We are happy that 41K were released. 10 member MP committee was more concerned about scoring brownie points rather than showing a little empathy for Srilankan Tamils in inhumane conditions. It is sad to see 'The Hindu' being satisfied with printing the Srilankan Army press releases rather than reporting real news in Sri Lanka. And the sad that it is being left to New York Times and European Union to report anything substantial. It is sad to see that we don't have any 'Tamil' pride and are happy to let our bonds with Srilankan Tamils to rot. It is sad to see the Indian Government releasing more funds for the Srilankan government rather than withdrawing trade concessions and banning Srilankan imports for their inhuman actions. But most of all it is sad to see that we care about people living a thousand miles away and don't give a s**t our neighbors and our brothers.

As the orange flames of the rockets gave a way to clear skies, the very first view was that of earth through the bottom of the space shuttle. An image of a pendant hung at the end of a dangling chain, kept on foamy blue and white velvet satin sheet emerged. Wow...how beautiful sight that was. As the shuttle raced to a higher altitude, location of the pendant became obvious. It was Sri Lanka and the chain was an Indian shoreline along the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. This image of Sri Lanka is still well carved in my memory.I had seen this movie in early 90's and in 08, I got a chance to be in Sri Lanka. 2008-11-18 18:55:00 In 2002, I was invited to a 5-day conference of environmental journalists in Sri Lanka. That being my first trip there, I decided to take extra days to explore the country. Luckily for me, I have a Sri Lankan friend who took three days off from work to give me a guided tour of the country. I was really excited about our road-trip because I only read about/watched Sri Lanka in books/television. First in our itinerary was Minneriya National Park, 182 kms from the capital of Colombo and about four hours travel by car. This man-made lake (reservoir) is the main feature of the park, covering an area of 3,000 hectares. It was built in the 3rd century by King Mahasena who was known to have discriminated Theravada Buddhists in Sri Lanka. Many temples were destroyed including Mahavihara, the main Theravada temple. During dry season, different kinds of mammals, mostly elephants, and birds roam around the park. Not far from Minneriya is Polonnaruwa, dubbed as the ancient Kingdom of Reservoirs ...
