Singapore Discovers How To Turn Carbon Dioxide Into Methanol!
2009-04-21 00:56:00
The third smallest sovereign nation in the world has just made an enormous contribution to relieving the world's debt to the environment. Singapore researchers at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) have discovered how to turn carbon dioxide into methanol....  Double take: They have found a way to make greenhouse gas green.  Triple take:  They took the biggest contributor to the world's carbon footprint and converted it into a source of clean energy for the world.  Astounding.

Best Waffle in Singapore
2009-03-14 10:07:00
One time, we invited my ex house mate for a Sunday lunch buffet. I read so many reviews about Melt World Cafe in Singapore’s Hungrygowhere.com and decided to try this one (after so many failed buffet experience in Singapore). Good for UOB credit card for having good promotions that brings out the epicurean in each one of us. Let me skip the buffet review and move to the best part of this buffet experience. It was the WAFFLES! They have this station where you can choose various topping, sauces and ice cream! Best best best waffle I have tried!! I was too full that time to get another one but I can still vividly remember the crunchiness that lingered…perfect!

Singapore to tap reserves?
2009-01-18 15:27:00
I thought i heard wrongly... did you guys watched the news tonight? Did they really mention about tapping into the national reserves? In recent history, i can only remember the late president Mr Ong Teng Cheong wanted to tap the reserves... if they are thinking to do it now... i think it speaks volume about the current global financial crisis. Even Obama and Bush keep hinting that they cannot wait anymore and need the bail out plan to be approved. How about the recent banks news? They did not fail to beat estimates on the downside... woah~~ As GC would put it, even my Morgan Stanley short could make money... i think the world is really in trouble.Technically what i see is currently we are at this delicate junction. We have turned down from the 20-weeks moving average in most of the index charts. This is also the reason why i am sticking to my shorts. To me, yes maybe there could be a rebound since the market is over-sold. But what happen afterwards? Most of the folks i ta...

Singapore, China Tianjin Ground Breaking News
2008-09-29 05:31:00
A breaking news from The Straits Times Singapore mentioning ground breaking of the Tianjin Project."The development of the city will be overseen by the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Company, a 50-50 joint venture between a Chinese consortium led by Tianjin TEDA Investment Holding Company and a Singapore group led by the Keppel Group." "Work will now begin on the first 4 sq km plot, an area roughly the size of Jurong East Town in Singapore. The start-up area will be developed in three stages over the next three to five years. Singapore Grand Prix: Ferrari hosed down.
2008-09-28 15:34:00
Two separate incidents changed the face of the Singapore Grand Prix today. Fernando Alonso who took the start from the 15th position was on a single stop strategy and the combination of the incidents and his strategy paid off for him.Nelson Piquet Jr sent his Renault into a wall in the early stages of the race which forced the race officials to send the pace car. While the rest of the pack was still forming, Nico Rosberg and Robert Kubica were forced to stop to get fuel while the pit lane was still closed. Both pilots were penalized with a stop and go.From the pole position, Felipe Massa was still leading when came the time to enter the pits. A major mistake from Ferrari sent Massa away while the fuel hose was still attached to the car. Massa ripped the hose from the tank and dragged it into the pit lane. The crew members were forced to run the entire lenght of the pit lane to get the hose off Massa's car. A major mistake that will impact his drivers championship race with Lewis Ha...

Singapore Grand Prix: Historic and spectacular.
2008-09-27 17:05:00
Bernie Ecclestone isn't one of my all-time favorite person. The way he rules his Formula One circus can be debated on many fronts. But I have to admit today after watching the qualifying session that his daring idea of running a race under the spotlights during the night will be a total success once the weekend is over. The images coming from Singapore are simply spectacular and memorable. The lighting for the pilots is safe and adequate and is giving the fans something to cheer about. The city's infrastructure around the circuit is giving us some great pictures. The stands all around the circuit were filled to capacity for this qualifying session and a record television attendance is expected. The success of the event is undeniable. The experience will be repeated for next season. As for the qualifying session itself, Felipe Massa was once again the fastest of the group. His Ferrari was just over a half a second faster than Lewis Hamilton's McLaren. Hamilton almost missed Q3 when he...

Starfishes.
2008-08-26 11:05:00
One day, as an old man was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean. He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean.""I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" asked the somewhat startled old man.To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."Upon hearing this, the old man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all alo...
Invent Singapore Conference 2008
2008-08-16 16:37:00
Today I presented "What is Design?" at the Invent Singapore Conference 2008, Design for Life workshop. I had a really great time as we had a really friendly audience that asked great questions. As promised to my audience, I have uploaded my presentation to Slideshare for reference viewing right here on Design Sojourn. On a side note, I designed the slide show not as a Design definition exercise. Far from that. In fact designers are still debating on how to define what design really is. This slide show was really more about looking at design on a holistic level and how design like the subject itself is constantly evolving. Not only that, the focus of the presentation was more about creating a design mindset and for inventors to understand what design can do for them. Do enjoy the slide below after the jump!

Giant Statue Of Qu Yuan In Singapore
2008-06-08 10:52:00
In conjunction with the celebration of the Duan Wu (Dumpling) Festival, the giant statue of Qu Yuan was set up at Waterloo Street, Singapore. The building behind the giant statue of Qu Yuan is Rochor Centre. The height of this giant statue is about 2 levels of a building.Qu Yuan (340BC--278BC) was a Chinese patriotic poet from the State of Chu during Zhan Guo (Warring States 403BC--221BC) period.Qu Yuan was a loyal minister of the State of Chu. Under the influence of his political rival, he was exiled twice by the king of Chu. He was desperate when his homeland was conquered by General Bai Qi of the State of Chin. He jumped into the Mi Luo river to protest against the corruption of his country. In order to keep fish away from Qu Yuan's body, villagers threw zong zi (dumplings) into river for fish to eat. Today (fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar), Chinese all over the world celebrate Duan Wu (Dumpling) Festival to commemorate Qu Yuan.
