Uplift in tourism benefits Marbella
2012-05-03 02:00:00
A rise in the number of tourist arrivals in Marbella has been recorded at the beginning of 2012, due in part to increased interest from Middle Eastern travellers. Marc Pritchard, sales and marketing manager at Taylor Wimpey de Espana, said it is "no surprise" Marbella is popular not only as a holiday destination, but also as an option for those buying Spanish property. He described it as delivering "a perfect location between mountains and award-winning beaches, as well as warm temperatures long after the summertime crowds have departed", concluding there is "something for everyone" in the resort. Mr Pritchard added Brits are still one of the main target markets for the Costa del Sol as a whole and pointed out the region's tourist board is hoping to see arrivals rise by 37 per cent this year, compared with 2011. Last month, an article in The Telegraph highlighted the opportunities available to property buyers in Marbella's historic centre, highlig...

Tourism push 'will benefit Spanish property market'
2012-04-27 02:00:00
A new campaign to promote the Costa del Sol to overseas visitors is likely to have a positive effect on Spain's real estate market. Such is the opinion of Marc Pritchard, sales and marketing manager at Taylor Wimpey de Espana, who explained British holidaymakers in particular are being targeted by the region's tourist board. However, he noted Brits are not the only demographic who are heading to Spain, citing research by Fastighetsbyran - a division of Swedbank - which revealed the number of Swedish and Norwegian investors entering the Spanish property market is up significantly. "The Swedish economy has been performing better than the UK given the strength of the krona and low house prices and, as a result, Swedes are fast becoming Spain's biggest fans," Mr Pritchard asserted. Although it is not performing as well as the krona, sterling recently climbed to hit a 19-month high against the euro, with Mallorca Sotheby's International Realty pointing out this is an ad...
Design tourism at the Milan Design Week? and some memorable moments
2012-04-19 16:37:00
David Report is just back from two days at the Milan Design Week. We had the normal “Groundhog Day experience” (it’s our 23rd year in a row) – Milan in April is an epicenter of design where the latest products are presented for news-starving journalists and bloggers. As wellMilan Design Week is an “office party” for the design world. But one thing that strike us is the growing design tourism. Milan Design Week is slowly turning into a huge festival, which hails design and offers plenty of parties during night time. Nothing wrong that design is turning social – for us Milan has for a long time been more about meetings and experiences than products anyway. But after a while you feel empty. It’s more about the world of design than the design of the world. More shape than content. More product than process. More fashion than long-term solutions. There are of course exceptions; Design Academy Eindhoven are showingsome really clever projec...
Group of muppets put in charge of boosting New York tourism
2012-04-19 02:00:00
People seeking property in the US may turn their attention to holiday lets in the New York area after a new initiative by mayor Michael Bloomberg that has placed a lot of muppets in charge of attracting more family tourism to the Big Apple. That may sound ominous, but the characters in question are the real thing as the likes of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Gonzo have become official tourism ambassadors for the city. They will help promote attractions for children and family-friendly establishments such as restaurants. Of course, visitors of all ages may enjoy a walk in central park, the Statue of Liberty or the view from the Empire State Building, as well as some of the upstate countryside. Managing director of Feltrim International Adam Cornwell recently suggested Florida is a good part of the US to invest in property because of its tourist rental potential, noting that Orlando alone had 51 million visitors in 2011.

Kay Walten's Social Media Boot Camp for Riviera Maya Tourism!
2011-10-09 00:35:00
Wow. Just wow! I knew I was going to come away with some good info when I registered for Kay Walten's Social Media Boot Camp for Tourism but after reviewing more than 10 pages of notes I am seriously appreciating the value of the information she is sharing with us. For those of you who don't know her, Kay Walten and her husband Gary came to the Riviera Maya way back in the late 1980's, when the area of pristine beaches and jungle south of Cancun was referred to, unceremoniously, as the Cancun-Tulum corridor. It's a good thing some bright DMO (Destination Marketing Organization) came up with a more elegant name, dubbing it the Riviera Maya and hereafter making our marketing efforts infinitely easier. Gary and Kay began their life in this new, virtually undiscovered area leading tours of cave divers through the mystical cenotes that are now so famous in this region. To supplement their income and to provide added value to their guests, they began offering vacation rent...

Google to Become e-Tourism Specialist! Acquires ITA for $700 million
2010-07-05 08:12:00
Google has reached an agreement to buy ITA Software, a maker of air-travel flight-information software whose customers include major airlines and online travel agencies. Google will pay US$700 million in cash for the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based software vendor. According to Google, the acquisition will benefit passengers, airlines and online travel agencies by making it easier for users to comparison shop for flights and airfares and by driving more potential customers to airlines’ and online travel agencies’ websites. Google won’t be setting airfare prices and has no plans to sell airline tickets to consumers. Travel information searches make up a significant portion of Google queries, so the company wants to enhance its technology in this area, which is ripe for innovation, Google and ITA executives said during a press conference. “ITA’s very talented team has created an impressive product to organize flight information,” Eric Schmidt, chairman and...
