How important is Blog Design?
2006-12-05 19:21:02 Sobha Menon of the Economic Times has written a good article on how Desi gn of a blog is as important as the content. Some of my opinions have also been quoted in her article. Some one truly said that a blog’s design and content are like the length and breadth of a rectangle. One without the other won’t give you an area (usability). This kicked me hard cauze BotHack is so plain. Any bright suggestions to revamp the blog, is welcome More About: Blog , Port , Sign
How to get access to various FTP sites
2006-12-02 07:19:01 You all know or should know that there are SEVERAL ways to do something, they all might be right.I’m going to show you the most simple but most rewarding also (in my opinion) way to get access to ftps. You start with downloading DC++ from google. For all of you who don’t know what DC++ is then it is a p2p software to share files. It’s not like Kazaa or something so you just don’t search, you have to enter “hubs” (it’s like rooms kind of) and search for the files in there. Every hub has got its own rules, for example you must share atleast 10GB to enter it or something. But there are also hubs with no share limit so you can enter them right away, but they aren’t really the best. I would recommend to get maybe 50GB share or something because then you can enter MOST of the hubs. The better hubs you enter the higher is the chance that you will find password. Right when you’ve downloaded DC++ and made all the configurations then enter ... More About: How To , Site , Sites , Vari , Access
Make your own web browser

Making a web browser is so simple. It consists of only a few lines of code they are so easy to make use. Let’s start off with starting a new Visual Basic project, a standard exe.Add the following controls onto your form: 5 command buttons 1 web browser 1 text box Now what’s left to do is put all the code into the commands, as you can see the text box is going to be where you put all of the website urls you want to visit, you could also use a combo box for this which is fine. The command buttons will do different things; the go button is used to go to the website you enter. As you can see we have got a back button, a forward button, a refresh button a stop button, these are all the basic commands, you can add more as you get more comfortable with the commands. We can now add the code into the commands then y... Cryptography
2006-12-02 07:19:01 Solving cryptic puzzles can be a lot of fun, provided you know the basics of Crypt o graphy. So here is a quick overview of basics of Cryptography - All in one. The infamous Caesar Cipher (shift, ROT) Ok, for all you cryptographers-in-the-making (and everyone else, for that matter), I have decided to give simple, yet educational explanations of the basics of cryptography. One of the very first methods of cryptography was the Caesar Cipher, also known as “shift” or “ROT” (rotate). The Caesar cipher is quite simple: you shift all of the letters of the alphabet down a certain number of spaces. So, if you want a rotation of 1, here’s what you’d use (the upper letters are the normal alphabet, and the lower letters are what you replace them with): ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ BCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZA So the message: The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs would read Uif rvjdl cspxo gpy kvnqfe pwfs uif mbaz epht But, just to make this harder, man... Cloning your mobile phone
2006-11-23 07:06:01 The objective here is to have two fully functioning mobile phones while only paying one bill. You’ll need two cell phones, one with service and another without. Now the first step is to find the secret menu on your cell. www.cellphonehacks.com is one of the best places to find that out, just search for your model number and check out some of the hacks. After you enter in the secret number and enter the secret menu on the serviced phone, look for your phones ESN. ESN (Electronic Serial Number) - Each cellular phone is assigned a unique ESN, which is automatically transmitted to the cellular tower station every time a cellular call is placed. The Mobi le Telephone Switching Office validates the ESN with each call. Usually it says serial number right on it so its simple to find. After that write the serial number down along with your phone number and area code. Next on the phone that does not have service do the same exact steps to get to the secret menu and then go to the serial ... More About: Phone , Mobile Phone , Your

