“Facebook” Is The Top Keyword Of 2011: Social Networking The King?
2011-12-26 07:22:00 Web-monitoring firm Experian Hitwise has revealed that in 2011, the search term “Facebook” topped the list followed closely by YouTube. According to Hitwise, the the top ten keywords punched into Google & other search engines, consisted of four variations of heavy-weight Facebook – Facebook.com, Facebook, Facebook login and of course www.facebook.com. Not surprisingly, Social Networking has remained dominant in the second consecutive year, with a 46% rise over earlier year. This was closely followed by popular video-sharing site YouTube. In the United Kingdom, people are known for their brevity & here, they merely chose the abbreviation ‘FB’ & that made the top ten for the first time this year. The top 10 most searched for terms for 2011 in US were: Facebook YouTube Facebook login Craigslist Facebook.com Yahoo eBay www.facebook.com Mapquest Yahoo.com As evident above ‘Navigational searches’ dominated the top search results as “users typed in terms a...

Gameday Headlines: Chiefs Mock the King, Cubs Mock the Goat
2011-06-15 01:08:00 After a 1-0 victory over the 1st place Brewers on Monday, the Cubs are getting ready to take the field in the second game of a four game set. Randy Wells will take the bump in an effort to guarantee a split, but before the comedy of errors takes place on the field, here are some headlines to tickle the funny bone of fans: -The Peoria Chiefs are hosting a celebration of the Chicago Bulls' first championship on Thursday night, and they've added a new wrinkle to the festivities. They will be honoring LeBron James by giving out the same non-existent rings that he received for losing to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night. For more information on this unique promotion,...

Radiohead's "The King of Limbs" Review
2011-02-20 18:06:00 I have a relatively long history with Radiohead. When I was 11, I bought "OK Computer" (which I subsequently didn't love). I drove to Somerset Mall in Troy, MI to buy "Hail to the Theif" the day it came out and blasted it in my Civic. It'll go down as the last physical album I'll ever buy the day it came out, something I'll always miss as a unique and truly exciting experience. There's something different about downloaded music, although at least with Radiohead they release it all at once so it's still a little of that shared listening experience everyone talks about. Naturally, I was working on a movie that day and most of the people there were aged 20...
The King's Speech
2011-01-24 04:36:00 The King's Speech, another likely candidate to be up for a Best Picture nomination, was easily one of the strongest films of the year. A story of personal struggle and adversity, this story captivated me in a riveting way while I also connected with it on an emotional level. Inevitably, the message of the film lies in something rather generic that everyone's voice and position deserves to be heard, but the film excels as it lets us into the personal torment of a life lessened by weak speech.
Stephanie Speak/The King's Speech:Triumph Despite Disability!
2011-01-14 15:00:00 (My teen blogger Stephanie recently saw the King's Speech and shared her view on this uplifting film) The past week, I was able to take a break for a little and go see The King's Speech with my dad and sister. The King's Speech presents a well-crafted and true story of struggle, friendship, and ultimate triumph. It came as no surprise to find out that the movie was nominated for an impressive seven Golden Globes. Colin Firth depicts King George IV, who struggled with a speech impediment since he was a little boy. As king, one has to speak publicly on a rather regular basis, which, as I can only imagine, would be frightening if one had a stammer. The...
On The Road With the King Street Patriots of Houston, Texas
2010-10-30 03:59:00 -By Warner Todd Huston The left is in high dudgeon here in the 18th Congressional District in Houston, Texas. Democrat Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, a long-time left-winger, has held this seat since 1995 and she isn't going to go away quietly. She is quite upset at the gall of a new conservative group that launched a poll watching effort in her district. In fact, Lee is so incensed that she has insisted that the Dept. of Justice launch an investigation of the King Street Patriots on trumped up charges that they have been harassing Hispanic and black voters here in Houston. Lee has claimed that these all volunteer, Tea Party-inspired poll watchers have been intimidating minorities and has helped spread...

Facebook Now The King Of Internet, Tops Google In Number Of Visits
2010-03-18 08:53:00 In another clear indication of Facebook’s ever-increasing growth in the internet arena, Facebook surpassed Google last week as the most visited site in the United States. According to a report by Hitwise Intelligence, Facebook surpassed Google for the week ending 13th March. According to the report, Facebook last week accounted for 7.07% of the US market share, which is just a shade above that enjoyed by Google (7.03%). Even more impressively, Facebook’s traffic was up 185% this year as compared to the same week last year. The corresponding figure for Google, on the other hand, was a mere 9%. While Facebook has achieved the number 1 ranking for standalone days in the past, notably Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, this is the first time that it has achieved it for a complete week. In fact, it is the first time since the week ending Sept. 15, 2007 that Google has come in second. Coming, as it does, in the wake up of the failure of many of Google’s ...

The King Of Diplomacy On China-US Relations.
2009-08-19 20:56:00 I have always loved the television commercials where some cheesy guy wearing a crown (presumably the owner of the appliance store or whatever else it is that is being advertised) screams out the discounts you can expect to get by shopping at his store. If my memory serves me right, I've been witness to the King of Cars, the King of Discounts, and the Appliance King. John Grisham wrote a book called the King of Torts and who can forget Rupert Pupkin as the King of Comedy? Like him or not, Henry Kissinger is the King of Diplomacy and he has a Washington Post op-ed out today, entitled, "Rebalancing Relations With China" (h/t China Hearsay, who also thinks highly of the op-ed) setting out how the United States should be dealing with China. And again, like him or not, the guy does know whereof he speaks and this is his own summary of what should be done: While the center of gravity of international affairs shifts to Asia, and America finds a new role distinct from hegemony yet com...

