Pay what you want for Battery bar
2010-12-08 19:40:00 A little more color than the usual taskbar icon. I remove the standard XP icon because it's redundant. I just got a new-old laptop, the Dell D430, and, as I usually do when I make a tech change, I've nerded out a little, fixing up the new device like a mother preparing her daughter for school picture day. Besides the usual new computer stuff, I visit forums and try new software. One of the new programs I tried was something called Battery Bar. It's pretty nice. Nothing revolutionary, but it does two things I find useful. One, it tells me the status of my battery (6% degraded- pretty good for a used laptop) and it saves me a few clicks changing power profiles. It doesn't seem to have any negative effects. No performance hit. I only wish that there were an option not to have it startup automatically (yes, I know I can use msconfig). Just a microsecond too late, however, I realized I had accidentally told the program to restart my system. Unsaved documents, half-finished reviews and long strings of tabs disappeared before my eyes. I looked frantically around for some way of stopping it, a big red button perhaps, or a giant STOP lever. Of course, there wasn’t one. To make sure you don’t fall victim to the same problem, I’m going to show you how to stop an unwanted system shutdown or restart. The easiest way is to create an abort shutdown/restart shortcut. To do this, right click on the desktop and select New > Shortcut. In the box that appears, type shutdown.exe -a. What makes it different from other features on Google Maps? The new biking feature plots routes that have been specifically designed with cyclists in mind. 2008-07-25 02:29:00 One of my biggest pieces of advice for anyone building a new home or under going an major renovation is to take as many photos as you can during construction to document hidden utilities. Every house contains hundreds if not thousands of feet of wire, piping and duct work hidden beneath drywall, insulation and framing. It's extremely useful to have photos available of the exact locations of each of these utilities for future reference.I've included a couple of photos that I took during the construction of our new home. In the first picture you can see a mess of red, blue and white PEX pipes all running vertically from the basement to the 2nd floor in a 2x4 interior wall. The blue PEX pipes are domestic cold water home runs from the manifold in the utility room up to the two bathrooms on the second floor.