ReviewMe - New age propaganda
2006-11-13 18:51:02 ReviewMe is not only a new ads service but also an interesting ad concept. The idea is fabulous -> you have advertisers and you have bloggers. Why not get the bloggers to write about the product instead of just putting irrelevant ads on their site sidebar? At ReviewMe once you register you can order reviews from other registered blogs and you can submit your blog where you earn a lot of money by getting some review orders. Once you submit your blog it goes through a screening process before it gets accepted. During the screening process your blog’s value is decided. In simple words how much is your blog worth for one order. You may end up receiving $30 to $250 per review. In the ReviewMe system, advertisers choose which blogs review them. So basically, sit back, and let the review offers come to you. If you want to pitch your product to a niche group of users, the best way is to search for blogs in that category and order a review out of a popular blog. Imagine fo... 2006-11-10 06:42:02 The new interface of Gmail is kinda sleek I would say. The gtalk integration had to pip in and the message box is now fixed length, even though the blue bar with the rss snippets is flexible width. A sleek menu bar with functions is also a nice touch to the whole compose mail funda Click on screen shot to enlarge it. (Oh! The message is of a hoaxed job offer from Raymond India. Orkut GTalk integration
2006-11-09 12:36:01 Now this was expected, with people (espl. student community) spending most part of their internet time refreshing their orkut homepage waiting for scraps to trickle so that they can go reply back. I would say this is a fantastic move by Google. By integrating orkut to gtalk not only are they making lives of bored souls more easier and interesting but also are pitching their not so successful product to the millions of users of Orkut . As far as the integration goes, its simple, quick and effective. Geocities - A playground for phishing
2006-11-09 12:36:01 For the past few days, Geocities proved to be the most suitable playground for script kiddies and phishers. With many social engineering geocities websites popping here and there luring people to part with their user ids and passwords, it has not been a good ride for geocities. Geocities is doing its best to pull down such attempts, but till now its all been futile. this was clearly visible when not one but three different geocities websites sported the yahoo login page. The websites became an instant hit with the college going students as the technologically challenged students (average internet user) thought this was an amazing prank to play on their co students. Little do they know the dangerous involved in this. One of my not so good friends apparently thought it was funny to send me to those fake yahoo login pages. But one look at the URL told me what I needed to know. I hadn’t been to geocities for ages and so it was a nice touch to say “To look into the page pleas... VOX - A new Blogging platform
2006-11-08 12:33:01 Vox is the new free blogging platform which graduated recently from the Six Apart Lab. At first sight I knew it lived up to the Six Apart reputation. Why does VOX score? Simply for its simplicity and features. Imagine blogger + livejournal + wordpress + flickr + orkut/myspace + youtube + amazon + listables + odeo + a lot more services bundled in an uncluttered manner for a layman to use and have fun with. The idea is definitely incredible. Vox is for the average internet surfer who wants to enjoy the world of blogging without having to meddle with the CSS/HTML/JAVA or worrying about service integrations and those two line javascripts that one has to include in their sidebar to get those effects. Vox has a beautiful collection of templates and the template customization is ajaxed with a minimal hand full of options such as on the fly selection of the number of columns, the arrangement of the same and the tagline for your blog. The best feature I liked was a page in the dashboard whi... More About: Blogging , Blog , Plat , Form , Blogg
Gmail for mobile devices
2006-11-05 12:30:01 Google launched a new version of Gmail Mobile (Java application) which is up to five times faster in access and use, thanks to automatic pre-fetching of messages and drastically reduced clicks and scrolling to access email. If you go to gmail.com/app, on your Java-enable mobile phone and download the small application, you’ll be able to use Gmail. Attachments, including files and photos are viewable and automatically resized to fit the user’s phone. It’s a small download, but one that might make you look at email on your phone in a different way — maybe like Gmail did for email when that first appeared. Download it now and decide for yourself! You should check the requirements, the most important being J2ME (Java) MIDP2. Gmail Mobile is also available from your browser if you go to gmail.com (or m.gmail.com) on your mobile phone, but you won’t get these features. You can get all this info if you just visit gmail.com homepage where the sidebar contains t... More About: Mail , Devices , Device

