Annual Gay Travel Data from Community Marketing
2011-12-20 14:13:00
NEW YORK CITY is  #1, again, for the 16th year in a row, as the #1 Gay Destination. San Francisco-based Community Marketing, Inc. just released their yearly data. And while some of the results will be less-than-shocking (gay New York City gets high scores, as does gay Miami and gay New Orleans), there are still a few surprises in the 40-page report. The 16th annual survey of its kind analyzes online responses from more than 6,700 U.S. residents and 540 Canadians, completed between September 20 and October 31, 2011.Based on the survey and Department of Commerce tourism statistics, CMI estimates that gay and lesbian tourism generates more than $65 billion a year in the U.S. alone. Here are  some of the more interesting findings of this year?s survey:1. Economy be damned! Overall, the gay and lesbian community reported more trips in the past 12 months, while travel had been down in the past two years? surveys. Both men and women took an average of more than three leisur...

Spring Break Family Travel Tips
2011-02-28 20:39:00
We have become fans of driving vacations. It's not because we necessarily want to spend hours upon hours in the car but we want to steer clear of the airport. By the time we get everyone and numerous bags to the airport, go through security and spend a long time at the car rental asking for four child seats we've found that it's just simpler to load everyone in the family truckster and hit the road.   -      ...

LGBTQ2 Transgender Travel Information and Tips
2010-10-22 21:21:00
It was brought to my attention the other day that we never address the transgender community here on this Gay Travel site. So we wanted to include some resources and tips - Transgender people have as much right to travel as anyone else and we have a right to express any gender we want, any way we want while traveling (with the exception of some head and face coverings). However, recent heightened airport security has meant increased scrutiny, harassment, and discrimination against trans people who fly. NCTE hopes this document will help make your air travel experience smoother. This document for transgendered travel is little dated, but provides some useful guidelines. In 2009,  2009-The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rolled out a new phase of their Secure Flight program over the weekend. Passengers will now be required to provide their birth date and gender when they book an airline ticket as part of a move to help distinguish passengers from those on the governmen...

Being Smart With Your Phone Traveling Overseas
2010-10-14 15:26:00
Last year we did an article about traveling with our iPhone .  Common sense told me that international roaming rates would be outrageous - so I barely made any calls. Only 2. To my mother and  my  mother  in law!  Roughly  $2.30  per minute. A  15 minute call  was  $35! Ouch! I should have sent postcards! I guess I am naive...or stupid...I really  didn't  think  about  roaming  charges  being  applied  to  texts and that data usage could be an issue. The iPhone, with all it's  delicious apps and bells and whistles -  SUCKS  DATA. Most domestic plans here in the US  have  unlimited  data, so few users, like me, bother to track the amount I send and receive. Shame on me. When you travel to overseas, AT & T offers a pricey a la carte menu which is almost impossible for the simple mind like mine, to decipher. I don't know how many  bytes of this and that I am going to need to read emails!  How is that even calculated? I flunked  Algebra! And every country has different rates...

Some travel agencies on the Internet offer affordable and cheap flights to passengers. You just need to know as to when these offers would be available, as well as the validity of the offers on the websites. If you want to avail the offers, you would have to check the site everyday.  Keep in mind that tickets during festive and holiday season would be more expensive as opposed to off-peak seasons. As much as possible, plan your trip during off-peak seasons because not only would you be able to purchase flight tickets at a discounted price, but they can also be easily obtained. Happy Memorial Day - Safe Pet Travel Tips
2008-05-24 16:07:00
Hopefully everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend. Keep you and your pet safe. Below is my obligatory car travel safety tips that I tend to post from time to time. Here they are from petfinder.com.Take your companion animal for a veterinary check-up and obtain a health certificate and documentation of inoculations. If your pet has never been in a car, take him on short trips to condition him for the journey. Remember, traveling can be very stressful for a pet; you should try to eliminate as much stress as you can.Animals should be secure during the trip and not allowed to jump around or hang out of the window. For this reason, a crate or carrier is recommended:A strong, wire mesh crate, not permitted for air travel, is preferable for car trips because it allows ample ventilation. The crate must be large enough for your pet to stand, turn around and lie down in.Line the bottom with towels to absorb accidents. Attach bowls for food and water, to be given at intervals during the tri...

Travel Tips: Keeping your credit cards secure
2008-04-30 19:33:00
Two months ago a credit card ID thief nabbed my account information and went on a shopping spree. Over a two week period this (Editor’s note: expletive deleted) bandit purchased, among other items, snacks at the racetrack, many tanks of gas, and a new pair of shoes. In the end, $2,000 was charged to my card. I reported the case early soon after the first purchase, but could then only sit back and watch it continue. Feeling helpless, all I could do was get my schadenfreude on. I was hoping for stale popcorn, an accidental tank of diesel, and bunions upon their feet. Worst of all, though, I felt pretty dumb. I use my debit card for nearly all of my transactions and always assumed this was the “smart” way to pay. After all, I could view itemized sales online at any time and I didn’t need to carry around excess cash in my wallet. Rather than swear off using my card in the future, I decided to make a few changes to how I used it to prevent ID theft in the fu...
