Scientific studies show that magnesium supplements can reverse arthritis an
2009-06-03 00:48:00 If you suffer from osteoarthritis, you know how painful, swollen joints can put a damper on everyday activities. Osteoarthritis is characterized as a general wearing out of the joints, due to wear and tear. It is distinguished from rheumatoid arthritis, which is a systemic condition. While there are medications to slow the progress of rheumatoid arthritis, there are none available today for osteoarthritis. Your physician may simply prescribe pain medication to deal with the pain and leave it at that. As anyone with osteoarthritis knows, taking pain pills on an ongoing basis is no way to live. However, many recent studies irrefutably demonstrate that magnesium supplements can not only reverse bone loss, but can actually rebuild your bone tissue. When magnesium supplements, in a 2:3 balanced ratio of calcium-magnesium are taken, bone density has increased by up to a startling 11% in just nine months!Osteoarthritis is just the beginning. Osteoporosis is the next phase, where bone and joi...
The Rise of Critical Animal Studies: Putting Theory into Action and Animal
2009-05-30 20:30:00 By Steven Best[2]5/27/09Simulposted with ICAS?The capacity to contain and manipulate subversive imagination is an integral part of the given society.? Herbert MarcuseIn the last three decades, animal studies has experienced an exponential growth rate in the academy. The ?animal turn? in academic research has moved throughout humanities, the fine arts, and social sciences; it has crossed into fields such as psychology, philosophy, anthropology, political science, sociology; and it has made its mark in literature, history, cultural and critical studies and the arts, geography, philosophy, feminism, and queer theory. Currently, there are at least 40 courses being offered in departments that span these disciplines in universities and colleges in North America, the UK and New Zealand. The turn is manifest in an explosion of articles, books, conferences, and academic programs opening up from Canada to New Zealand.Without question, these trends will continue and animal studies will evolve ...

Scientific Studies Including Goji Berries
2008-12-09 02:17:00 Goji berries have a long history in Chinese medicine and traditional food, spanning back over 6,000 years. Naturally, many studies involving goji berries have been performed at Chinese universities. The most well known study found goji berries to improve the health of cancer patients. But since then, further insight into the health properties of the goji berry has been made. The College of Public Health at Wuhan University tested the effects of goji extract in 2004. Diabetic rabbits were used as the subjects. Scientists found an increase in HDL (”good” cholesterol) and a reduction in blood glucose level. Then, in 2006, XingJiang Agriculture University compared the anti-oxidant effects of goji to vitamin C on aging mice. Polysaccharides in the berry helped compensate for the age-related decline in the mice’s immune system. On the flip side of testing, goji berries have also undergone scrutiny as a toxin. Atropine, a toxic alkaloid, occurs naturally in goji berries. ...

Productivity Studies
2008-07-24 23:23:00 Every time a new research study around personal productivity and office culture appears, we dutifully post the ?proof? that information overload, email distractions, and multitasking are keeping you from getting work done?but are they? Sure, many of these findings seem very feasible, but it?s hard not to think they?re published only as a crutch for a larger commercial or media message?either ?the internet is destroying your life!? or ?you need to buy this product.? Over the few years this site?s been in existence, studies have shown that email kills concentration more than smoking pot does, that you?ve got 11 minutes before the next interruption, that dual monitors increase productivity, that no one understands the intended tone of your email, that email overload costs the American economy more than $700 billion a year, and that multitasking kills your ability to focus and get things done. Ok, fine. Most of these findings seem to be sensible (except for the pot versus email one, ...

Blogger Influence Studies Miss The Point - Print Media Is Dying
2008-07-14 11:28:00 I happened over to Flopping Aces, a political blog, and noticed their reference and post on a study that questioned the infuence of bloggers in politics. The study was done in the "olden" days of blogging, circa 2006, and so is already questionable because there were 2 million blogs then, versus over 100 million today. But the main point missed by Flopping Aces is that with ad dollars moving toward the Internet, and reporters being laid off left and right, blogs remain the one place to go to get news. Yes, biased -- for example, we tend to be pro-Barack Obama -- but that is why people surf blogs. The bottom line is that the way we're getting our news is changing fast and in this sea of alteration is difficult to question the power of blogs. We're at a point where almost every major news channel on television looks like blogs for news, then uses their content or story idea to some degree. That fact is not in the study's discussed.

To U.S. Army: Asian Studies Detachment
2008-06-26 07:14:00 U.S. Army: Asian Studies Detachment Ref: Document ID: MSR-032-08 Subject: Myanmar (Burma) Special Report Date: 19 June 2008 Nyi Lynn Seck, a 29-year-old blogger and social activist from Rangoon who, along with four colleagues, formed a makeshift group which they called ?Handy Myanmar Youths to reconstruct homes in the delta, said that to date they have built more than 100 houses, or what they call ?budget huts,? for cyclone survivors in the Laputta area. However, the activist complained that corrupt local officials were siphoning off many of their building materials and that their disaster management skills were inefficient. ?I was disappointed because some villages did not receive the materials we tried to supply,? Nyi Lynn Seck said. ?Officials from the Ward and Village Peace and Development Council stole them. For example, they gave us proposals for 10 x12-foot huts, but they took materials and tools to build 15 x 30-foot houses,? he said. An urgent concern is the high price... |
