Time Magazine on Sathya Sai Baba
2011-12-29 12:44:00
At least this international news outlet got a rather larger number of the facts right, though its exposure is still very far from complete. His claim that the sexual abuse allegations were merely the “cawing of crows” cannot stand up against the massive sworn testimony by young men around around the world… he would have ...
The Brazilian Blowout Hoax, Part 3: OSHA Botches Study, Media Blames Compa
2011-11-22 23:42:00
Contrary to recent media reports, the Brazilian Blowout hair treatment is safe for use. You’d never know it, though, because the mainstream media has been perpetuating one myth after another about Brazilian Blowout while ignoring the facts. Last time, I wrote about a hatchet job made to appear as a legitimate study ...
Time magazine lists ?Five Reasons to Visit Beirut?
2011-11-04 20:35:00
Gail Simmons from Time Travel magazine listed 5 reasons to visit Beirut. Here is the why he think so: The National Museum: Lebanon’s premier museum is now surrounded by the glitzy high-rises of Beirut’s renaissance. This 1940s pharaonic-style building is home to artifacts spanning Lebanon’s long history, including the sarcophagus of Ahiram, King of Byblos, on which is inscribed the first known Phoenician alphabet ? the prototype of modern Western versions. But perhaps the most moving exhibit is the documentary showing the painstaking restoration of the shelled building after the 1975-90 civil war. Byblos: The Phoenician port that gave its name to bible reached its heyday in the 2nd millennium B.C., though its revival came in the 1960s when luminaries such as Bardot, Brando et al. pitched up there. They went to admire the excavated ruins, crusader castle and Romanesque church, and to eat seafood at Pepe’s, a Lebanese institution that still counts Presidents am...

TIME Magazine Calls Jay Leno the Future of Television (Moment of Silence Pl
2009-09-04 19:13:00
Dear James Poniewozik, I hope you’re happy. And by that I mean, was it really necessary to ruin my holiday weekend by reminding me — on the cover of the the new issue of TIME Magazine no less — that Jay Leno is the future of television. I mean we’re talking about NBC here. Of course Jay Leno is the future of television. This is after-all the perennial fourth place network that is so desperate for a win, they took it upon themselves to crown Conan O’Brien the new king of late night two weeks into his tenure. The network that we’re fairly confident will import any show from any country in an effort to find the next OFFICE. Heck, over a decade later, NBC President Jeff Zucker, Kevin Reilly, Ben Silverman, Andrea Bromstad is still searching for the next FRIENDS. That, and you said it yourself, “NBC has set the bar low enough for a sleeping man to clear. If Leno can just get the ratings he did in late night, some 5 million viewers (paltry by 10 p.m. sta...

Bob Barr In Time  Wayne Allyn Root, left, Mike Gravel, moderator David Weigel, Bob Barr and Vern McKinley engage in a Libertarian Party debate in Washington, D.C., May 20, 2008. Jay Mallin / Bloomberg News / Landov   With his belly hiding his belt, with his red suspenders and white beard, Glen Parshall is a dead ringer for Santa Claus, except for the snub-nosed pistol he keeps tucked in his back pocket. Parshall spends his days behind the gun cage of Bargain Pawn, in a roughneck North Las Vegas neighborhood littered with homeless encampments, Catholic charities and pawnshops. It's no Bellagio. But he is a gentle man who treats his customers with respect, whether hoodlum or homeowner. He knows everything there is to know about weapons and is a stickler for the byzantine rules of gun ownership--the waiting periods, the background checks, the ATF callbacks and information requests. But just because he obeys the rules doesn't mean he likes them. Parshall is dissatis...

It sounds too preposterous to be true, even to me, and I know it?s true.   MPC?s Family Forest® Project has now strategically compressed such a large quantity of knowledge and intelligence onto a half-ounce piece of plastic that a standard CD can be data-mined to generate tens of billions of pages of mostly ...

