Bon Appetit's Choice for Thanksgiving Dinner
2009-10-27 02:29:00 Do you want to come to my house for Thanksgiving dinner? Well it's not really my house but I live at Prairie Grass Cafe more than anywhere else. It is where my family is going to spend the holiday! I'm cooking for my mom. George and I are going to make sure our dinner rocks. All joking aside, I want her to be proud of me. What I like best about Thanksgiving is just how grateful people are on that day. They appreciate that someone else has cooked for them. That someone else has made the effort to cook the turkey so it's moist and juicy on the inside and crispy skin on the outside. They appreciate that the mashed...
Happy Thanksgiving Canada!
2009-10-10 02:58:00 This long weekend in Canada is Thanksgiving. We are hard pressed to find a whole bird here in Japan and even if I did I don't know where I'd cook it.When we do cook Thanksgiving dinners are legendary at my house. Todd is a FANTASTIC chef and always puts out delicious meals that leave everybody wanting more. There never are any leftovers...In the expat community there are a lot of people alone for many holidays so it's nice when we have impromptu parties with people of all nationalities bringing a dish. I guess it's a true rendition of the original Thanksgiving of sharing. We have so much to be thankful for; even the bad things that happen teach you to be thankful. When bills come due and tenants leave or rates go up and rents go down everything is a learning experience. Every hurdle you clear brings you that much closer to your goal.Todd, Ronan and I are really grateful for our excellent team, our mentors, our friends and family and most importantly our partners. We're look...
Thanksgiving
2009-08-25 03:13:00 I've been sitting here editing pages from THANKSGIVING (the novel I'm working on) and thought I'd share the first couple of pages.... Just a little tease and perhaps a little inspiration for contributions to the Starving Artist Fund so I can finish it ;-) November 26, 2009Rita was at a complete loss. Thanksgiving had always been her favorite day of the year and with three short syllables her daughter had driven a stake through its heart and killed the holiday forever. It was raining sideways in New York and the wind whipped between the buildings. Rain and sleet mixed with the hot tears streaming down Rita’s face. She knew where she was going and she was determined to get there before she lost her anger, but she wasn’t exactly sure what she would do when she got there. The adrenaline racing through her body was making her dizzy. Stopping to catch her breath beneath an awning at 181st Street, Rita realized she had run out of the house with her handbag but without her coat....

Thanksgiving Turkeys Not The Only Ones In America
2008-12-10 15:04:00 -By Frederick Meekins Each Thanksgiving, the President pardons a turkey — an actual barnyard fowl and not a member of Congress. For the most part, the custom is itself harmless and mildly cute; however, should taxpaying citizens learn what is done with the turkey, they will likely end up with a case of indigestion. According to ...

Thanksgiving
2008-12-04 16:27:00 Cooking is one of my favorite things. I love to try new recipes. I love eating out and then coming home and trying to recreate what I have eaten. I love traveling the world and learning all the different ingredients and techniques used in different places. This is one of the most ardent passions of my life, the creation of good food. However, I dislike cooking the Thanksgiving feast. I hate spending the entire day in the kitchen all alone and then sitting all stiff together at the table, eating, and then spending another hour or so cleaning up all alone again. I love the discovery part of learning to create all my favorite Thanksgiving dishes. I love adding, subtracting and finding the perfect combination of foods for my table. But, I get lonely. This year it was just the four of us for Thanksgiving. I have accepted that we are never going to spend the day with either of our families and we have not lived here long enough to be close enough with anyone to share such an intimate holida...

Maybe A Time For Thanksgiving-Back?
2008-11-28 20:14:00 (Or, short of that, trying to rein in the investor class a little more?)Like many of you I?m sure, the issue of executive compensation has been much on my mind concerning the geniuses at the Big Three automakers who currently want Congress to approve a ?bridge? loan (from TARP or elsewhere) to help them out while they do the retooling they should have done long ago to make more efficient vehicles (and I saw an ad yesterday on TV for the Cadillac Escalade and I thought, yep, it?s true; they really never will learn, will they?). The latest reminder came courtesy of this news story from Wednesday about a speech Alan Mulally of Ford gave at a meeting of the Seattle Rotary Club. And lest anyone think that only Ford, GM and Chrysler are feeling the pinch, this story tells us the following?"October was the worst month for U.S. auto sales in 25 years," said Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan and Renault. "Nothing is moving. The decline is not confined to the U.S. market; most of the mature auto mar...

