to rot in the minors, right? RIGHT? WELl HE COULD BE!!!!!!! What? We called up Bobby Scales? Doesn't he play 3B? Isn't ARam due back today? Uh . . .okay. Alas, Friday is long way off. Before we get there, we have to get past the Giants, who have a record almost identical to ours, even though I seriously couldn't name a single person on the Giants right now. Is Edgar Renteria out ther now? I don't even know. I guess I'll recognize some people when they come up to bat. Ryan Dempster (1-1, 5.40) takes on Jonathan Sanchez (1-1, 2.60). A lot of baseball types are looking to see if Dempster can repeat his stellar 2008 season, but we here at LOHO have our eyes...
Amigos en San Francisco

Social media is a wonderful thing. I use it to connect with people who I haven't seen in years. After seeing a Facebook status update that I would be in San Fran, Dustin told me to give him a call so we could go out for a beer or two. To be honest, we ended up going out for a few more than that. We watched Oakland beat the Red Sox in 12 innings (damn!) and then he took me to Chinatown (yeah?) for a few more beers.Dustin and I worked together on the League of Conservation Voters Environmental Victory Project. It is always great to see other EVP alumni. My first job in the environmental field was with LCV and the people I worked with that year were great people.I've also met lots of great people from my use of social media. A short list of people I've met through my blog include Bev, Melissa, Chris, Missy, and Deece. I met Rick MacPherson about two years ago on my blog (or was it his blog?) We've traded comments back and forth over the years and we both participate in Carni...

Events And Tickets in San Francisco
2009-02-03 07:08:00
San Francisco is an amazing place to visit. There are tons of things for tourists to do in the city by the bay, from hanging out on the beach and eating at the famous fisherman's wharf to hitting the City at night for a Giants game and a good old fashion night on the town. I wanted to go ahead and write about some things to do in San Francisco for anyone planning on visiting who's never been, or for those that live in the bay area that are looking for something new to do.First off, this is a Giants Blog, so you know I need to mention the San Francisco Giants. My favorite thing to do in San Francisco during the spring, summer and fall is attend Giants games at the beautiful AT&T Park. Now the Giants don't get the Yankees or Red Sox Tickets coming to town for interleague play this season, but there still will be plenty exciting match-ups coming up in 2009 and plenty of cheap San Francisco Giants tickets available as the Giants write another chapter in their rivalry vs. the drea...

San Francisco: Pope owes millions in taxes
2009-01-22 15:04:00
This should cause great wailing and gnashing of teeth: San Francisco will try to collect up to $15 million in taxes from the Archdiocese of San Francisco, which is refusing to pay certain taxes on properties the church is transferring from one Catholic nonprofit organization to another. Sports Business Networking? Join Women In Sports And Events
2008-09-23 01:05:00
If you're in the sports industry or in a sport management program, this video explains my experience in finding the right program to be a part of. After some good experiences and some terrible ones, I joined Women In Sports And Events (WISE). Regardless of gender, it's an excellent grassroots style program and they treat their members as welcomed guests. IF you're in a college, then you're already in a networking group, but you still can't go wrong with WISE. But there's one organization I recommend you not join and it's the National Sports Marketing Network. The National Sports Marketing Network does not have -- in my experience -- a good customer service track record. My story is personal in that I recently was sent an email to come to a member's only event, but then when i RSVPed -- after some hestiation because of the NSMN's terrible reputation in the SF Bay Area and after a friend encouraged me to do so -- I got the weird rebuff email. When I enquired and expressed...
