Year in Review: Long-Term Uranium Stock Prospects Trend Higher
2011-12-22 22:30:00 After a sluggish 2009 and a slow 2010, uranium seemed to be coming into its own at the beginning of 2011. The spot price went from $42/pound (lb) at the end of the decade to start 2011 above $60/lb. It quickly topped $70/lb in February and had $75/lb in its sights before the March 11 Fukushima nuclear accident slammed it back down briefly to $50/lb. With the exception of a couple bounces, it stayed lower through the rest of the year, closing at $52/lb. The Energy Report research shows that uranium company stock prices generally followed the spot price as measured in the UXA1 Commodity Futures Price (shown as the bright red line). The real low for almost . . . → Read More: Year in Review: Long-Term Uranium Stock Prospects Trend Higher

The Uranium Industry Is Alive and Well: David Talbot
2011-12-14 01:00:00 The Energy Report: Dave, what is your post-Fukushima uranium thesis? David Talbot: Post Fukushima, there are broader market issues that are also impacting the uranium equities. However, there is a little bit of danger that if we don’t get a lot of this new build, uranium prices would increase. TER: Lack of development would give rise to the classic market conditions that would ultimately force uranium prices up. DT: Exactly. TER: How does consolidation come into play? DT: I don’t think there is necessarily consolidation for its own sake. I think that there are some companies that are just so undervalued that larger companies that want to get into certain areas may jump at these opportunities. Kazakhstan Now World?s Largest Uranium Miner
2011-11-28 15:08:00 Kazakhstan’s international energy image is now that of one of the world’s rising oil exporters, an extraordinary feat given that, two decades ago its hydrocarbon output was beyond insignificant when the USSR collapsed. The vast Central Asian nation, larger than Western Europe, has now quietly passed another energy milestone. Kazakhstan produces 33 percent of world’s mined uranium, followed by Canada at 18 percent and Australia, with 11 percent of global output. Kazakhstan contains the world’s second-largest uranium reserves, estimated at 1.5 million tons. Until two years ago Kazakhstan was the world’s No. 3 uranium miner, following Australia and Canada. Together the trio is responsible for about 62 percent of the world’s production of mined uranium. According to Kazakhstan’s . . . → Read More: Kazakhstan Now World’s Largest Uranium Miner

Geordie Mark: Coal and Uranium Generate Heat
2011-11-15 21:30:00 The Energy Report: There have been recent takeovers in the coal sector, including the $1 billion (B) takeover of Grande Cache Coal by a Chinese and Japanese business combination. What should investors take away from that deal? Geordie Mark: Investors need to be aware that metallurgical coal is intimately related to the steel market. Our expectations for growth in the steel market drive our expectations for growth in metallurgical coal. It is a positive sign that the market sees the value of such a strategic commodity. We’ve seen a lot of activity this year in the space, highlighted by the $4B takeover of Riversdale by Rio Tinto (RIO:NYSE; RIO, ASX) primarily for Riversdale’s metallurgical coal asset base in Mozambique. . . . → Read More: Geordie Mark: Coal and Uranium Generate Heat

In this exclusive interview with The Energy Report, Geordie discusses uranium demand and brings some specific ideas to the table for investors. Fronteer (FRG): Cooper, gold & uranium
2009-05-28 14:00:00 "Certain commodities are getting hot again; both copper and gold have the wind at their backs in this market, while uranium has also caught our attention," says Brandon Clay.In his Invest with an Edge, he explains, "One such company that should gain from a spike in gold, uranium, and copper is Vancouver-based Fronteer Development Group (NYSE: FRG)."Uranium is a perennially despised substance with a back story in catastrophe, espionage, protests, and nuclear fallout. "But this sometimes-sordid history may prove too weak an objection for the outstanding potential in uranium. The substance may hold enough promise to fuel transportation, lighting, and cell phones for generations. The cost/benefit analysis is changing."Chernobyl was 23 years ago. Difficulties in Characterizing Uranium
2008-11-03 11:00:00 Uranium, a destructive-but-useful heavy radioactive element, can pose a tough challenge when characterized by analytical techniques. America's 104 existing plants account for about 20% of electricity generation. "The US is not the only country in the world considering a major expansion in nuclear power. Uranium Enrichment: The Bushes, The Saudis and The Bomb

What's more, they were given this weapons-grade material by a rogue nation led by a goonish tyrant who gained power only because he was the wastrel son of the former leader. Break out the regime change machinery right away; this evil must be stopped! What's that? No, we're not talking about Iran getting souped-up nukestuff from North Korea. We're talking about George W. With oil and metals up sharply, bonds are worried about inflation and dropping."Dollar weakness is contributing to the commodity rally. The dollar was looking for a while like it was on the verge of a larger rally, but recent weakness has shelved any ideas that the dollar bulls (if there are any) were ready to mount a serious charge. B.C. shuts door on uranium projects
2008-04-26 09:56:00 British Columbia has slapped an official moratorium on uranium exploration and development in the province, reinforcing a long-standing informal ban on the nuclear fuel and dashing the hopes of companies that hoped to take advantage of soaring prices for the commodity. The ban, announced yesterday, makes B.C. a no-go zone for uranium and confirms a moratorium put in place in 1980 by a previous government responding to anti-nuclear sentiment in the province. That moratorium lapsed in 1987 but subsequent governments did not move to update it, as companies focused their exploration campaigns on other metals and because there was a widespread view that uranium production would be unpopular in the province. That changed in recent years, as uranium prices more than doubled and climate change concerns put emissions-free, uranium-fed nuclear power plants in the spotlight. ~ more... ~