So, how did YOU spend Thanksgiving? 50 down, 9,143 to go.
2008-11-28 13:26:00 Yesterday was Official Thanksgiving. However, this year, we are celebrating "Alternate Thanksgiving," waiting until Saturday to have the big dinner with all the trimmings, which left us yesterday doing nothing much. We took the boys to the park for some all-bundled-up swinging, and then killed time: Me by making gallons and gallons of Chex Mix...... is gallons the right measurement? It seems like it...And Sweetie by repeatedly watching the videos that led her to make a rare song purchase. I can't, for some reason, embed the video here-- it's "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap and she wants you to watch her video, but not watch it TOO much, apparently. So I'll honor her wishes and post THIS video of song 50:and then I will post the two videos that Sweetie watched about 100,000,000 times yesterday while we made Chex Mix and hung around:Here's the first one you should watch:THEN watch this one:Oh, and you can watch this one, too. Sweetie did:And yet, she had the gall to say I was...

A Classic Thanksgiving in 2008 – Football, Country Music, Motorsports, Ca
2008-11-27 20:43:00 As I sit here in my bedroom watching the Titans vs. the Lions, yeah what a game, keep in mind that going into today, the Titans were 10-1, while the Lions were 0-11, yeah that’s a good match up, but hay what are you going to do, its Thanksgiving and I am watching Football, sounds good to me, by the way, the score is 36-10 Titans at halftime. Personally I am a New England Patriots fan, when it comes to football for me, I will watch a game if I can and it really doesn’t matter the teams, although a Patriots game would be my first choose.Anyway, first I would like to wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving and a special Happy Thanksgiving to all of our troops. Today is a day to relax and give thanks, and on this day which started with getting up a 9am-10am to watch the Macy’s day parade on television, this year it was on CBS, because I wanted to watch Sugarland perform, I only got the chance to watch and listen to one song, but I like the song “Settlin’”, what a voice Jennifer ...

Thanksgiving Reflection on Activerain in Black & White
2008-11-27 18:21:00 There is so much to be thankful for this year, it is hard to know where to start. So grab a cup of coffee and watch this Smilebox I made for all my Activerain friends here. Last year, I set a goal to meet 100 members of Activerain in person. Well, I far succeeded that goal. It was some of the highlights of the year for me to meet people at Inman Connect, Re-Bar Camp, KW Family Reunion and NAR in Orlando. I wonder if Jon Washburn the founder of Activeran has any clue what he created here? The relationships and friendships are fantastic. When you meet people there is such a connection, it is as if they were old college friends you hadn't see in years. If I have ommitted one, I apologize as there was no way to include everyone, and some when the show were missing were not there, as I must have not brought them in. Do your best to put back "conference money"in 2009. It will be so worth it to connect with computer friends face to face. Almost everyone included I have met face to fac...

The Great Thanksgiving Hoax
2008-11-27 13:04:00 The Great Thanksgiving Hoax from www.mises.orgDaily Article by Richard J. Maybury | Posted on 11/20/1999 Each year at this time school children all over America are taught the official Thanksgiving story, and newspapers, radio, TV, and magazines devote vast amounts of time and space to it. It is all very colorful and fascinating. It is also very deceiving. This official story is nothing like what really happened. It is a fairy tale, a whitewashed and sanitized collection of half-truths which divert attention away from Thanksgiving's real meaning. The official story has the pilgrims boarding the Mayflower, coming to America and establishing the Plymouth colony in the winter of 1620-21. This first winter is hard, and half the colonists die. But the survivors are hard working and tenacious, and they learn new farming techniques from the Indians. The harvest of 1621 is bountiful. The Pilgrims hold a celebration, and give thanks to God. They are grateful for the wonderful new abundant...

Thanksgiving '08
2008-11-26 23:13:00 Two Countries by Naomi Shihab NyeSkin remembers how long the years growwhen skin is not touched, a gray tunnelof singleness, feather lost from the tailof a bird, swirling onto a step, swept away by someone who never sawit was a feather. Skin ate, walked, slept by itself, knew how to raise a see-you-later hand. But skin feltit was never seen, never known asa land on the map, nose like a city, hip like a city, gleaming dome of the mosqueand the hundred corridors of cinnamon and rope.Skin had hope, that's what skin does.Heals over the scarred place, makes a road.Love means you breathe in two countries. And skin remembers--silk, spiny grass, deep in the pocket that is skin's secret own.Even now, when skin is not alone,it remembers being alone and thanks something largerthat there are travelers, that people go placeslarger than themselves.
