Samsung’s 82-inch LED-backlit LCDThere’s some sort of display exposition happening in Los Angeles right now, where Samsung showed off an 82-inch LED-backlit ultra high-definition LCD. Yes, that’s it up there; it’s magnificent. The monitor, no surprise, has that 120Hz thing going on. The rest is trade-pub banter that bores everyone. (Via CrunchGear.)

Meridian's Ferrari-branded F80 home entertainment system priced at $2,995
2008-05-18 01:38:00
Meridian's Ferrari -branded F80 home entertainment system priced at $2,995 We fully expected that Ferrari logo and lacquered paint job to add a stuff premium to Meridian's F80, but this is undeniably insane. The 'transportable home entertainment system,' which has been hovering about since last March, is at long last ready to be purchased. Finding prospective buyers, however, will likely be challenging. The unit is now available in silver, yellow, white, black and the obligatory red, and each one will set you back a dumbfounding $2,995. We're thinking the unit itself would go for around three bills sans branding, but apparently Italian ponies aren't cheap.(Via Engadget.)

Sarotech intro’s the Hardbox, a book-style external hard drive with LEDâ€
2008-05-14 04:27:00
Sarotech intro’s the Hard box, a book-style external hard drive with LED’sFor those looking to give their external hard drive a little camouflage within their home office, the Hardbox may be just what you need. We do mean it though when we say little, because while the drive itself has the appearance of a book, it still has two external LED lights. Though we cannot say for sure, it seems those LED’s would most likely draw some attention in the midst of those regular books on your shelf. The drive is being offered up from Sarotech and has support for 3.5-inch SATA I or II hard drives with support for up to 1GB. The Hardbox comes with a built-in power supply and ships with ‘powerful backup software.’ It offers up a USB connection, but seems to be missing one important item, a fan. However according to Sarotech the drive has an ‘advanced aluminum’ case that keeps the drive operating at a cool temperature. Sadly the Hardbox is currently just available in the Korean market an...

Sanyo portable projectors with auto-change air filters
2008-05-14 04:27:00
Sanyo portable projectors with auto-change air filtersSanyo has announced their latest portable projectors, the LP-XC55 and LP-XC50, both weighing just 4.2kg but still with 1,024 x 768 UXGA, WXGA or SXGA resolution. The company has also fitted its new Active Maintenance Filter (AMS) system, which uses a replaceable air filter cartridge rather than relying on users cleaning out the vents themselves. While the LP-XC50 has 2,600 lumens brightness, the XC55 manages 3,100 lumens.Since a projector that’s easy for you to carry is also easy for a thief to make off with, Sanyo have fitted an extra-wide security bar - 11mm, in fact - around which you can loop a steel cable. A single 7W speaker handles sound, and picture size can range from 40 to 300 inches with a 450:1 contrast ratio. Connections include DVI-I, D-sub, S-Video, RCA and mini-jacks for audio input.Personally, I’m wary of the AMS system. Sanyo’s press release might be bold in describing its ability to auto-advance to t...

Socket SoMo 650-M
2008-05-09 01:15:00
Socket SoMo 650-MStrangely enough, there seems to be a market for PDAs in this day and age, considering how most smartphones have already taken over the PDA's role. The Socket SoMo 650-M targets the service industry with a rather retro-looking form factor, but I've always been told not to judge a book by its cover. Intel 624MHz processorWindows Mobile 5.0 (definitely retro)WiFi and Bluetooth connectivitySD and CF memory card slotOptional barcode scannerIf you're looking for a plain old PDA, then the SoMo 650-M might be a potential candidate, assuming you're willing to swallow the £450 price. Tivoli Audio NetWorks Shipping in June
2008-05-09 01:15:00
Tivoli Audio NetWorks Shipping in June Nearly a year ago, Tivoli announced the the NetWorks, a free-standing device designed to let you tune into and stream Web radio independent of a PC. It didn't quite happen. But today, Tivoli CEO Tom DeVesto announced that the NetWorks is finally going into production and will be shipping within a few weeks. The price? $600, which DeVesto defended by claiming terrific audio fidelity. More details after the jump. The NetWorks we saw today looks quite different than the prototype device shown last year, but it definitely looks like a Tivoli product, with a wood case and simple, elegant design. It's a standalone unit but can be expanded with a CD player, a subwoofer, or another speaker, for surround sound. It connects to the Web via Wi-Fi or Ethernet and can also be used with your other music sources: there's a USB port for flash players as well as an audio jack for headsets or other players--such as iPods, since the NetWorks...

2008-05-09 01:15:00
Canon's Printer -in-a-Bucket Selphy CP770 is One For The Kids [Printers ]Canon's new dye-sublimation photo printer is a departure from the boring old box designs: it's basically a bucket, and is aimed at kids. The bucket part unclips, and is supposed to store wires and accessories rather than sand and a collection of worms. The printer itself is designed for easy operation, with big buttons, a 2.5-inch TFT and accepting all varieties of SD card, MMC and MemoryStick and xD too.Printing is at 300 x 300 dpi color with 256 hues per color, and up to borderless postcard-size photos—an L-size (4.7 x 3.5-inch) printout takes around 43 seconds. The printer has an option to recognize faces in the imagery and optimize the print and background around them, and even does automatic red-eye correction. Connectivity is USB and IR, with support for the direct camera connection PictBridge, and there's also an optional battery pack. When we were kids we just used our Polaroids for instant photos, b...

Egg Speaker Charger Concept
2008-05-09 01:13:00
Egg Speaker Charger Concept Eggs are one of my favorite foods - there is nothing quite like a couple soft boiled eggs to begin the day. Since they're also associated with new life, it makes perfect sense for this Egg concept device to function as a pair of satellite speakers when 'cracked' open, with its base functioning as a subwoofer. In addition, the base will also double up as a dock for a compatible MP3 player, charging your device through induction. Designed by Nathan Gabriele, I'm just curious to know why this design has not been given the green light yet to be manufactured. It'll surely sell a bunch, and best of all is there is no high cholesterol to worry about. (Via UberGizmo, the Gadgets News Blog.)

Pioneer DVH-P530 hits Japan Japanese woke up this morning to find that they will be able to enjoy the Pioneer DVH-P530 after exchanging this thing called money for it. It is an in-car DVD and CD player, so it would be nice to have a LCD display in your car if you want to take full advantage of it. Not only is it compatible with traditional media formats such as MP3, WMA, and AAC, it also does DivX as well for your portable video needs. Best hook this up with a decent audio system of your choice, I say.(Via UberGizmo, the Gadgets News Blog.)
