What's happening to black folks in the media?
2009-11-03 23:06:00 There are so many talented minority reporters and editors. Some are out of work because of layoffs. Many of my friends have left the field because they couldn't get hired or promoted at the newspapers, magazines or television stations they dreamed about as they sat in their j-school classes....
Jay Cutler and Lovie Smith Address the Media after Bengal Beatdown
2009-10-26 05:01:00 In case you are still interested in following the Bears, here's a brief video clip of Jay Cutler and Lovie Smith addressing the media immediately after the 45-10 beatdown they took from the Cincinnati Bengals. I guess there's not too much to say when you get completely owned. Cutler actually responded better than I expected. Maybe he's already accepted his fate for this season - to be running for his life. People talked about his lousy record in Denver for a team that had no running game and no defense. I'm just saying. Lovie saying it was a tough day at the office has to be the understatement of the year. If he's not officially on the hot seat already,...

Why cops love the media
2009-08-27 22:10:00 I was driving, listening to the radio, when I heard about a Chicago Police Department officer shooting and killing a knife-wielding man in the Loop this afternoon. The radio station went live to a press conference given by Superintendent Weis. A female reporter asked a question about why the officers shot, and about the danger to passers-by because of police gunfire. I can't recall the exact phrasing, but it pissed me off. The question implied that the reporter who asked it was more concerned about the danger posed to the public by a stray police bullet than she was by the danger posed by a crazed, knife-weilding panhandler roaming the Loop at midday, accosting citizens at random. I'll post more...
Did the Media Help Obama Con the American People?
2009-08-01 23:04:00 As we see the “media narrative” about Obama begin to shift in the month just concluded, we become increasingly aware just how fawning their coverage of Barack Obama had been, with many suggesting his life story and rhetorical prowess alone would guarantee a successful presidency. But, now as he tries to govern, people begin to see ...

The Media Just Doesn't Get Science
2009-05-29 18:20:00 I'm tired of writers. I'm tired of politicians. I'm tired of hacks. I know this isn't the best way to "start a discussion" but I'm trying to be honest here. I'm simply tired of people who don't know science talking about science. What set me off? The following article found on CNN:

2009-03-04 08:56:00 I have yet to weigh in on the media-generated controversy about Rush Limbaugh’s speech last week to CPAC. For the Media, It?s Always Style Over Substance
2009-03-03 04:25:00 The media, who in recent days felt pressing stories like the First Lady’s arm workout (CNN) and the Administration’s soft-drink of choice (Time) worthy of their attention, as opposed to three more ethical (or at least noteworthy in their hypocrisy) lapses, feels it necessary to tear down Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal because…well, he’s not as ...

Online Fraudsters Prey Upon the Media and Public Interest in Current Events
2009-01-08 01:00:00 Yesterday morning, the RSA FraudAction Research Lab discovered a social engineering scam designed to lure people, via an email spam attack, to a fake news website designed to look like CNN.com. This “Cease-Fire Trojan Attack” attempts to bait readers leveraging recent news and “graphic and striking” images regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. Today, RSA is initiating the shutdown process to take down this attack.
The Media Lab
2009-01-04 19:12:00 The MIT Media Laboratory was founded by MIT Professor Nicholas Negroponte and the late Jerome Wiesner (former science advisor to President John F. Kennedy and former President of MIT), who foresaw the coming convergence of computing, publishing, and broadcast, fueled by changes in the communications industry. As this convergence accelerated, it spurred interconnected developments in the unusual range of disciplines that the Laboratory brought together, including cognition, electronic music, graphic design, video, and holography, as well as work in computation and human-machine interfaces. The Media Lab

Noise in the Media
2008-12-20 14:22:00 Sometimes noise isn't the audible, static variety, but rather words on the printed page. Rev Wright Back In The News... Blast The Media
2008-11-07 21:54:00 Of course he waits till after the election.Barack Obama's former pastor complained Thursday that the media used him as a "weapon of mass destruction" in an attempt to derail Obama's campaign for the presidency.Speaking at a forum about race and religion, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright accused the media of taking out of context videos that showed him cursing the government and accusing it of conspiring against blacks from the pulpit of the Chicago church where Obama had worshipped for 20 years. The videos, which included Wright thundering "God damn America!", dominated cable television for weeks. The public outrage that followed caused the president-elect to sever ties with his longtime spiritual leader.Wright told an audience of about 200 people at the forum that he was trying to convey the anger and desire for vengeance that people felt after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He said the media failed to mention that he was a proud Christian who was raised in a Christian home."Their intent...

Cheers to the media!
2008-06-24 06:47:00 Well... it's so good to see the media here in India doing it's bit to spread awareness about Global warming and climate change. I've seen quite a few news channels, English and Hindi, showing various programs on this man-made disaster recently. One of them has even collaborated with a company and is on a hunt for the best environmentalist of the country. One of my favorite programs was the one where they brought out the effects of Global warming on sea-plants and animals under water. If only other nations follow suit... the media can be an instrumental tool in saving our planet if utilized in a productive manner.
The media stopped following the money: CONFLICT of INTEREST
2008-06-21 11:09:00 Was it big oil money pouring into the "McCain Victory '08 Fund," as the sudden change in McCain?s stand on drilling in environmentally sensitive areas suggests? How will we ever know? There?s no benefit to a commercial news outlet in uncovering the source of the RNC PAC/527 money...It got interesting in April, but almost nobody reported it...Once Senator John McCain and the RNC began circumventing the McCain/Feingold limits via the creation of the "McCain Victory '08 Fund" with its $70,000 per individual donations they really left presumptive Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama with no reason to keep extending his offer to limit campaign spending by accepting public financing. They sprang into faux outrage, of course, ready to accuse him of a flip-flop despite the fact they'd not accepted Obama's conditional offer. Follow the money, not the spin, and you discover that this has gone virtually unreported. The commercial media outlets have a conflict of interest; reporting ...

52. Know How to Tell Your Story in the Media
2008-05-24 10:15:00 Publicity is by far one of the most effective marketing tools at your disposal, but how do you promote yourself to the media so that they will give your growing business the spotlight it needs? Storytelling. That's right, because ultimately, business stories are human interest stories and every reporter is looking for a good story. In fact the press refers to the articles they write as stories. Here are 4 things you need to give the press to help them tell your story: 1. Personality. "A company is faceless without the people who run it," says Joanne Cleaver, a business writer whose work has appeared in Home Office Computing and Dividends Magazine. "In any story, you want the personality of the people to come through. You want to get a sense of who they are." 2. Facts & Figures. Reporters love facts and figures; they anchor a story in reali...
