I'm kind of a late adopter of things. Some people I know sign up for the latest things as soon as news they are available breaks. Me, not so much. I like to wait for the dust to settle a bit I guess. One of those things is Google Drive, which officially released last month, and I'm only now signing up for it. Of course with the threat of CISPA, the only thing I am storing on it is a 5GB TrueCrypt volume (Suck on that US Government!)Anyhoo, at the time of this writing there are only Google Drive clients available for Windows, Mac and Android with clients for iPhone and iPad coming out shortly. What if you are a Linux user though? Well, there is a way to mount your Google Drive in Ubuntu with a modified version of the now defunct Google-Docs-FS project. I've been mentioning that I will be building out a 12.04 version of Bauer-Puntu Linux, and I will. For the most part I will install all the sstuff you guys have grown to love. CHNTPW, GrimWEPA and the rest. In this version I decided that I would install one more toy you may have heard of. It's called Low Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC), and it is probably the best known DoS testing tool out there. The problem with it is that it's written in .Net. Why anyone would write a hacking/attacking tool using Microsoft programming I have no idea, but they did. Anyway, in order to run it you must be running .Net Framework. For most people that means running it in WINE. Well screw that! I am going to put it in Bauer-Puntu and run it natively with Mono, the Linux version of .Net Framework! This post has been a long time coming. I have yet to find a definitive post on installing SCST on Ubuntu Linux. At least, I haven?t found a how-to guide on installing SCST on Ubuntu to setup a simple iSCSI Target SAN. There are posts about setting it up with packages to make virtual tape libraries, and there is one post on how to set it up with Infiniband, but the guy who wrote it was clearly full of shit. First of all, he mentioned a repository where one can install SCST by running sudo apt-get install linux-scst. Well it installs, but doesn?t work. No, the only real way to do this is by compiling it from source because not only do you have to install SCST but you have to compile a custom kernel with the SCST modules in it. So why SCST and not iSCSI Enterprise Target (IET)? At my day job I inherited a collection of a bunch of old computers. A ton of them were Intel Pentium 4 machines without hyper threading. Some were custom built jobs that were in decent working order that I just didn?t want to support, and some were a few years old, still worked okay but mainly didn?t match any hardware standard we had going. I decided to donate all of these computers, but before I called a local non-profit to haul them away in exchange for a tax deductible receipt, I made these machines available to employees.
