Fujitsu announces it’s own iMac-like PC
2008-04-23 00:26:00
Fujitsu announces it’s own iMac-like PCThey say that an imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But in this case I think that this imitation should indeed become the default option for all low/medium-end desktop computers.Taking a page from Apple’s iMac, this computer includes everything you’d expect to find in a bulky box besides (or underneath) the monitor, inside the monitor itself. Here are the machine’s specifications:this 16’ (1366x768 ) wide PC features an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T8100 (2.1GHz) with 2GB of RAM (Max 4GB), 250GB of SATA HDD, an Intel X3100 graphic chipset, Wifi B/G, and Bluetooth. It’s not an ideal machine for games since it does not include a very powerful graphics card. It is however ideal for company receptions, where looks matter, or for people who want a simple Windows computer but don’t want to deal with the wire-clutter that comes with it.(Via Forever Geek.)

D-Link's MediaLounge PC-on-TV DPG-1200 now shipping Remember that DPG-1200 that got overshadowed by the outpouring of other media streamers landing at CES? Welp, D-Link has just announced that its PC-on-TV Player is finally shipping to eager customers and will soon be channeling web-based content directly to living room (or bathroom, kitchen, garage, underground bomb shelter, etc.) televisions for the marginally respectable price of $239.99. For those in dire need of a refresher, this MediaLounge device links up to your TV via VGA / component / composite and connects to your PC via WiFi; the bundled remote can then control the on-screen action, bringing YouTube, Google Video, Veoh Networks, etc. material from the intarwebz straight to your set. Whether or not the convenience is worth the cost, however, is totally your call.(Via Engadget.)

New SOLo table does more than just a normal table
2008-04-22 06:27:00
New SOLo table does more than just a normal tableNormal ly, tables don’t do much, they just sit there and let you work on it or put stuff on it. However, this new table from SOLo, by Intelligent Forms is not just your average table, it is solar powered which means you can run or charge your gadgets while using them on the table. This really is a great idea and if the price can stay relatively inexpensive, it is sure to be very popular, especially since people are trying to become more energy efficient. Reportedly, if you leave it for a year in a ‘typical outdoor setting,’ it has enough juice to charge your typical cellphone about 6,800 times, or a laptop 168 times. It also comes with a few sockets to charge whatever gadget you may have, including USB, 12V and your standard 3-pin plug. Now, you might be asking how could you leave the table in a ‘typical outdoor setting,’ without something getting messed up from rain, snow, etc., well the neat thing is that the whole device i...

ION VCR 2 PC - USB VHS-Ripping Device
2008-04-21 15:37:00
ION VCR 2 PC - USB VHS-Ripping Device ION Audio has made a name for itself with vinyl and cassette owners alike as it is behind the USB turntable and USB cassette archiver. So, it doesn't take long for anyone to figure out that the company has also set its eyes on the VHS digitalization market. ION Audio VCR 2 PC may look like an ordinary VCR at first sight, but soon you will notice a USB 2.0 interface that allows you to hook it up to a PC. In essence, it's pretty much a VHS equipped with a USB video capture. A composite connection is adjacent to the USB for camcorders, and RCA output is on the back to playback previews on a TV. SCART output is available in the PAL version. The included Muvee AutoProducer 6.0 does all hard work of converting your VHS stacks into digital format whether it be H.264 for iPod/PSP or MPEG-2 for DVD authoring. There's no info whether or not the $249 ION VCR 2 PC will defeat the Macovision VHS copy protection, but it is unlikely that it can.(Via ...

New Satellite Phone Runs Windows Mobile, Has No Visible Antenna
2008-04-20 19:16:00
New Satellite Phone Runs Windows Mobile , Has No Visible Antenna The dreamers, they have their dreams. One of the big dreams for 2009-10, it seems, is new, hybrid satellite/cellular phones that work everywhere, but don't look like Cro-Magnon rock-hewing tools. MSV's Lost-style handset is supposedly coming in 2010, but it may be beaten to market by Elektrobit's sleek Windows Mobile satellite phone, which is supposedly arriving in 2009 and looks like a Motorola Q.The most striking feature of the Elektrobit device is its antenna: it doesn't seem to have one. This is a slim, light (4.7 x 2.5 x .8' HWD) phone that runs on HSDPA high-speed cellular networks and uses Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional (yes, it has a touch screen) but also happens to connect to an upcoming satellite network being launched next year by Terrestar across North America. Or that's the plan, at least: this is a reference design, and the satellites aren't up in the air yet.Other features of this concep...
MSI Wind Notebook To Come In 8.9 and 10-Inch Flavors
2008-04-20 19:16:00
MSI Wind Notebook To Come In 8.9 and 10-Inch Flavors MSI has dropped some new info on its contender to the Eee-PC throne, the Wind Notebook, which we first peeked at in March. The roughly 2.2 lb UMPC will come with either an 8.9 inch or 10 inch LCD display sporting a 1024 x 600 resolution. MSI says the Wind will feature a 2.5-inch HDD with an 80 GB capacity and have a purported 7 hours of battery life — compare that with the Eee PC's 20 GBs and puny two-hour battery.Other reported specs include a choice of processors ranging from 1.0GHZ to 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM and a Windows XP operating system. The laptop will get a European release in June. Prices are expected to be between $471 - $1100, depending on the options chosen. No word on a U.S. release yet. (Via Gizmodo: Umpc.)

