Warren Buffett plays down health concern
2012-05-05 23:19:00
OMAHA, Nebraska (Reuters) - Warren Buffett tried to allay fears of Berkshire Hathaway Inc shareholders about the company's future after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and revealed that he recently tried to make one of the biggest acquisitions of his storied career. The question of who will succeed Buffett, 81, as chief executive became more of an imperative after Buffett disclosed the diagnosis on April 17. ...

My Odds-on Favorite to Run Berkshire Hathaway After Warren Buffett Retires
2012-04-19 04:33:00
Warren Buffett is back in the news, and not on the opinion pages about the so-called "Buffett Rule" that would subject high-income earners to additional taxation. Buffett is on Page One because he has prostate cancer. It's Stage One, easily treatable and not life-threatening, The revered Oracle of Omaha says he not only feels great but will keep working his normal schedule, though his travel will be restricted later this summer as he undergoes radiation. So, predictably, it's game-on for Buffett watchers, who are all over the airwaves speculating as to the palace intrigue and about how Ajit Jain clearly will be the next CEO. But Jain is too valuable as Lord Chancellor of Berkshire Hathaway's . . . → Read More: My Odds-on Favorite to Run Berkshire Hathaway After Warren Buffett Retires

Was Warren Buffett Wrong About This Stock?
2012-04-03 19:00:00
Did Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-B) recently commit an error in judgment? It's tough to be critical of one of the world's greatest value investors, but even the best of the best can occasionally get caught up in the hype and forget the disciplined rules that earned them their fortunes in the first place. In question are the so-called dollar stores, specifically Berkshire's potentially overpriced investment in Dollar General (NYSE: DG). To be fair, making a $48 million investment in a $15.6 billion company while the stock traded at a high 18 times earnings didn't seem like a call Buffett would have made. Instead, Berkshire's new manager, Todd Combs, probably made the pick.   Still, . . . → Read More: Was Warren Buffett Wrong About This Stock?
Warren Buffett Just Spent $200 Million on this "Forever" Stock
2012-03-26 16:00:00
Warren Buffett is no fan of short-term trends. Rather than focusing on the flavor of the minute, Buffett instead fixates on trends that will last decades. And then he makes a fortune off of them. Take his investment in Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO), for example. Buffett began buying the soda maker in 1988, eventually acquiring about 7% of the company, thinking it had room to grow in the developing world. He was right. What was a roughly $1 billion investment for about 200 million shares is now worth nearly $14 billion. But it doesn't stop there. The same can be said for his stakes in Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC), American Express (NYSE: AXP), IBM (NYSE: IBM), the . . . → Read More: Warren Buffett Just Spent $200 Million on this "Forever" Stock
Could One of These Stocks be Warren Buffett?s Next Big Purchase?
2012-02-28 16:00:00
"I'm on the prowl." Those four words were tucked in to Warren Buffett's just-released 2011 annual letter to shareholders. And the mad dash begins to figure out what company may be in his sights. Such an exercise might preoccupy the financial media simply for the sake of covering Buffett (which always attracts an audience), but if done right, it can actually lead to uncovering compelling stocks that might be worth buying — even if Buffett doesn't buy himself.   First, it's worth noting that in recent years, he's picked up the pace of major investments: Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-A) (NYSE: BRK-B) completed a $34 billion acquisition of railroad Burlington Northern in early 2010, and then picked . . . → Read More: Could One of These Stocks be Warren Buffett’s Next Big Purchase?
Is The Stock Market Getting A Bit Ahead Of Itself?
2012-01-31 17:10:00
“You are neither right nor wrong just because the crowd disagrees with you. You are right because your data and reasoning are right.” In investing much is said about the folly of following the crowd. It’s voiced in age-old maxims like “The market will do whatever it must to fool the majority,” and Warren Buffett’s advice to “Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful”. It’s measurable in investor sentiment statistics, which clearly show that investors tend to be overly fearful and pessimistic at market lows, not willing to participate when the market turns up, and then overly bullish and confident at market tops, not believing a rally has ended. The current . . . → Read More: Is The Stock Market Getting A Bit Ahead Of Itself?
WARREN BUFFETT AND JAY-Z
2012-01-20 18:30:00
Music mogul, Jay-Z, was in the spotlight this past Wednesday as he re-opened his famous 40/40 Club in New York City. The star-studded evening was graced with a handful of celebs, one of which was probably more noteworthy than the rest--Warren Buffett. The multi-billionaire was caught enjoying the scene and remodeled look of the trendy establishment. Photographers even caught him throwing up Jay-Z's infamous "Roc Diamond." Now we've seen everything!
Three Warren Buffett Quotes that I follow in my Real Estate Business
2011-12-05 14:20:00
No one can argue the fact that Warren Buffett is a great investor.  His track record over multiple decades is just too good to be ignored.  As you know, he prefers to purchase companies or stock in companies.  Nonetheless I look to leverage greatness any where I can in my business. Warren Buffett Just Bought $10.7 BILLION of This Stock
2011-11-15 05:00:00
Has Warren Buffett drawn up a new playbook? The legendary mega-investor who has created vast wealth for shareholders through his investment vehicle, Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-A) (NYSE: BRK-B), has announced that he's been secretly buying shares of one of the world's largest tech stocks: IBM (NYSE: IBM). The move is curious for a pair of reasons. First, he's notoriously averse to technology stocks, because they typically fail to conform to his tried-and-true value approach. IBM's shares don't seem like a huge bargain at 17 times trailing earnings. In contrast, rivals such as Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) appear to possess much more appeal for value investors, as I noted in this article. Then again, IBM is firing on all . . . → Read More: Warren Buffett Just Bought $10.7 BILLION of This Stock

