NBA cuts the craziness, changes travelling rules
2009-10-17 07:00:00
ESPN.com: In addition to doing away with the old refs, the NBA has upped the ante and brought in a new rule. Or rather, they've rewritten an old one that no one enforced anyway. The new rule reads, in part "A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball." It is believed to be the first time any league, at any level anywhere in the world, has explicitly allowed two steps. Much like the day Danny Ainge stopped using hair dye, nothing has really changed here; They're just ending the facade....
Travelling to Albania

Albania is a mountainous country and the one of the smallest countries of Europe. The residents supposedly descended from ancient Illyrians. 2009-08-24 16:27:00
I incorporated this little tidbit of American gun crazy info into another blogpost, but now I believe it needs a blog all it's own. Arthur Frommer is boycotting Arizona as a travel destination. When this news hit the airwaves in "THE ZONE" it made frontpage Arizona News. TV Stations in Arizona picked it up. Then NPR, Now I'm blogging about it.Here's the orginal blogpost by Frommer that is causing the current brew ha ha.If and when you go there, to Mr Frommer's blog, be sure to read the 1,061+ comments from all the people chiming in with their two cents on guns and Arizona and political events. If you do not walk away with the impression that Mr. Frommer is being what I call "Dixie Chicked" because of what he wrote and has now forthrightly announced to all the world on NPR, you are not getting the right impression. A number of commenters are saying they will not buy his books. That's a Dixie Chick thing. A lot of people are saying he should stick to travel topics and stay ou...

Travelling on Grand Trunk Road
2009-03-11 05:06:00
Travelling on Grand Trunk Road all my life, it captured my imagination as a cultural curiosity when I read Rudyard Kipling?s Kim. At the beginning of the last century Kipling called it ?a wonderful spectacle?. without crowding?. green-arched, shade-flecked ? a rivear of life.? But Pakistan?s National Highway Number 5 (N-5), alias the Grand Trunk Road, or simply the GT Road, presents a different impression now. Commuting up and down the GT Road are caravans of trucks, buses, cars, animals and animal transport also auto-rickshaws, all having equal right of the way. On the GT Road every bus, truck, and a car must pass the vehicle ahead. ?The GT Road,? a veteran traveller John Otto wrote says, ?really belongs to the trucker.? And he is right in a way. Have you Travelled there lately? Seen any changes?

Travelling in a Motorhome
2008-09-25 05:24:00
Traveling whirls me around, turning me upside down and make everything that I have been taking for granted on head. I travel, initially, to lose myself; and I travel, next, to find myself. I travel to open my hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our newspapers will accommodate. I travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And I travel, in essence, to become young again ? to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more. All this can be best done in while traveling in a motor home.In motorhomes, you can travel at your own pace, as per your own plans and needs. No hurry and hassle. All those who are interested in motor homes may start at Travelworld ? a company that offers world?s finest motohomes. The company has a history. Travel Cruiser Concessionaires Ltd, trading as Travelworld American Motorhomes has been serving the American Motorhome community in one way o...

Beijing Summer
2008-07-28 10:06:00
Here I am in Beijing... in Starbucks, again. I heard that there was going to be free wireless connection in the city during the Olympics but obviously it hasn't started yet. So now I am forced to drink overpriced black tea and ice cubes just to use the net. Oh well, at least the connection is fast.It is so very hot and humid here. A stark contrast from the SNOW (very very light flaky snow, but snow nonetheless) that swept over the Sydney's North Shore this afternoon. Snow in Sydney??!! That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. I'm going to ask my sister if she saw any.I have to wake up at 5:30am every morning to get to class (I'm studying Chinese at Beijing Language and Culture University at the moment) because the University is so far away from my house. I live East, close to the city but the University is North West outside the 4th ring (the city of Beijing is surrounded by rings with Tiananmen Square being the center. The 2nd ring is the ring that basically surrounds the C...
Taiwan & Thailand
2008-07-12 17:28:00
I wrote up a quick entry for my last post as I was just about to hop on a plane to go to Taiwan and later Thailand. It seems I have returned from my tropical journey and all I can say is Sydney is damn cold! I really hate the cold, but I don't mind New York or Beijing kind of cold because at least that means 24 hour heating. Shanghai or Sydney cold isn't actually cold enough to have that kind of heating and using the air con non stop is such a waste of energy, and thus I am cold at home as well as cold outside. So I have to say I thoroughly loved my tropical holiday in Taiwan and Thailand. My first stop was Taipei, Taiwan where my family and I stayed for 2 days. We went to the Night Markets on the first night which was a lot of fun. The Night Markets are just roads of small food, clothes and accessories stalls. Bargaining is a must there, but you can't bargain off a lot though since they prices are already quite cheap. I was trying to put on a Taiwanese accent while bargaining but...