BenQ MID - more info coming out of the woodwork
2008-04-19 03:53:00
BenQ MID - more info coming out of the woodworkThe more specs we get the more I think this might be an Asus Eee shrunken down to fit in an MID package. It has an 800 MHz Silverthorne processor, Poulsbo chipset, half a gig of RAM, and a 4GB SSD.For connectivity you get your choice of HSDPA, WiFi in 802.11 b/g varieties, and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. This MID will obey your every command, almost literally, it will as long as it recognizes the command. There is also an option for GPS so you can knock that extra device out of your life with this thing. It uses BenQ’s G-Sensor for direct touch and free movement on the screen. Plus it looks like it has a custom MID OS, not some dumbed down version of Windows, which is actually kind of nice because it makes it easier to do the things that it’s actually convenient to do on these devices.(Via SlashGear.)

The device is an integrated PMP running Windows CE, is capable of producing a 640 x 480 projection, has an embedded 3.5-inch LCD display, and utilizes an SD slot for additional storage. There's no word on pricing -- or if this is going to make it onto our shores anytime soon -- though we're pretty sure a crafty importer can probably get one of these into your hands.(Via Engadget.)

Dell's 22-inch Crystal LCD monitor gets reviewed, panned
2008-04-19 03:46:00
Dell's 22-inch Crystal LCD monitor gets reviewed, pannedIt seems as if Dell reckoned that the Crystal's boyish good looks would be enough to push it into the hands of style-obsessed nationals everywhere, as a scalding review over at Maximum PC asserts that little else beyond that is actually going for it. Said to have exhibited 'absurd glare, low grayscale range and fussy touch-buttons' the 22-inch stunner frustrated critics beyond the point of forgiveness. More specifically, the glare was said to be so bad while watching dark scenes in a film that it 'destroyed the picture.' To its credit, it did manage to present ultra-vivid colors and an accurate dynamic contrast, but those two bright spots were far from being enough to overcome the negatives. Needless to say, the unit did well to fetch the 5 out of 10 score that was bestowed upon it, and based upon what we're hearing, we'd highly recommend checking one of these out in person before buying this thing on appearances alone....

Scroll Concept from 13 Tech Design
2008-04-17 19:43:00
Scroll Concept from 13 Tech Design 13 Tech Design has come up with a Scroll concept device which crams in a fair bit of impressive features, including a touch screen-based cell phone, a 10 megapixel camera and a full HD camcorder for you to record all your favorite memories. Heck, it will even feature WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, with a full-powered computer that is capable of running Windows Vista or XP. Call me skeptical, but how are you going to include the processor, memory and storage space inside such a tiny device? And as for the display, it looks too tempting to not puncture it with one's finger or pen, which will lead to a massive heartbreak for the owner after forking out a massive sum for it. Zalman ZM-M2020W Trimon 3D Monitor Reviewed

Zalman ZM-M2020W Trimon 3D Monitor ReviewedOur friends at Trusted Reviews got their hands on the Zalman ZM-M2020W Trimon 3D Monitor recently, and here is their impression of it.Zalman has proved that nVidia's investment in 3D display technology was a sound one. This screen really does produce a truly immersive 3D environment in which to play your games. In fact everyone in the office was surprised at how good the 3D effect was on the ZM-M2020D. Unfortunately the excessively glossy coating on this screen doesn't just make it impossible to recommend for general Windows use, but it also severely affects the 3D aspect, since if you have the slightest hint of ambient light in your room, you're constantly distracted by the reflection of your own face and everything behind you.It will retail for approximately £411.25 after taxes in the UK, making this one of the more expensive monitors to own. Working people ought to avoid this as it doesn't add any value to your job, but gamers might...

