Bet On MLB Baseball ? Tigers Try To Cool Off Hot Sabathia

Sabathis is, far and away, the horse that leads the way in the Bronx. He has won two in a roll, but his performances this season have been on the side of superb, including in the season opener against Detroit at home. Tigers "Deeply Interested" In Carl Crawford
2010-10-27 13:31:00 The Tigers are "deeply interested" in Carl Crawford, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. As Rosenthal points out, Crawford and Austin Jackson would provide the Tigers with excellent outfield defense in spacious Comerica Park. Crawford can hit, too; the 29-year-old batted .307/.356/.495 this year with a career-high 19 homers. The Red Sox, Angels and Nationals are among the many potential suitors for Crawford. The Reds and Astros don't figure to pursue the left fielder, but that won't hurt his free agent stock much. He's in position to demand a $100MM deal, especially if the Yankees and Braves get involved. The Tigers started addressing their offseason needs last week by signing Brandon Inge to an affordable extension. They may soon do the same with Jhonny Peralta, so GM Dave Dombrowski figures to have the resources to make competitive offers to Crawford and other impact bats.

Tigers, Peralta "Expected" To Agree On Extension
2010-10-27 00:47:00 The Tigers have already locked up one infielder (Brandon Inge) before the start of the free agency period, and now they may be on the verge of re-signing another. Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that Detroit is "expected" to spend $0.25MM to buy out Jhonny Peralta's $7MM option for 2011 and instead work out a two-year contract with the shortstop. Morosi predicts Peralta's new deal will be worth "a little less" than the $11.5MM that Inge will earn over the two guaranteed years of his contract. Peralta had a .703 OPS in 2010, including a .253/.314/.396 line in 242 plate appearances as a Tiger. He provides solid power from the shortstop position, which is a big plus on a Detroit team that didn't generate much pop beyond Miguel Cabrera and the possibly-departing Magglio Ordonez. Without Peralta, the Tigers would be forced to explore the very thin shortstop market for a replacement that would've very likely been a downgrade. Morosi also mentions that Peralta's pending retur...

Bad pitching loses championships - Minnesota Twins & Detroit Tigers are
2010-07-14 08:40:00 It usually only takes one witnessing of the Chicago White Sox trotting up Juan Pierre and Omar Vizquel as their 1 and 2 hitters to realize that they probably don't have the best offense in the AL Central. The Twins and Tigers have perpetual MVP candidates on their lineups in Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, and Miguel Cabrera, whereas the best hitter on the White Sox might not get re-signed after this season. But little more than a cursory look at the Detroit and Minnesota rosters reveals that both are sorely deficient from a starting pitcher standpoint. While the swan-diving Twins at least have two studs in Carl Pavano (serial killer mustache and all) and Francisco Liriano, the Detroit Tigers have Justin Verlander accompanied by a group of starters who have been bad enough to give the rotation a losing record, even though the Tigers are 10 games over .500. Now that's impressive...-ly bad.

Thursday Afternoon Pitching Matchups - Sox vs. Tigers
2010-06-10 16:15:00 This article is being written Wednesday afternoon to compensate for the fact that I'll be out watching the Blackhawks, then watching a recording of the Sox game late, late, late afterward. Like his facial hair situation, John Danks' performance this season has made a gradual transition from great, to good, to troubling, to blatantly unacceptable, as you can see above. After spending a long period as the only reliable pitcher on the staff, Danks' output slipped noticeably at the beginning of May, as he reeled off a series of starts where he was clearly off his game, but gutted his way to decent performances. Now he has back-to-back poor outings with poor results, including giving up 9 hits in 5.1 innings to the God-forsaken Cleveland Indians, and has an ERA for his last 9.1 innings (his last two starts) that's slightly below 12.00.
Not the Most Repeatable of Occurences - White Sox Rout Tigers 15-3
2010-06-10 08:04:00 Wise of the Sox to choose a night where almost everyone whose zip code starts with a 6 was watching the Blackhawks to hide easily the most bizarre affair of the season. I stood fast in thinking that Freddy couldn't sustain any period of prolonged effectiveness , and I stood fast in thinking that Jake Peavy couldn't struggle for long, and I was wrong about both (I still could be right about Jake! maybe?). But I will say this; no way, no way in rarefied hell. are the White Sox getting two 3-run HRs from Ramon Castro and Brent Lillibridge again, let alone 6 RBIs combined between the two of them. Hell, I would bet even money that there won't be another game that the Sox score 6 runs total where they both make an appearance. I can say this because Lillibridge won't be up with the big club much longer, and because it won't be long before Ramon Castro is eaten alive by his 2nd chin. Fear not Detroit, and don't blame yourselves, for when the closest thing Major League Baseball h...

Siberian tigers starve to death at Chinese zoo
2010-03-12 02:29:00 At least 11 Siberian tigers starved to death in a zoo in northeastern China after its owners ran out of money and fed the predators just one or two chicken carcasses a day over the past few weeks. Six of the tigers died recently on a single day at the privately owned Iceberg Animal Zoo in Shenyang, the Liaoshen Evening News reported. The animals had been confined in small, wet cages, it said. It is not the first time the zoo has been in the news for leaving its tigers to go hungry. Two tigers at the zoo were shot by police in November last year after the hungry animals mauled a zoo worker as he was clearing snow from a path. One newspaper reported at the time that the tigers being starving.