Warren Buffett in the New York Times

Interesting comments from Warren Buffett on the stock market
2008-10-10 23:34:00
I came across this from a colleague and found it interesting.  Just as in Real Estate, generally the smart investors do the opposite of the market.  They buy when the market is low and sell when it is high.  With the stock market showing you its typical volatility we need to revisit our Real Estate investments.  Although Real Estate has been tough the last few years, it is still tangible and a necessity.  A piece of stock is not necessary.  You have to live somewhere.  In addition, Real Estate is very slow moving.  This historical week shows you how crazy the stock market is.  Real estate may drop 10% in 1 year, but the market can drop almost 10% in 1 day!!!!!Do know, I don't have an exact source of this quote.  So please don't take this as 100% factual, but it came from a reliable source.  The bio info can be found on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Bu-ffett face="Arial" size="3">Buffett: Well, the stock market in the short [run]...

Warren Buffett, the ?Oracle of Omaha,? Tells German Audiences That the U.S.
2008-05-27 18:45:00
The United States is already in a recession and it will be longer as well as deeper than many people expect, U.S. investment guru Warren Buffett said in an interview published Saturday in the German magazine Der Spiegel. The United States is “already in recession ? perhaps not in the sense that economists would define it [with two consecutive quarters of declining gross domestic product (GDP)] but the people are already feeling the effects,” Buffett said. “It will be deeper and last longer than many think.” As Money Morning reported back in March, Buffett made a similar pronouncement to U.S. audiences during an interview with the…SHARETHIS.addEntry({- title: "Warren Buffett, the ?Oracle of Omaha,? As oil pricing per barrel hits $100 and gold soars to $860 per ounce on the futures markets, there is a general cause for caution and concern. The news on the first trading day of the year was not a bull's dream.* The Institute for Supply Management's report that its manufacturing index fell to 47.7 percent for December from 50.8 percent in November raised concerns that the economy could be slowing at a quicker pace than some investors had estimated. The reading below 50 signals economic contract...

Germany: Warren Buffett Likes It, And So Do We

Investors have been watching Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK.A, BRK.B) Chairman Warren Buffett?s moves for years to see which investments are going to take off next. Back in October, the Oracle of Omaha?s trip to South Korea encouraged our own bullishness on that country?s stock market. And now Buffett has decided to have a look at Germany. On a recent trip to Europe, Buffett made stops in Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Italy. But his first priority was to meet with leaders of the German mittelstand - the family-owned, medium-sized companies that are the backbone of the German economy. “We would like…SHARETHIS.addEntry({- title: "Germany: Warren Buffett Likes It, And So Do We", url: "http://jutiagroup.com/2008/05/-21/germany-warren-buffett-likes--it-and-so-do-we/" });

Mr. Buffett said. He added that ?lenders and investors who were dumb enough to deal in subprime mortgages should not receive any special help,? but if homeowners were deceived about the terms of an adjustable mortgage, they should be helped. I completely agree, but I'm still curious what happened with his plan to start a financial guarantor company. Originally when AMBAC and MBIA were taking heat for their subprime exposure and writedowns there was talk of Buffett bailing one out or starting his own under the Berkshire Hathaway name.
