Boxed wine: Garbage in, Garbage out
2011-08-08 23:13:00 I’m rooting for boxed wine. Really. I want good wine in boxes. I don’t mean that Lafite or DRC should start putting super high end wines in the bag-in-a-box format, but I do want boxed wine that I actually would want to drink. Eric Asimov wrote column in the New York Times last week about boxed wine. It’s...

A Summer Trip to Italy, Thanks to DaVinci Wine
2011-06-24 15:10:00 The last time I traveled to Italy, I had just graduated from college. I was 22, wide-eyed, and energetic about the world and all it had to offer. I had yet to met He Sips (my husband, who co-writes this blog) and my son, Noah, who would arrive more than 10 years later. I also knew very little about wine (that love would begin to grow a few months later when I moved to California).I dreamed about Italy often--ever since growing up in a part-Sicilian family, ever since Latin class in high school, ever since my younger sister moved there to study the language and the culture. I felt like I knew the place and people, even before I set foot on...

Chicago: Second City of Wine?
2011-06-14 03:11:00 Chicago has long been known as the Second City. Does that apply to wine as well? This article from the Wall Street Journal suggests that Chicago is indeed the country's 2nd most important wine city (following New York.)In this piece, Lettie Teague describes Chicago's wine scene as "vibrant" with many options for dining, retail shops, and "funky" wine bars. Here at He Sips/She Sips, we certainly agree that Chicago has an amazing wine scene. What got us thinking though, were the specific examples she used. Binny's, Glunz House of Fine Wines, Alinea, and Webster Wine Bar were all mentioned, as well as a few other places.Alinea is amazing (if you can afford it); Webster Wine bar is a nice place...
