2011-10-15 01:35:00 One of my favourite fusion players... so smooth, great tone and amazing fusion chops, but in an understated way. Allen Hinds did great live concert with Japanese musicians at STB139, Tokyo on May 28, 2011. Billy Sheehan: Niacin Live at the Tokyo Blue Note 1996
2011-09-02 17:00:00 From Wikipedia: "Niacin is a neo-fusion instrumental trio featuring Billy Sheehan, Dennis Chambers and John Novello.[1] Founded in 1996, the band's name comes from the timbral foundation of the Hammond B3 organ; vitamin B3 is also known as niacin. While the members pursue solo and sideman projects, they have continued to record and tour as a unit to remarkable critical and fan success[citation needed] ? given the narrow and decidedly non-commercial focus of instrumental fusion as a genre." Marty Friedman: Twist to the new Tokyo Jukebox 2 CD cover
2011-08-11 12:47:00 Marty Friedman's latest release gets a new cover... which looks a little like the old cover...spotted the difference yet... well if you buy both you will notice... great music too :) "Tokyo Jukebox 2" stretches the boundaries of guitar interpretation beyond anything Marty has released to date. In a recent interview with Italian web radio Linearock.it, Friedman stated about his next release, "My next album is called 'Tokyo Jukebox 2'. In 2009 I released 'Tokyo Jukebox', which was a good success for me in Japan, and it came out worldwide. So the record company asked if I wanted to do a 'part 2' to it and I was very excited to do that because, actually, 'Tokyo Jukebox' is one my favorite albums that I've ever done, so when it came time to do a second album, it was a lot of fun choosing the songs and doing the arrangements and recording it and I'm very happy about it. It's almost finished; I recorded most of it before going on tour in Europe. . . I'm very excited about...

For better or worse, it was definitely the longest and most demanding recording process of my albums so far. I think I really love it...??????????????????????????-???????????????[translates to I finally fin-ished it quite a difficult birth! I also he-ar that I have confidence in the&nbs-p;fresh ears.]

Eat Right Around Went to Tokyo
2011-01-12 01:19:00 Konnichiwa! It's been too long! I just returned from a long and lovely holiday. Mitch and I packed five outfits, an iPad and a taste for Asian cuisine and embarked on a 14-day trip through Tokyo, Beijing and Kyoto for Christmas and New Years. Now that I'm back and getting organized, I thought it would be fun to share some of my shots of Japan and China. Being that I'm a dietitian, of course, I took pics of many of my meals! If there is a lesson in the series of posts I'll put together on the trip, it's that traveling the 13 hours required to get there is totally worth it! ...

Tokyo International Forum
2010-10-28 00:33:00 Upon entering the Tokyo Kokusai Forum, your first impression will probably be that of awe. Far more impressive looking on the inside; when you look up from the bottom floor far below, you might get the feeling you're looking up at the ribs of a whale, or perhaps the skeleton of a massive ship. Your second thought will probably be something like: 'So what exactly is the purpose of this place?' Good question. After sniffing around a bit it's hard to credit it with being any more than a massive waste of extremely prime real estate, and of course money. The forum has other sections which are used for exhibitions, conferences, various performances and the like, but this particular building (below photo) seems to exist almost solely for the purpose of just looking good. Oh there are a couple restaurants on the top floor (right hand side) and some small conference rooms below that which can be rented out for extraordinary sums of money, but for the most part they remain empty...

Just took some leave from blogging for an unspecified amount of time. I had enough things/subjects to blog about, it was just a matter of other things on my mind, lack of energy, focus etc...But little by little I was getting back in the mood again to start blogging. Last weekend my wife N. and I went to two concerts by Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (TSPO), last Friday and Korn, last Sunday. At TSPO I made some pictures and shot one video with my newest aquisition, a Panasonic TZ10.For a more extended report and for the videos I would like to refer to my music weblog BrownNoiseMusic. The pics from TSPO you can find below. Adrian Vandenberg: Tokyo 1984
2010-02-21 15:14:00 More AOR heaven... I didn't even know a DVD existed! Links to the relevant CD's and DVD's attached In 1981 van den Berg worked with vocalist Jos Veldhuizen, bassist Griff "Studly" McGrath, and drummer Bico De Gooijer in a band called Teaser. He auditioned for Thin Lizzy, without success. With a new line-up (Bert Heerink (vocals), van den Berg (guitar), Dick Kemper (bass), and Jos Zoomer on drums), Teaser recorded a demo that fell into the hands of pop-journalist Kees Baars. Baars offered to manage the group, and contracted the band at Atlantic Records in the U.S. Their debut album was recorded at the former Led Zeppelin's guitarist Jimmy Page's studio, Sol Studios, and in 1983 their first single "Burning Heart" reached #39 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts. Vandenberg toured the U.S. as opening act for Ozzy Osbourne and KISS, and toured independently in Japan in 1984. "Different Worlds" from their second album also did fairly well in the charts, but did not equal the succ...

It's often said that you always will find a festival somewhere in Japan. Most festivals are based around a main event and often sponsored by a local temple or shrine. At most festivals you'll find lots of food stalls and some entertainment.I also shot two short videos which I will uploaded to YouTube and will link or embed here. As soon as I upload to YouTube I will update this post with the URL to the videos or embed the videos in this post. The last six pictures were taken at a nearby temple on the way back home.