Michael Jackson Sighted, The Return of The King
2009-08-09 23:08:00 Michael Jackson is not dead. Reports of Michael Jackson sightings have been coming in from around the world. A glove reaching out of a McDonald's ball pitt in Romania, a strange looking stewardess giving out "Jesus Juice," to children on a flight to Japan. Most recently children were treated to a fantastic show at a Chucky Cheese in Omaha Nebraska. It was little Lee Widner's tenth birthday party, and things were getting pretty boring, until suddenly from out of the kitchen a masked pale man came moon-walking out of the kitchen and treated all the kiddies to a performance of Billie Jean. The man who called himself Herman Batman, then treated Lee and two of his best friends to trip around the state in a private jet, that "Herman" claimed to have acquired in a "cash for clunkers" deal. The event left town folks scratching their heads and wondering, was Herman Batman, really Michael Jackson.

King Of Pop Is The King Of Web Too
2009-07-08 08:57:00 King of Pop – Michael Jackson is no more but he still has the power to bring things to his feet. Yesterday, Michael Jackson’s sobering memorial service has been watched as the 2nd most popular event on the web ever. Social Media had already made the arrangements & partnerships to cover this event, including MySpace, Facebook (partnership with CNN), Ustream (partnership with CBS), and Hulu offering live streams. This was the second biggest web event ever after the earlier President Obama inauguration ceremony drew maximum attention over the web. Although, its too early to compare the traffic but here is a small look to the comparison of web traffic Web traffic on MJ Memorial Omniture reports CNN traffic: 72 million page views 10.8 million unique visitors 8.9 million live video streams Ustream: 4.6 million total streams 1.6 million total unique visitors 12,000 messages per minute sent through chat/Ustream’s Social Stream Facebook: 1 million users posted approx 800,000 statu...

All Hail the KING(S)
2009-07-06 15:44:00 If there was a silver-lining to last night’s curious decision by HBO to withhold new episodes of TRUE BLOOD and HUNG from the schedule in lieu of the July 4 holiday weekend, it was that it gave this TV Addict some much needed time to catch up on four episodes of KINGS. And catch up we did. Which is why we find ourselves taking a page from King Silas Benjamin (A man, who we’re fairly certain has yet to let an episode go by without some kind of pronouncement, press conference or proclamation) this morning by making an announcement of our very own: If you’re not watching KINGS — and judging form the show’s abysmal ratings, that’s 98% of you reading this — you’re missing out on the most intriguing, complex, and scandalous series of the summer. Not only is Ian McShane’s morally ambiguous portrayal of King Silas Benjamin absolutely captivating (and, we should probably mention to all those Academy members who still have yet to send in their ba...

The King of Pop
2009-06-29 00:52:00 Michael Jackson's career began in the mid 1960's but as a 51 year old he is really part of my Squeezed Generation of the 70's and 80's, which spawned the punk rock drama Rock and Roll Love Story, which is set in New Jersey and a grimy neighborhood in New York City in the late 1970's.Michael's kind of mega-Hollywood meets Motown music, and his gaudy gold-plated West Coast showmanship are epilets and crowns and tiaras and miles and miles away from the alternative bands that wore flannel shirts, sneakers and blue jeans and slammed out blues and punk on the East Coast. But Michael was quite obviously the biggest rock star of my generation, right up there with the Beatles, Stones, Dylan and Hendrix, and I cannot just let him pass without pausing to reflect.I wrote several different versions of his obituary for this blog and you know as someone who writes about mental health and struggling over adversities, I just didn't have it in my heart to bring up the terrible, nagging pedophi...

It's been a very sad week. Michael is one of nine children and was born August 29th, 1958. God Save The King
2009-04-30 06:00:00 One of the phrases frequently attacked in the King James Bible is "God save the king". A modern version proponent recently wrote our Which Version club with the following criticism. "There is another set of passages in which the King James Version translators used a dynamic equivalence method in which they inserted God's name where it is not in the original. This is in the phrases "God save the king" and "God save king [king's name]" in 1 Samuel 10:24; 2 Samue16:16; 1 Kings 1:25,1 Kings 1:34, 1 Kings 1:39, 2 Kings 11:12; and 2 Chronicles 23:11. This person then goes on to say that the King James translation of "God save the king" is "DEPLORABLE" because 1. a literal, word-for-word translation method was not used 2.the translators used colloquialism and idiom 3.they deceive the reader into thinking that these words are in the original 4.they take God's name in vain. I am often amazed at the criticisms against the King James Bible that the modern version proponents bring up. They...

The church and Britain: a homily for Christ the King Sunday
2008-12-09 01:59:00 A guest-post by Andrew Brower Latz (Ben’s note: Sorry, I’m a couple of weeks behind with this – but I still wanted to post this excellent sermon, which Andrew Brower Latz, an F&T-reader, preached recently for Christ the King Sunday)Today is the feast of Christ the King, or the Reign of Christ, the last Sunday of the Christian year. It was established by the Roman Catholic Church in the 20th century in response to the rise of fascism. It proclaims, in the words of Paul, that Christ is ‘far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named.’ Powerful stuff, but what does it mean for us today, living in a 21st-century liberal democracy?Let me begin with two examples from the media, one recent and one not so recent. The first, on Thursday on Radio 3, was a discussion with Trevor Philips, director of the Commission for Racial Equality; someone towards the left of the political spectrum, who describes himself as progressive and libertarian. ...

Nearby, the Etemenanki, multicolored seven leveled pyramid like ziggurat of Marduk, rears 300 feet into the Babylonian sky, its massive bulk encompassing 13 acres, its tiers a veritable stairway to the heavens and the inspiration for the Biblical Tower of Babel. He had residences in half a dozen cities, an Ionian island of his own and an elegan...