Japan Exchange Q&A
2008-06-08 17:52:00
Many people have been asking me about my 2006 exchange program to Japan as well as my up and coming 2008 exchange to Japan, so I've decided to compile some of the questions and just answer them here in one go. If you have anymore questions, you can comment or email me at beijingbaby11@gmail.com.Just a little background, I did my 2006 exchange to Numazu, Japan as a high school exchange student and I'm going to Keio University in Tokyo as a University exchange student in September this year.Q: Did you finish high school in Australia before you went on your 2006 exchange?A: Yes, I finished high school in Sydney (end of 2005), then I deferred my university placement and went on exchange to a Japanese high school in Numazu (March 2006-January 2007). When I returned the next year, I began my university studies in Sydney (March 2007).Q: What problems did you face when you were there?A: Apart from the normal problematic situations like missing my friends and family I also felt felt that m...
Travelling With My Laptop
2008-06-07 02:58:00
Now that my trip to the Philippines is getting closer, I am finalizing the things I need to bring with me. So most of today was spent folding up, ironing clothes and organizing thing in our luggages. Then I thought about my laptop. I do need to get a case for it, so it's well-protected in my luggage. I can't use it on the plane or anytime during the trip so it won't be on the carry-on bag. My hands are going to be full with my two little ones the entire trip.

Have you given any thought to how you?ll take your holiday money with you?
2008-05-29 11:17:00
If you’re like most people I’m sure you’ve hardly gotten beyond thinking that you’ll either get a few hundred from the travel agent or perhaps just use a card when you get there. In the first case, you’ll end up spending a small fortune un-necessarily and in the second you could be stuck without any money. ...

Laptop Rentals Can Help Assure Data Security When Travelling Overseas on Bu
2008-05-07 17:47:00
A recent court decision from Los Angeles' Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals should give business travellers pause to consider whether they would not be well advised to pick up a laptop rental before travelling overseas on business and returning their computer rental when they get back from doing business overseas. The Court's ruling that United States Customs and Border Patrol agents have unfettered power to search laptops in airports - including opening every file on the hard drive - should give business travellers returning to the U.S. from overseas (including even Canada and Mexico) pause to consider whether they wish to have sensitive or proprietary business files on their every workaday laptop opened and subjected to scrutiny by relative strangers. Not to be alarmist, but the information on business files - whether in respect to information that needs to be shielded from competitors or strategic information about possible mergers or acquisitions - is always prone to "seepage" i...

Travelling Out of Town
2008-05-01 23:44:00
Whenever my husband and I travel out of town, or out of state, 90% of the time we just use a car rental service rather than use our own car. I think that it's easier on our car, especially if we're travelling for days. Like, our last travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida from Dallas, Texas we just rented a car. With two small kids, we find it easier to travel by car than by plane and in order to rent a car cheap, we usually check out special offers and discounts like the ones offered by Advantage.

When it’s a clear plastic bag that’s had a knot tied in it and doesn’t have a ziploc closing mechanism. That’s the latest nonsense to come from my travels through airport security and one that was particularly crazy. The security staff focused all their attention on that “deficiency” in my packing and managed to miss four ...

Beijing Baby!
2008-04-23 14:29:00
Wow I know it's been about a zillion years since I last blogged but I've been so caught up with Uni, work and friends I've barely had time to sit down in front of my computer.Loads have happened during the past month. I know I sounded like I was whining about going to Keio University instead of Peking University in my last post but now I'm extremely extremely happy that I'm going to Keio. It was such a challenge to get into (a Professor had to even vouch for me) and I definitely won't be taking this chance for granted. Having said that I also get to go to Beijing and study an intensive Chinese course at the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) for 4 weeks right before I go to Japan for my 6 month exchange. So I kind of ended up with the best of both worlds. The only thing is, some of my best girlfriends are leaving for Japan in the beginning of July for a 3 week holiday which means they miss my 21st birthday!!! Holy *a4i&*^% can you believe I'm turning 21?! I mea...
