Who's visiting the White House?
2009-11-02 15:12:00
By Ariel Alexovich, RedEye Who's visiting the Obama White House? A-listers like Common, John Legend and Scarlett Johansson lent their famous faces to support President Obama during the presidential election. But a new White House initiative to disclose its visitors shows that not all celebrity favors are created equal. The Obama administration has rolled out a list of 110 people who visited the White House between Inauguration Day last January through July 31. Not all the names have been released due to security reasons, so if ScarJo did, in fact, hit up the Oval Office, her name could be released in the next batch of visitor logs. But until then, here's a look at the celebs who we know DID...
Obama today: Documentary travels road to White House

"That actually took real convincing."...

Book Review: Speech-less: Tales Of A White House Survivor By Matt Latimer
2009-09-23 02:37:00
By Loyd Eskildson Finding himself with a law degree and lured by the upbeat themes of the Reagan revolution, Matt heads to Washington, D.C. and snares a series of jobs with powerful figures on Capitol Hill, beginning as an assistant for Senator Spencer Abraham (R, MI) for $25,000 in 1996. Two moves later Matt was with Senator Kyl (R, AZ), and then off to Secretary Rumsfeld's office as a speech writer. En route, Matt drops dirt on several prominent senators (Abraham, E. Dole, McCain) for various reasons  - detached/MIA, dumb, terrifying temper, and briefly comments on Ann Coulter (likes). Latimer was surprised to find Rumsfeld's hands tied on hiring decisions involving relatively low-level and reportedly less than stellar performers - the White House (Karl Rove) apparently had a long reach. Latimer was frustrated for a time by their Machiavellian machinations blocking him from meeting regularly with Sec. Rumsfeld. Latimer reports that he could have stayed with incoming Se...

BIGHOLLYWOOD.com: White House Uses Nat?l Endowment for the Arts To Advance
2009-09-21 20:42:00
Here’s the news Dan was referring to earlier today. The NEA [National Endowment for the Arts] and the White House did encourage a handpicked, pro-Obama arts group to address politically controversial issues under contentious national debate. That fact is irrefutable. This practice has never been the historical role of the NEA. The NEA?s role is to support ...

U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th)Washington, DC ? U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement regarding the President?s upcoming speech, and accompanying classroom activities and lesson plans, to be broadcast into classrooms around the country on September 8th:?It?s important to teach our children about the value of learning and setting goals for their future. However, as a former school board president, I also believe strongly in local control when it comes to creating curriculum and guiding our children in the classroom. That?s why I share the concerns raised by parents in my district about the President?s plans to address our students next week in public classrooms around the country.?There simply hasn?t been any open discussion or transparency of what our kids will be asked to view and study. White House Beer Garden
2009-07-31 02:01:00
Today, the White House garden turned into a beer garden as President Obama hosted Professor Gates and Sgt. James Crowley. Who cares what they talked about and who cares what they drank. Look at what they're sitting on. The outdoor furniture looks like something my mom would have bought from Kmart growing up. I'm talking Kmart before Martha Stewart. In this video from CBSNews you can clearly see what looks like garden furniture behind Sgt. James Crowley. Is that cast iron? Vintage? It looks nice. A lot nicer than the flimsy looking patio set they put on display for the photo op. I love the visual of the bartender walking up to four men sitting in furniture that looks like it...

Amateurs At The White House
2009-05-30 06:00:00
By now I'm sure that you have heard all about our president's trip to London for the G20. Published reports have told us that the staff that made the trip was 500 strong. He took his own chef, specialized O-mobile, 200 secret service agents and several decoy helicopters. No wonder the rest of the world looks at spoiled Americans with disdain. Do you remember when then Democrat candidate Obama chastised the country for being comfortable? His exact words were, "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times...and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK." We can't, but he can. Yes, he can! Yes, he can! Anyway, when you're the President of the United States of America, it is a different story. We can't do those things, but he can. According to David Axelrod, he keeps it so balmy in the Oval Office that he could grow orchids. He can transport all of his presidential toys across the Atlantic for a few meetings. He ...

Mike Allen and Josh Gerstien at The Politico: The Obama administration asked Rick Wagoner, the chairman and CEO of General Motors, to step down and he agreed, a White House official said. On Monday, President Barack Obama is to unveil his plans for the auto industry, including a response to a request for additional funds by GM and Chrysler. The plan is based on recommendations from the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry, headed by the Treasury Department.
