Based On A True Story. Or Not.
2012-05-10 20:57:00 I’m sure you’ve read this story. Like a lot of the trends in the world I tend to be one of the last to catch up. So when I saw the picture of the black lab sleeping on a sofa with a heart felt story attached, I read it. I’m a sucker like that. I read the entire post*. I teared up at the end. It was a lovely story, I had to share this. I clicked “Share” when I realized I should check my facts first. One google search and I found out this wasn’t a true story at all. At first I was mad. Mad at Deb Green, whoever the hell that is, for posting a picture that probably wasn’t even the dog in question. I was furious at the 460 other people who shared this on Facebook without even looking to see if it was real. Then I asked myself, “Does it matter?” How often have I written about my life and taken wide liberties with the facts? I use the tagline “Based on a true story” because I need people to understand that I WRI...

Y! Big Story: The high price of ?The Scream? and other art sales
2012-05-08 23:10:00 Can't afford $119,922,500 for a pastel? A poster will run you about $19.99. The 12 minutes of art-auction hysteria has led to yet another re-evaluation of, if not outrage about, the price we put on art and who gets to "own" it. The bidder(s) for the pastel of Edvard Munch's "The Scream" remains anonymous, but hammer prices like that in an economy like this has raised questions on who's driving up these high-profile sales lately.

Story - laugh with me - also venting
2012-05-05 18:08:00 I am venting here rather than engaging with the tenant as there is nothing to gain. Nothing to gain by sharing with you besides getting to have my say, so thanks in advance. Also this is an add on to my last post and we have covered part of this already, so stop reading if it makes you mad.So my tenant wrote me that he had assessed the value of my property and it is not worth the rent increase. Following are the points in his argument.1-in a nut shell his budget 2-A property around the corner from ours. To add in an insult he says it is nicer and worth more. Finally found said property as they do not have the address in the add. The reason it was not on my radar is due to the fact it is only 1 bathroom and it does not have the address nor did it have pictures until now. Not only do we have 2 bathrooms we have 500+ square feet more space. Geeze, call me crazy but I do believe another bathrooma and 500 square feet make a tad bit of difference. This property is being rented fo...

I don't understand this FAKE Time Osman story.
2012-05-03 21:06:00 Michael Riconosciuto & Ted Gunderson's 1986 Meeting with 'Tim Osman' (Osama bin Laden)So, here it is, the damning evidence from the CIA's best at the time, Ted Gunderson and Michael Riconosciuto, that they met with an American businessman called 'Ralph Olberg' and a young Saudi called 'Tim Osman'.There is some evidence that Tim Osman ... visited the White House. There is certainty that Tim Osman toured some U.S. military bases, even receiving special demonstrations of the latest equipment. Why hasn't this been reported in the major media?Am I to understand that this document (above) is from CIA-man Ted Gunderson? Is this the ONLY CIA document that states that links Osama Bin Laden to his Tim Osman legend?I'm asking because the CIA were either talking about NEUTRONIC BOMBs with these people, or it's ALL FAKE.Can someone please help me unravel the connections between the Carlyle Corporation (Bush, Cheney et al) and the Bin Laden Family (Saudi construction co...

Businesses should Tell a Story and Plant Many Seeds

I believe that any company (not just start-ups) interested in getting their products (or services) out there or wanting making a difference will find his few words of wisdom very useful. You will find this very applicable in a Design Thinking context as well. Enjoy!

Same Hacker, Same Story: Humans are causing Climate Change.
2012-04-05 08:14:00 No big deal here, except that another crime has been committed: The anonymous hacker who shook the world of climate science two years ago by posting a trove of stolen e-mails delivered a new batch on Tuesday, stirring up climate-change contrarians a little more than a week before global negotiations on greenhouse gases are to begin in Durban, South Africa. But from the source (University of East Anglia), we have this: If genuine, (the sheer volume of material makes it impossible to confirm at present that they are all genuine) these emails have the appearance of having been held back after the theft of data and emails in 2009 to be released at a time designed to cause maximum disruption to the imminent international climate talks. This appears to be a carefully-timed attempt to reignite controversy over the science behind climate change when that science has been vindicated by three separate independent inquiries and number of studies -- including, most recently, the Berkeley Ea...

Trayvon Martin: 'The real journalism of this story is getting short shrift'
2012-04-01 20:43:00 CNN Reliable Sources host Howard Kurtz on Al Sharpton wearing two hats as black activist and MSNBC host: "He was back in Florida again yesterday, leading a rally, asking for George Zimmerman to be arrested, talking about the possibility of civil disobedience while continuing to do his MSNBC show. I was critical of this on the air last week and Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC, has since defended Sharpton's dual role, what I would describe as a dual role. Telling the A.P., 'We didn't hire Al to be a neutered kind of news presenter. That's not what we do.' Well, no one is saying that Sharpton should be neutral. But, you know, if he is going to lead a crusade against Zimmerman, how can he continue to be a host of a cable show on the same issue at the same time?" Frank Sesno, former CNN Washington bureau chief: "Because he can. And he is, because the rules have changed. . . . There are times when people recuse themselves for one reason or another, and this woul...

A China Rent-A-Laowai Story To End All Rent-A-Laowai Stories. Trust Me On T
2012-03-31 16:07:00 The other day, in “China: Where Nothing Is Ever Quite What It Seems. The High End Rent-A-Laowai Edition,” we wrote about a friend-client/everyday businessperson who had been “rented out” as a United States diplomat for a big Chinese banquet/occasion. My favorite comment on that post was from Paul Gilles, who said “I guess I have been here too long.  That story seems completely normal to me.” I am guessing even Paul will be surprised by this next one. I sure was. So right after we did our “High End Rent-A-Laowai” story, I received an e-mail from someone I have known and trusted for years. This e-mail concluded by requesting that “If you were to quote me here, please obscure the details and don’t post pictures.” We are going to tell this bizarre rent-a-laowai story while honoring that request. Here is the e-mail, modified for obfuscation purposes: Wen Jiabao (温家宝), Chinese Premier (Photo credit: Wikipedia) ...

POETIC STORY DEDICATED TO GENE KELLY
2012-03-30 02:05:00 Debbie Reynolds dancing with Gene Kelly in "Singin' in the Rain"Debbie Reynolds grew up dirt-poor in Texas during the Depression. As a teenager in Burbank, California, she became the class clown, and, in 1948, she was crowned Miss Burbank by imitating Betty Grable. Warner Bros. signed her first, but Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer made her a star in SINGING IN THE RAIN. Gene Kelly (a tough taskmaster) taught her to dance from scratch. As the critics at Cahiers du cinéma maintained, the "how" is as important as the "what" in the cinema. The look of an image, its balance of dark and light, the depth of the space in focus, the relation of background and foreground, etc. all affect the reception of the image. For instance, the shimmering Technicolor of a musical such as "Singin' in the Rain" suggests an out-of-this-world glitz and enchantment.Gene Kelly kissing Janet Leigh in "It's a Big Country" (1951)Leslie Caron kissing Gene Kelly in "An American in Paris" (1951) directed by Vincente MinnelliP...

But now the games are over, and Suzukawa Koume is back to her normal school activities: attending classes; studying English; causing other girl’s hearts to bang like marimbas.