Google Wordmasters Challenge - Interesting theories?
2006-11-05 12:30:01 With Google India failing to announce the results of the Google Word masters Challenge , many bloggers have expressed their frustration on the callousness of Google India. But a few of them took this as an opportunity to let their creative juices flow. One of them came up with an interesting theory (Quoted from the blog.outer-court forum): “this was NOT a wordmasters challenge, this was an effort to build a stronger parallel corpus for machine translation of the indian languages by examining usage of english terms and variants as they interpreted by humans ? this is a subtle form of annotation of a corpus for insertion into a model. this is not a new approach, but the fact that they did not reveal intentions is disturbing.” More About: Interesting , Inter

Gmail hacks: Multiple signatures/Attatchment icons/File spac
2006-11-02 00:24:01 Using this Greasemonkey script you can switch your Gmail signature based on the From address you select. It simply Combines choosing ?From: address? and signature into 1 action. Gmail with different attachment icons is another Greasemonkey script which lets you add attachment icons to your Gmail account (Well at least most of them). Install Greasemonkey in your firefox extension before trying out the above two scripts. I am not sure how useful these two hacks are and how imaginative people can be. But hey, just another thing to have fun with for the techies. Gmail File Space (gspace), a FireFox extension allows you to use your Gmail Space (2.5 GB and growing) for file storage. It acts as a remote machine. You can transfer files between your hard drive and gmail. This is similar to “Gmail Drive” on windows platform. Google Talk has offline messages
2006-11-02 00:24:01 One of the major features why I stuck to Yahoo IM Messenger all these days was the offline messages that they offered. And now GTalk has got them too. This feature was introduced today morning. Don’t worry you don’t have to download any extra plugin or a new gTalk. Just login to your gTalk and use it the normal way (Save this time you can even open up an identity who is offline and send him a quick message :)) gTalk however has a long way to go if it has to compete with Yahoo IM Messenger or AOL. Google Wordmasters Challenge - Where are the Results?
2006-11-02 00:24:01 It is November 1st and there is still no news about the Google Word masters Challenge Results . The contest simultaneously conducted at 10 cities in India on September 30th, 2006, by Google India, saw over 3,000 participants fighting it out to be one of the top ten creative talents that google were hunting for. It?s been more than a month since the contest and there has been no sign of the results. The official form that everyone received during the event says the results would be out by 30th of October, which as we all know has passed two days back. I have got quite a few mails from contestants who have been checking their e-mail boxes every hour from 30th of October. This has been a huge let down by the Google guys. So the guys at Google India I want you to listen to me and listen me good: I am not saying you guys suck, I am not saying you guys have to always be promt. All I am saying is: 1) when you can afford to email every participant and even SMS them a day before the event, you... More About: Here

BenQ Black Box - Defining the future
2006-10-31 12:18:01 BenQ - Siemens have come up with a sleak handset which would define the future of mobile technology. The handset is basically a huge screen - thats all. One huge screen which transforms to your needs. In simple words a touch screen which would sport the look of the function you would require to do. The above pics show some of the available functions. 1) A calculator 2) FM radio (I like the iPod kinda tuner and volume control) 3) The normal cellphone 4) A game where you find a dolphin escaping a bath tub hole… or something to that effect. This design won the best design award in a Japanese Design contest. Its a pity that BenQ is bankrupt and they cant take this further. I hope Apple takes a cue and goes ahead with such designs. Firefox 2.0 is out!
More articles from this author:2006-10-30 12:15:01 After months of waiting, it’s finally here! Fire fox 2.0 - get it now As for changes, at first glance it’s got a whole new glossier (web 2.0-ish?) look. The main change that I noticed over the previous version is that many features like the tab manager and session restore which were available as extensions earlier are now defaault items. There is a new phishing filter and the new version claims to provide better security and safer browsing. Another thing I noticed (and was thankful for) was that everything is now more polished, with text not going beyond the box width and buttons not overlapping on one another in options screens. An excellent addon is the spell checker, that checks spelling rel time as you type into any text box - real neat! Google and Yahoo searches in the search box come with a Suggest option and there is now a search engine manager. Unlike other reports that I’ve seen elsewhere, I don’t think there’s any big change in the startup tim... More About: Firefox 2 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 |