m.imove 3218 and m.imove 4228MyGuide seems to be revamping their product line these days. After M.i.motion3318, M.i.motion4328 and M.i.more4338, the two new additions to their entry level GPS navigation systems are the m.imove 3218 and m.imove 4228. m.imove 3218 is the smaller of the two with a 3.5″ screen. m.imove 4228 boasts a 4.3″ screen and a stronger 1450mAh battery as opposed to 1050mAh. The navigation software is the latest MyGuide 8.0 and in addition to advanced 3D renderings it also can warn the user when above the posted speed limit. ViewSonic tries real hard with $499 PJ513DB projector
2008-04-17 00:50:00
ViewSonic tries real hard with $499 PJ513DB projector We applaud the effort, we really do, but even $499 for a projector touting a lowly 800 x 600 native resolution, 2,000:1 contrast ratio and 2,200 lumens is a tad steep in our eyes. Then again, you'll likely find ViewSonic's 5-pound PJ513DB marginally cheaper on the street, and of course, it's quite obvious the outfit was aiming this one at those deep-pocketed boardroom bigwigs and district superintendents. Nevertheless, this DLP PJ promises to toss up a visible image even in well-lit rooms, and you'll find composite / S-Video / component inputs 'round back to go along with the VGA in / out ports and the audio input. Knock off another Benjamin or up that resolution a hair, and maybe then we'll talk.(Via Engadget.)

Archos PMP to Have GPS
2008-04-17 00:50:00
Archos PMP to Have GPSFrench PMP manufacturer Archos is up to something big next week, April 23. According to T3, new PMPs from the company will feature GPS. Archos’s plan is to ‘direct you to your destination of choice in Europe, the USA or even China, and you can then pass the media player to the back of the car to let the kids entertain themselves with hours of movies, music and internet.’ This could be the next generation (Gen-6) Archos we’ve been waiting for. Gen-5 was announced last September, which was over 6 months ago. Archos 606 and 706 are way overdue. To tell the truth, we’d wait a little while longer for an Archos PMP with WiFi, GPS and 3G.(Via PMP Today.)

GamePark's GP2X F-200 handheld gets reviewed
2008-04-17 00:49:00
GamePark's GP2X F-200 handheld gets reviewedWe know, most of you even remotely interested in the F-200 either already own one (and you're playing it right now, aren't you? Don't lie.) or are waiting intently for the Pandora. Nevertheless, the cats over at Ars Technica managed to wrap their paws around the GP2X F-200 and give it the full review treatment -- needless to say, impressions were (fairly) positive. Immediately recognized as a 'hybrid of Sony's PSP and the Nintendo DS,' the gaming handheld possessed a bright, clear LCD, somewhat 'tinny' speakers and the ability to chew through batteries without shame. Still, aside from a few minor niggles, the critics found it to be 'well worth the $170 price tag for the emulation capabilities alone.' Hit up the read link for the entire review, but don't even bother if you're looking for excuses to hold off.(Via Engadget.)

Silver Seal Washable Keyboard

Silver Seal Washable Keyboard Silver isn't only great for killing werewolves and vampires, they're also good for killing germs. Seal Shield has released a new washable, anti-microbial keyboard that supposedly kills contaminants with its silver ions. Being dishwasher-safe, it is a snap disinfecting your keyboard with scalding hot water and soap if you're so paranoid about catching the bug from sick colleagues who have used your keyboard before. The Silver Seal washable keyboard retails for $69.99 and is truly a purchase for the paranoid - I don't think ordinary Tom, Dick and Harrys will be that fearful of catching a bug from the keyboard. HP and Dreamworks Announce 30-bit Color Display
2008-04-16 16:52:00
HP and Dreamworks Announce 30-bit Color Display (not actual display)HP and DreamWorks announced that they have been ‘working together’ on a 30-bit color display that will be built for 25% of the cost of equivalent displays in this space. I used the quotes up there because it looks to me like the DreamWorks name is there for marketing purposes -'that’s just my assumption.'Most LCD displays on the market can display up to 16.7 million colors. That number comes from the combination of 256-levels of red, green and blue (16.7M = 256x256x256 = 24-bit). While most of us tolerate the occasional color bending on dark gradients, ‘workstation’ displays have to be better than that, and some can display one billion colors (30-bit = 10-bit of red, green, blue). Two more bits doesn’t seem like a lot, but now we would have 1024-levels of R,G,B - this makes color gradients much, much better.Don’t dream about having one of these just yet. For one, consumer graphics cards can’t displa...
