Free Alternative To Windows Live Movie Maker

I like Windows Live Movie Maker. Sure, it's not as good as the original Movie Maker, and has been scaled way down, but it's still good for quick and simple little videos for home or the blog. For podcasts I prefer something a little more robust like Sony Vegas Pro, but I don't always need to do so many fancy edits. The thing I love about Windows Live Movie Maker is that you can render your files in HD natively which is nice because most cheap video cameras film in at least 720P HD these days. Other times Windows Live Movie Maker kind of sucks. For instance, the other day I loaded a 3gp video I took from my Android phone, and Live Move Maker stripped the sound off for no reason. Weird. Some times you want to have multiple audio layers, and you can't with Live Move Maker. Maybe you want to do some cool Chroma keying. Nope, not going to happen in Movie Maker. This is just a demo test of Windows live writer. If this works, it could save me some serious browser hassle (as Firefox eats up too much memory, Google Chrome still has issues with tabs and IE is not fast enough for me while Opera makes the web look ugly). As far as I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop (and, again, I strongly recommend to download it and install it: you still have some time before the beta closes!) one of the minor issues I experienced was with the use of the latest Windows Live Messenger (one of the product included in the Windows Live Essentials suite). As Windows 7 handles taskbar and notification area icons in a different way, the Windows Live Messenger thumbnail preview, due to compatibility requirements, shows two confusing Messenger?s windows. It?s very easy to workaround on this and show the icon in the Notification area. It has a couple nice insert features for photographer (and movie maker). You can now insert a photo album,like the one to the left, but only by uploading the photos directly or using the windows live on-line album feature. The insert video feature is much the same but also has the ability to add video from common on-line services like You Tube. A similar feature for the photo gallery that read from Flickr, photo bucket and/or picasa web albums would have been a winner. Silverlight based MSN Toolbar gets updated

Last week I reviewed MSN Toolbar which is built using Silverlight technology. Today morning I noticed a slight change in the toolbar as it got updated automatically. The toolbar now features local weather forecast which in my opinion is a very nice touch and adds more value to the toolbar. The Windows Live search portion has also been updated. Previously we could only search for Web, Images, Video, News, Maps & Local from the toolbar but now more options have been added so now we can also search for Products, QnA and xRank. You can see your local weather forecast on the right corner of the toolbar. Clicking on weather pops up a nice looking window which shows the forecast in detail. Its been ages since we last heard or read anything from Windows Live team about Windows Live for TV (codename Orbit), let alone any working build for Windows Live for TV. When the project was first announced (I managed to get on the beta program), there was lots of interest specially when Windows Messenger was left out of Vista Media Center. But now if you check out the official team blog of the Windows Live for TV team, you would notice that the last post which they posted was on 10th April 2007 which gives us a clear indication that this service is not going anywhere in fact it probably also means that this Live service like a few others is now officially dead. It?s a real shame that this very promising & one of the most awaited service for Windows Media Center is looking like not coming after all. On the Windows Live Writer Blog today, they announced the availability of the Windows Live Writer CTP (Community technology preview). With this new build comes a lot of new features, which I will discuss in this blog post. So why is this a CTP and not just a normal beta? Well the main reason is that it features a new set of plugin APIs (version 1.1) and the whole Technical Preview is more intended for developers rather than consumers. In pratica si fa il login con il proprio Windows Live ID, si seleziona l?Organizzazione che si vuole aiutare e, ogniqualvolta si fa una ricerca, automaticamente verrà donato 1 penny all?Organizzazione che si è scelto di aiutare. Certo non è tantissimo ma, viste le tantissime ricerche che si fanno ogni giorno e visto anche che è possibile impostare in automatico ?Search And Give? tra i motori di ricerca predefiniti all?interno del proprio browser, con poco si può davvero fare la differenza. The brand new site has just launched and early bird registrations are now open for the 2008 Professional Developers Conference. PDC2008 is an event where the best developers gather to listen to Microsoft disclose details on its future platform.
