Emily VanCamp or Jennifer Hudson? Who wears Lela Rose best?
2012-02-09 19:42:00
It must be nice to have a work wardrobe as fabulous as that of Revenge star Emily VanCamp. The actress, who stars as Emily Thorne / Amanda Clarke on the hit ABC series, donned a Lela Rose cotton-threaded tulle dress in last night’s (Feb 8) episode. If you recall, songstress Jennifer Hudson wore the same ...

Nokia's new 801T smartphone may be Finnish by nature but it's been nurtured to succeed in China's unique telecom environment. Take the retro-looking, telescoping TV antenna, for instance: it'll bring in television signals without putting owners in debt to their service providers.
Soap Opera Names as Baby Names
2012-01-04 11:00:00
Many baby names have been given a boost by soap operas. Because there are so many examples, and because I personally don’t watch soaps (and therefore can’t say much about them), I thought I’d do as I did for the … Continue reading →

The Top 10 Television Shows of 2011 (A Second Opinion)
2011-12-29 22:24:00
With the vast array of astoundingly good TV shows currently airing across the television landscape, it is incredibly hard to point a mere Top 10.   In an effort to single out what I thought reached the Top 10 for 2011, the following are 10 shows that excelled in writing, casting, characters, cinematography, direction, production and publicity.  Interestingly, 4 out of 10 of the shows are British TV shows, which just goes to show that America cannot claim exclusively to be the “best of the best.†  DOCTOR WHO  First and foremost, DOCTOR WHO takes the top crown.  No matter what other critics say, it is a remarkable achievement for any TV show to continue to enthral viewers after 48 years – of which it aired over 33 televised seasons in more than 50 countries around the globe.  The genius in recasting the lead character every couple of years adds to the renewed interest in fans and the writers in creating new stories; but, by far, the current broadcast run under the helm ...

What the Success of Louis CK Might Mean for the Future of Television
2011-12-16 18:49:00
When we first got wind of Louis CK’s plan to disrupt the traditional means of distributing content by offering up a brand new standup special for an affordable through his personal website louisck.net, our first thought was where do we sign-up? Our second thought — after eagerly handing over our $5 to CK via a hassle free payment system and enjoying his unique brand of self-deprecating and hilarious humor was — could this business model work for the rest of Hollywood?   It’s a question we’ve actually been pondering for quite some time when we weren’t otherwise occupied scanning our Twitter feed for increasingly painful-to-read tweets from the clearly disheartened creators of COMMUNITY (@danharmon) and COUGAR TOWN (@vdoozer). Both of whom who have been forced to helplessly standby as their respective Broadcast Networks quietly begin to withdraw their support for their critically acclaimed albeit ratings anemic shows under the very watchful eye of new lea...
Are You Tired of Twitter Spoiling Television? Will You Join in Our Crusade?
2011-12-06 00:15:00
The TV Addict has had it up to here with Twitter spoilers! For the second consecutive week in a row, an inconsiderate Twitterer (Tweeter?) has needlessly spoiled a piece of entertainment that we hadn’t yet gotten around to watching. Which naturally got us thinking: Wouldn’t it be nice if there was some sort of agreed upon Twitter etiquette (or “Twitterquette”) when it came to TV spoilers? You know, a universal unspoken gentleman’s agreement between TV Twitterati as to how one might wish to conduct themselves as a courtesy to others. We sure as heck think so. Which is why we took a few moments to scribble down four friendly guidelines that if followed, would go a long way into helping contribute to making Twitter a better place for all involved. See for yourself, after the jump. Guideline #1: As a TV Addict who loves nothing more then to encourage folks to watch television live in a last ditch effort to support the Networks’ prehistoric business m...

Youngsters in India Prefer Internet Over Television
2011-11-17 13:37:00
In the year 2010, WATBlog carried one story which made it very clear that when it comes to youngsters in India, IT and Internet is a total different ball game. It was reported that  almost 86% of youngsters in metros get access to Internet from their homes and that 65% of them choose Internet as their favorite pastime, not to mention the 85% of the youth who are hooked on social networking sites. According to recent report carried on by ViziSense, “Internet is a preferred medium compared to television for youngsters in India“. There are some interesting facts revealed by ViziSense study: 56% of them spend more than 2 hours on the Internet during the weekday against just 44% of them spending even more than 1 hour watching television. 69% youngsters spending more than 2 hours as compared to 35% spending more than 3 hours watching television Even here Facebook takes away the pie where youngsters prefer to visit Facebook and social media pages of companies instead of we...