TIME Magazine: Obama's Mother
2008-04-10 18:03:00
Unlike her son who has been teased and queried about his middle name, Ann Soetoro had an unusual first name: Stanley. Her father wanted a boy."It turns out that Obama's nascent career peddling hope is a family business. He inherited it. And while it is true that he has not been profoundly tested, he was raised by someone who was.In most elections, the deceased mother of a candidate in the primaries is not the subject of a magazine profile. But Ann Soetoro was not like most mothers." Indeed, her son is not like most sons, either. Time magazine had put Obama on their cover in December 2007. Now, as we head for the Pennsylvania primary on April 22nd, the magazine turns to examine his mother in an article full of information about the woman who first shaped the person we know today as U.S. Senator Barack Obama.find audacious blogs | read the TIME article | digg story

Time magazine says it has new evidence against ex-president Suharto

Iowa Democratic Race: Too Close to Call
2007-12-29 07:17:00
After months of polling potential January 3rd caucus goers, we are no where closer to knowing which Democrat will win in Iowa. The latest Research 2000 poll shows John Edwards and Barack Obama are tied at 29 percent and Hillary Clinton is just behind with 28 percent of potential voters. Three candidates and only 1 percent separates the lead between them.Real Clear Politics took an average of the polls for Iowa and found that Hillary Clinton leads John Edwards by only 2 percentage points. Barack Obama was in third place just .3 percent behind Edwards. One thing is consistent and clear in Iowa, no one knows who will win. The experts don?t know, the political scientists have no idea, and the media doesn?t have a clue. 2004 Howard Dean was supposed to win it all. The media and all the experts picked him to come out on top in Iowa. Dean finished third. Iowa voters usually wait until the last minute to decide who to vote for and turnout is lackluster. Iowa is also a state known fo...

Time Magazine Still Licks The Boots of Dictators
2007-12-24 17:32:00
Time magazine is once again showing itself to be the perpetual sycophant of dictators and thugs worldwide. Granted, being chosen as Time’s Man of The Year is not a carte blanche endorsement of ones beneficent nature. Nevertheless, Time waxes poetic in their perennial boot licking of leftist dictators such as Vladimir Putin. It is true that Russia has been in turmoil adjusting to a post Soviet world but nevertheless Putin has reversed most of what we would normally consider positive trends in Russian society, politics and their economy. There is a Russian blog I read regularly and the sense of oppression by Putin is a palpable presence there. Everyone there knows the elections are a sham. Putin has hand picked his “successor” and will still be the power not so behind the scenes. I will give him credit that he was not as stupid and arrogant as Hugo Chavez in trying to rewrite the countries constitution to allow him to be president forever. But nevertheless he is still going to be t...

Top 10 T-shirt Worthy Slogans by TIME Magazine
2007-12-21 16:55:00
I opened TIME magazine and went through their annual Top 10 lists. Surprise... surprise... under pop culture section, the magazine list top 10 worthy slogans; did they have it last year? The list contains ten famous quoted slogans some of you may often found printed on T-shirts.Some of them, like Andrew Meyer's "Don't Tase Me, Bro!", or Madonna's "I want to be like Gandhi and Martin Luther King and John Lennon, but I want to stay alive.", have indeed their own story. But those who capitalize it and make the most out of the bucks get a different story. So, have thought about your favorite slogan T-shirt of the year?*image courtesy of BustedTees
Tsar Putin : Ascends the Throne of Time Magazine
2007-12-21 12:32:00
Over the past few years human rights in Russia have been routinely violated, along with gagging of the media and the railroading of political opposition. Tsar Putin has on a number of occasions evoked crime and terrorism to justify this crackdown.Despite Putin's iron fisted approach, Western nations seemed increasingly willing to look away in order to avoid rocking the boat. Despite all that is known about Putin and his methods the effort to rehabilitate his image in the West has gone better than many expected. We have been treated a set of photos showing a bare chested Putin on a staged fishing trip - the small but tough, exceedingly cute mini-Tsar, trying for the big one in the Russian wilderness.Activists such as Gary Kasparov who know better than most what this man has been up during his years in power make no apology for describing him as a criminal. However the need to have good relations with Russia given its new wealth and power, has prompted many in the political and corpo...
