Late last week in the wake of Spygate, interviews with Matt Walsh and Bill Belichick, the Boston Herald admitting to mistakes and a reporter asking for forgiveness, the Herald’s Tony Massarotti wrote an article taking Boston sports fans to task. Counting With The Big Three, Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah
2008-04-20 18:00:00
ESPN’s Michele Tafoya, in an obvious open audition for Sesame Street, played a little 1-2-3 in a group interview with the “Parquet Posse” on this morning’s Sports Center. Ordway Returns To WEEI
2008-03-20 21:00:00
On March 4th we told you that WEEI’s Glen Ordway host of “The Big Show” was taking a leave due to family medical crisis that involved the birth of his daughter just days prior. Well on Wednesday, Ordway returned to the mic and the WEEI airwaves for the first time in three weeks calling it the most “frightening experience of his life” as his infant daughter battled for her life and his wife, Sarah, recovered from a serious situation herself that occurred while in labor. Ordway spoke to the Boston Herald’s Jessica Heslam Wednesday night about the ordeal his family has gone through over the last few weeks and the outlook for the future of his daughter. As a parent you hate to see this kind of thing and it’s always good to hear positive news in situations like these. No matter what you think of Ordway and his schtick it’s nice to see him back working with this for the most part behind him.
Cervasio To Call MSG Home
2008-03-20 18:30:00
After announcing she was going to leave NESN at the end of March, Tina Cervasio has landed at the MSG Network according to Neil Best. As expected, MSG announced the hiring of Tina Cervasio, late of NESN, as a host/reporter for MSG and MSG Plus. She will co-host “MSG, NY” and be a sideline reporter for Red Bulls games, among other things. As Steve pointed out in the comments yesterday, NESN has not announced who will be replacing Cervasio as the Red Sox field reporter but should be doing so in the next few weeks. I have to ask. Does anyone even watch Red Bulls games? And the million dollar question for some people. Who are the Red Bulls and what sport are they a part of?
Mike and Mike On Letterman
2008-03-18 07:30:00
Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic of ESPN fame made an appearance on Late Night With David Letterman last night. They talked about Tiger Woods being the greatest athlete ever, whether golfers are athletes, Golic’s steroid use, Billy Crystal playing for the Yankees, the Knicks and their NCAA picks. (Please open the article to see the flash file or player.) My favorite part is where Greenie calls Golic a “complete idiot”. The only disappointing thing was Letterman not grilling Greenie about being a metrosexual.

McDonough Returns - Well Sort Of
2008-03-06 22:00:00
Former Red Sox announcer Sean McDonough was on the microphone for ESPN today during the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox game in Fort Myers. For Sox fans it’s a very familiar voice as McDonough called Boston games for their over the air affiliates for 17 seasons. His contract option wasn’t picked up after the 2004 championship season. McDonough had worked the Friday night games in ‘04 with Jerry Remy on Channel 38 but NESN, who produced those OTA games, said their desire for continuity in the games was the sole reason for letting him go and having Don Orsillo do all the games. But more than likely it was Orsillo’s contract that made him the go to guy as he was and is considerably less expensive than McDonough. Many members of the media and Red Sox fans have noted they also sound very much alike. Today was the first Red Sox game McDonough has called since 2005 when he had a pair of regular season games for ESPN. McDonough says he is still a fan of the te...

Everyone knows you can get your regular Red Sox baseball fix on NESN but being the defending World Series Champions they will also frequently be popping up on the FOX Saturday Game of the Week and ESPN Sunday Night Baseball through out the season. These games are EXCLUSIVELY on those networks and not available to NESN. In addition there will be other times during the season the Red Sox will be on ESPN or TBS and those games usually get blacked out in the Red Sox primary market but are seen in other areas of the country. Here is the schedule as it stands right now: FOX Saturday Game of the Week April 12 - Yankees at Red Sox May 17 - Brewers at Red Sox June 7 - Mariners at Red Sox June 14 - Red Sox at Reds June 21- Cardinals at Red Sox July 5 - Red Sox at Yankees July 19 - Red Sox at Angels July 26 - Yankees at Red Sox September 20 - Teams TBA September 27 - Teams TBA ESPN Sunday Night Baseball (through July) April 13 - Yankees at Red Sox May 11 - Red Sox at Twins July 20 - Red Sox...
Picking Up The Blitz Ver 4.2
2008-03-06 20:00:00
Once upon a time the Troggs proclaimed, “Wild Thing! I think I love you! But I don’t know for sure” Well in Philly they apparently still love the “Wild Thing”, former Phillies closer Mitch Williams who is best known for giving up the Game 6 walk off jack to Toronto’s Joe Carter that won the 1993 World Series for the Blue Jays. Williams will have a new hour-long call in show prior to Phillies games Monday through Thursday on WPHT-AM 1210 live from Citizen’s Bank Park and will feature live calls from listeners. The name of Williams new show…wait for it…..ready? “Wild Pitch with Mitch Williams”. Now that oughta warm the hearts of Phillies fans everywhere.

Ordway Takes Leave From WEEI
2008-03-04 06:02:00
Being a Red Sox blog I would imagine many of readers are listener’s of WEEI, Sports Radio 850 AM in Boston. Whether it’s on a regular basis over the airwaves or online or even just casually when they go into town for a game most Sox fans have been exposed to the Sports Talker. If you have listened you are aware of who Glenn Ordway is, I even reference his interviews during football season with Patriots coach Bill Belichick. Ordway, who hosts the Number One rated afternoon talk show in Boston, will be taking a leave from “The Big Show” for a while due to a family medical emergency. Monday afternoon on the air he addressed his listener’s and advised them of the situation. WEEI released his on air statement and then one of their own. STATEMENT FROM GLENN ORDWAY “As you know, I was absent from the show on Thursday and Friday and I know that not being there today will raise some suspicions as to my whereabouts. Well, I am going to take a little time of...

Picking Up The Blitz Ver 3.9
2008-02-22 02:00:00
While listening to WEEI this afternoon, they were debating who the greatest athlete in the history of Boston sports was, and the Herald’s Tony Massarotti came out with this stat that is actually courtesy of Bob Ryan from the Boston Globe. It just floored me. What player is 21-0 in winner take all games? Winner take ...