Warning: iPad Ownership May Be Detrimental to Your Television Viewing Habit
2011-11-08 21:58:00
Are you one of the millions of people who have an Apple iPad at or near the top of their wish list this Holiday season? Allow us to offer up a little unsolicited advice from personal experience: The iPad is the worst thing to happen to our television viewing habits since the proliferation of reality TV. This undeniable fact is something that occurred to us thanks to a recent trip to New York Comic Con that found us absolutely transfixed during a screening of an episode of PERSON OF INTEREST. And while the show’s set-up — which more and more continues to play out like a televised version of The Dark Night courtesy of the monotone heroics of one John Reese (Jim Caviezel), his trusty sidekick Finch (Michael Emerson) and an increasingly colorful collection of cops and robbers probably had a little something to do with capturing our imagination — what really got us was what didn’t. Which is to say, completely devoid of access to WiFi and/or cell reception, the cavernous ...
The Intangibles Killing Television
2011-11-07 15:33:00
In today’s television climate, it is nearly impossible to predict what kind of show will be a hit and which will just miss the mark and fade into oblivion.  Shows with sterling pedigrees, all-star casts, brilliant writing and some with double the money of other shows are still unable to reach their audience.  Lots of fingers are pointed when shows that are supposed to be “guaranteed” successes don’t succeed.  But even with all the right ingredients, there are certain intangibles that networks and studios are refusing to recognize as significant contributors to why shows today are not making it. In an effort to illuminate the intangibles having such negative effects on television shows, I have identified a dozen categories that need to be considered. Too Broke One thing that TV executives always shudder to consider is the economic reality of the times we live in.  People are being forced to cut back on certain frivolous expenditures, and television is one...

Will Twitter on golf television remove the "social" from the media?
2011-10-27 20:58:00
A Twitter feed will share TV screen space with Nationwide Tour golfers this weekend as Golf Channel features writers offering analysis alongside of already long-winded commentary. Do I really need on-screen "captions" telling me what I'm already watching? Is Golf Channel removing the "social" from the media?   You can see what Golf Channel intends to do here but the screen caption does not give me faith in their new "Social Media Saturday". The comment by Rex Hoggard says it all, "Watching JJ Killeen roll up his pants could be an amazing shot from the water." He follows up with, "Hope everyone is watching on the Golf Channel." Oh boy, if this is what golf fans are in for, this golf TV network just took two steps backward!   First, I can see that Killeen is in the water and am excited to watch the shot. Second, I do not need the Golf Channel to place its ad directly in front of me as I'm watching this amazing shot. I hope the commentary is both humorous and ent...

News anchors are supposed to read the news, not make it. What Television Themes Stay In Your Brain After All These Years?
2011-05-05 11:40:00
Television. The vast wasteland. The opium for the masses.Since this is also a music blog (a subject which I haven't covered lately), I decided to list a few television themes of years past that still stick to my brain. Some are from shows I never watched that much or really cared for while others were from personal favorites.1.  Mystery Science Theater 3000 This is a personal favorite of mine to watch. I know it's not wise to talk during a movie, but the movies this show used to have made me re-consider.   This is also a personal favorite of mine that I just recently got to watching. It's perhaps one of the only ones to have a killer baseline at the beginning.    I...

American Idol Elimination Shocker

Interactive Ads To Come Soon To Your Television
2011-03-01 12:34:00
Lukup media, a Bangalore based startup is bringing interactive advertisements — iAd — to your television sets. Kallol Bohra, the founder of the company spoke about the limitations of current technology to make an ad interactive. Bohra told Exchange4Media, “Advertising on television has a lot of advantages, but despite the introduction of set top boxes for cable and DTH, there has been little innovation in the technology behind it.†The interactivity on television, offered by a digital TV service provider is restricted to video on demand and ‘Active’ services. But according to Borah, that’s not interactive enough and pointed out, “Using our technology, we can make TV spots as interactive as a website.†Such an approach is quite far-flung as, though different companies are coming up with their set top boxes and digital TV service, the differences between these products are hardly qualitative. But Lukup Media has developed a new software for making th...

'The Walking Dead' Is the Most Overrated Show on Television
2010-12-01 13:45:00
Courtesy of AMC Photos/ Scott GarfieldI like 1) gory zombie films 2) watching TV 3) cultural sensations that are not reality TV-, pop music-, or Palin-related. So the AMC television series "The Walking Dead" seemed like an easy call. In the wake of all the hype, however, including a recent Entertainment Weekly cover that read "The Best New Show on TV," I feel as if I should do my part to put the breaks on. Not only is "The Walking Dead" overrated, but it actually kind of sucks. Basically, it's an ensemble drama in the vein of "Lost" only with less interesting characters, less talented actors, and no mystery to drive the narrative. Based on a comic book series...

Versus Cancels Jenn Sterger's Television Show
2010-10-30 15:45:00
Jenn Sterger currently finds herself in the middle of a highly publicized NFL investigation regarding her back and forth texting relationship with Brett Favre. Hopefully, that matter will end soon. But despite all the press, Sterger's star is not rising. Certainly not enough to help her now canceled television show "The Daily Line" on Versus. At first, I thought TDL had potential. It was the first sports talking head show to actually feature bloggers and gear content towards them. Sterger's bit on the show was even called "Jenny from the Blogs." But then the program's format strayed away from the internet, and ratings suffered. TDL  reached out to sports blogs and invited them to send questions in to the...
